Drake signs with Young Money/Cash Money/Universal/Motown Records
Posted by Mikey Fresh under videos[23] Comments
MikeyFresh: via Info’s twitter: yay! there will be globe on the back of drake’s CD instead of an “A” with a swirly thing next to it! awesomeness!
Missinfo: I’m shocked that ppl on twitter actually had to ask if I was being sarcastic. Really?
More details from MTVNews after the jump
“Mixtapes are a movement. For some, giving away music could mean much more than trying to sell their tunes — but Drake played the game right. He started giving away his mixtape So Far Gone earlier this year, and the word of mouth spread with fans, his peers and record-company executives: a recent New York concert found [Warner Music exec] Lyor Cohen in the crowd, standing among screaming fans, along with Kanye West and Talib Kweli.
“Well, the wait is over: After weeks of speculation, Drake has chosen to go with the home team and sign with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Records, according to a source close to the situation. The deal breaks down as a joint venture between Young Money and Cash Money, with Universal Republic distributing. Drake’s management was adamant that he should be viewed as an independent artist, although Universal will distribute the project.
“Today is a definitely a comfortable day for me, having my team now that’s been in place for a couple of years. It’s just a great day,” Drake told MTV News recently in New York. “It’s something new, but it feels familiar.”

This guys is mad overrated- he’s sound like a cross-breed of Trey Songz & Lil Wayne, I can’t tell difference when i’m playing there records, can’t we get artist with longevity? can we get an Artist with a Realistic Background? Kanye Carcrash, 50ty Shot, Oh Drake Was Degrassi Like WTF? Hiphop is so desperate!

I’m happy for him, although I thought he’d do something trendsetting when he signed instead of the traditional deal that looks like a DOS prompt

All that hype and speculation he caused about where he would sign and he ends up going to the most obvious choice. I tell you, if there’s one thing this guys got goin for him, its a top notch marketing team that’s getting him all this hype.

lol. and that’s where it all lies. it’s not even the marketing. it’s his manager and the girls. i mean i like him. i actually do. i think he’s alright/good, but he’s not the greatest or whatever, revolutionary even. queen la was giving him props on this smooth transitions…well anyone can do what aubrey is doing. infact he’s been dipping into the pot of some other people, and that’s fact. like artists in general though, so that’s not a crime. it’s his manager and the people around him. the kid hustles hard. real real real real hard, because he wanted it, and now he got it. i was hoping he wouldn’t sign with obviously one of his main/supportive connections, but that wouldn’t be smart business either. atleast he got his start. tdot standup. now lets get famous a record deal with universal. lol.

Thats the stupidest thing he could of done, now he’s gonna be looked @ as Weezy’s artist and in Weezy’s shadow instead of shining independantly. I think he’s too talented to be under A Big Name artist, He should of carved out his own niche in the game and not add on to lil waynes. He could of stayed affiliated with wayne w/o signing under him, he’ll never get the same push as wayne, + Wayne havent proven himself as a record mogul yet to handle such a artist as Drake that that big of Buzz.

With all the supposed hype Drake ends up over at Young Money? I’m not sure if thats a good look hopefully he’ll prove me wrong.
I thought one of the majors would snap him up and push he’s records super hard. Young Money is relatively new and the boss is addicted to that juice.
I’m keen to see how this one plays out.
