(Drake, Stevie Wonder, Nas, Lil Wayne and more at OVO)
In just two years, Drake has made his OVOfest concert into a Toronto staple, an annual event that I can see expanding the same way Perry Ferrell blew up Lollapalooza. Especially if he takes advantage of his own diverse music tastes and blends rap acts with folks like the XX, Florence and the Machine etc. Last year, Jay-Z, Eminem and Young Jeezy came out for the show. This year, Drake opened the show with The Weeknd (only his 2nd major performance), and then Rick Ross. And then brought out J.Cole, Nas, and the legendary Stevie Wonder as guests during his own set. Mikey and Gabz collected observations and great photos during the actual concert, and there were lots of folks at the show like Erika/Billboard, Toronto native Iluvlola, Nigel D, YN, and more. But I also loved seeing the fan reactions….there were definitely some very enthusiastic ladies on hand….
UPDATE: Stevie Wonder is on Take Care.
“Stevie Wonder is a very close friend of mine. I’m honored to call him a friend, someone who embraced me very early in this music business,” he said. “This is an exclusive right here, because it’s MuchMusic, and we’re Canadian: Stevie Wonder is actually on ‘Take Care.’”
