E-40 will release his 23rd and 24th albums — The D-Boy Diary 1 & 2 — later this year, so it’s fair to say he knows how to stay relevant without sacrificing his art. Just take his latest single “Slappin,” which sees 40 Water kicking his slanguage alongside two of rap’s hottest rookies, Nef The Pharaoh and D.R.A.M., over some classic hyphy production. With David Camarena in the director’s chair, the trio get the place jumping in the song’s accompanying video.
