Mikey: With his debut album less than 24 hours away, Drake mania continues and PAPER Mag has put Drake’s full cover story from their upcoming Summer 2010 music issue online. The full issue hits newsstands on June 21st. Check out an excerpt below.
“It may sound cliché, but Drake remembers October 31, 2009, like it was yesterday.
That was the night Drake knew his transformation from Aubrey Drake Graham — star of teen soap opera Degrassi: The Next Generation — to famous rapper had begun. That was the night Jay-Z performed in his hometown.
“Jay-Z coming to Toronto meant every single person was going to be there, which meant the majority of the people in my life were there,” the 23-year-old rapper recalls. “And there was a big rumor around the city: Is Drake close enough to Jay where he would bring me out? And people were like, ‘No, it would never happen.”

I think Drake is a talented emo rapper. I enjoy the So Far Gone EP and some of his other songs, mostly the ones with Lil Wayne on em. Visually I don’t think he’s interesting to look at. Even Camel looking Jay-Z is interesting to look at in pictures. Maybe the right photographers haven’t been found for him.. In fact, in pictures, Drake often translates as asexual, i.e, bland, just like Trez Songz. There’s nothing there… We might as well be looking at air. I think Drake’s camp needs to shave his head and work on some Kojack type looks or something. GIVE US SOMETHING TO LOOK AT. Your audience wants a package (no homo). Just sayin.
Anyway… I was disappointed with the Paper Mag coverage too.The photos are meh and the story is, for lack of a better word, breezy. Jozen prolly wrote this in his sleep. I read Drake’s RollingStone cover story from a few weeks ago and found some similarities in both texts.
From Paper:
“And the women definitely want to date Drake, too. The half-black half-Jewish, half-rapper half-singer has become a full-fledged heartthrob to legions of female fans, a fact he attributes not to his looks but to his music.”
From RollingStone, May 21, 2010:
“As hip-hop continues to drift further away from rap’s basic elements and seeks to re-energize and expand its fan base with a new, hybrid sound that blends rap, R&B, dance, even alt-rock-witness the success of B.o.B, Kid Cudi and progenitors Kanye West and OutKast-this half-singing, half-rapping, half-Jewish, half-black former actor and current heartthrob is helping change the face of the genre firsthand.”
Not saying Jozen is a plagiarist but come on, its kinda lazy and a turn off.
I’m real curious about Thank Me Later, tho.

something too look at?? i dont think drake has to change his look too have people look at him more in this world of everyone changeing their look to try to look cool drakes regular look stands out more than any other plus i dont care how he looks his music is really hott.

i think drake is showing a new side of hiphop,that you can spit dope rhymes and not try too act tuff or not try too hard too show off and not try too look xtra xtra cool in pictures.hes being him self and at the same time hes cool.i see a lot of haters talking about him typeing things that dont make no sence like ” ohh that picture is soo bad” its like what?and this or that.its a new era in music and the thousands of fans that came too se him in ny are proff his base is deep.i see him doing a lot of big things now and in the future.

Why do rappers these days get by on so little? If this dude came out 10 years ago he would be crushed.
