Drake’s Conference Call: “I wanted to give them an album full of substance that was potent”
Posted by Miss Info under new music , quotes[28] Comments
After releasing his superpop single “Find Your Love” on the internets last night, Drake held a conference call today to talk about it….(thanks to Big D and DJ Juanyto on the assist)
Audio: Drake’s Conference Call
Legend: Drizzy spoke on a conference call earlier to speak on an array of topics & to break down different questions from callers as well as elaborate on things like the single which he described as “vulnerable from a man stand point” and also proud of the song including the visual that director Anthony Mandler came up with for it. He also broke down the email that Jay-Z sent him when he first heard “Over” and how he told Drake “..it’s like the girl you see at the club..shes not the cutest but then you speak to her shes one of the sexiest women of all time.”
When the topic came up about guests on Thank Me Later, Drizzy said he kept it family orientated CTE/Roc-A-Fella/Cash Money with artists like Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Kanye West and also said Kings Of Leon is not on “Fireworks” but he managed to get a special guest on the track to make up for it. He also hopes for a bonus track on the album which he wants J. Cole and Lupe Fiasco featured, for the hip-hop fans, to balance out the CD with tracks like those and “Find Your Love”
He explained that he wanted to give people the best possible project he could at this point in time since he took 22 years to make the So Far Gone mixtape and only a short amount of time to make the album. He also breaks down the R&B records vs. the Rap ones as well as inspirations in his music throughout the last year.

Albeit the minor level of disappointment with the recent material from Drake, I can’t help but to wonder whether the album title ‘Thanks Me Later’ will become a self-fulfilling prophecy… cause peeps were ‘thanking him later’ with So Far Gone.
I can tell it’s gonna make tsunami waves when it drops, cause even the criticisms stem from anticipation/expectation… from rap & r&b purists, and the pop tarts, he’s hitting every demographic.
Damn, Toronto stand up.

Didnt read da retoric, couldnt stomach listening to non beat/vocal formatted material
but what i will say is that
Drake is the Soft Core version to Soft Core Porn that is Hip Hop
every edgy thing he does is so properly placed e.g. the curse words, the mean mugs, bravado, and the properly placed arerial shot of a flute glass in his hand
and unquestionably the properly
enunciated lyrics
shit is borderline ‘speak n spell’

i’m tired of that “it took all my life to make my first album” BS, Jay Z already said that… no excuses, and u shouldn’t blow your creative load on a mixtape anyway

Drake is garbage. The ladies like him so good for him, but I cannot take this cat. If he had to do a song without mentioning a woman, bottle popping/what car he’s driving/ or people doubting on him before he came out he would have no subject matter. The line on Forever should have been “Last name ever, first name greatest, Biggie, Pac, and Pun turn in their graves every time I say this”

the amount hate on drake is ridiculous. he has already proven to be one of the best artist in the game right now. if he wasnt so good, people would not be talking about him this much. if you do not like his music then dont listen. just because he isnt making traditional hip hop doesnt make him wack. i dont get some people… just appreciate good MUSIC when you hear it

Maybe, what they hear is not good to them…so why would they appreciate GARBAGE!? What you may consider good music…some consider it to be WHACK!

Get out of the Matrix. The hate is because people dont like him. The fact is the radio payola and who you know determines how you are marketed and promoted. His songs are on every 5 seconds on the radio and that is why he is known and has a following. It doesn’t mean he is the best artist out. That is for people to decide. He is nothing special, just the flavor of the month. If he was not down with Young Money etc you would not know who this clown is. Who the f “freestyles” off their blackberry. Come on.

Dude’s mixtape did 8000 downloads in the first two hours, was on multiple list for best ALBUM of 2009, and spawned two hit singles. This is before he was even on radio! So sort of kills your argument on why he has a fan base. People like his music, period. Some, like you don’t like his music and that’s fine. But you’re in an overwhelming minority.

Cosign. And to add to that, his website crashed that first night So Far Gone was released because of so many downloads. Drake made history with that So Far Gone mixtape by getting a grammy nod from it. He’s someone who started at least musically from the bottom up and broke through from the internet. To me this is the equivalent of Jay going from sellin records from the back of his trunk to gettin his own label. The story of the come up is so core to hiphop and for people to just ignore the part of this dude’s rise is just HATE!!!

Can we please retire the word hate. Drake is ok to me but just because I am not his biggest fan doesnt mean myself and others dont know or appreciate good MUSIC #justathought

You don’t think people be going over the top with the shit somtime though. Niggas be acting like Drake took their record deal. I wonder if the people who talk about not liking Drake’s music and him not having any content have heard his shit outside of his singles? I’m not gonna say hate, but it seems that niggas don’t wanna give dude a chance. Because then they would stop crying about him not being “real hip hop.” They would have known dude’s style is not just one thing. He does hip hop, pop, R&B, reggae, and whatever else to create a unique sound. I know you guys are stuck not open minded to different things. But could we listen to the guys music a bit before you beat the guy over the head.

I see you are hell bent on thinking/saying folks don’t know good music or are not open minded if they not jocking Drake. Like I said he is cool w/me just not my fav I really don’t get the hype but that’s ok. I listen to various kinds of music not just hip hop/r&b so I am not stuck or close minded by far.

I didn’t say people don’t know good music. Read throughly, understand what was written, then respond young man (or woman considering your name.)
Last I checked it doesn’t mean you’re right or know what you’re talking about just because someone (even if it’s Info) agreed with you. It’s called difference of opinion. What am I supposed to retract my statement because Info doesn’t agree? Nigga please. #carryon

Surprisingly enough, I am not the one talking about what’s real hip hop and what’s not so tell me how I’m trying to say what’s good and what’s not?

i swear to god i’ve been looking forward to this kids album but it just urks me/pisses me off when they say “hiphop” next to his name… most of the shit “he” (not features) put out is r&b. that being said.. i kinda like that new song. and want to see what else he has in store for us.

i respect that drake is not scared to be different. thats the reason he is excelling past the other new rappers, they are all comfortable doing the same old thing but drake is different, love or hate him, you got to respect it.

I Really Wanted this album since i heard- So Far Gone, It kinda gets annoying because 90% of people that sit and call Drake Corny and Wack Havent Listened to So Far Gone Front to Back and really got deep into it- The Same When People Diss Kanyes 808s < A Classic.
Its Like Its Cool Hate Drake Now? Like its fine not think Drake is next up- but you cant deny he has talent.
But the new single i understand its not aimed directly for me but at the same will be on my iPod.
AND I really hope that collab with J Cole And Lupe Happens <Although i feel sorry for drake on that song lol.
WHY do people compare Drake & J Cole- I Just Dont See It At All?

I think its okay to not like Drake BUT I believe some of you folks are straight up haters. I’m not fond of Wale or Cudi, but I don’t take away from their talent, they’re just simply not what the type of music I’m into. Which is cool, to each his own. But to base your opinion on an artist without hearing his album is ignorant. I’d consider your point of view valid come June 15th.
