Drake On Pusha-T’s Diss: “It’s a Frustrating Time For a Lot of People Right Now…Just Make It More Direct Next Time.” (Updated)

(UPDATE: Video added from the Drake x Funkmaster Flex Hot97 interview)
Tonight, Drake dropped by the Hot97 studios to debut his new single “Make Me Proud” (feat. Nicki Minaj) and….for an exclusive interview with Funk Flex:
Interview: Drake and Funkmaster Flex, Hot97, 10-13-11
Part 1: The Serena Williams question
On the topic of his fling with Serena Williams, Drake doesn’t deny it happened but hints that Serena has moved on. “Old news can always become new news, but right now I’m focusing on this album….”
Part 2: Funk Flex gets straight to the drama…Jay-Z and Pusha-T
Flex: Did you know that Wayne was going to go at Jay-Z on “It’s Good”…
Drake: I’m not gonna say that I didn’t hear the song before it went out….Wayne recently said I can never feel like I created a monster in Drake because I’m his boss….I’m a soldier for Wayne. I just did what I’m supposed to do, I delivered a verse. And he does with the song after that is completely up to him…
It’s silly to say that the initial jab wasn’t a jab, it’s silly to say that [Hov’s] initial comment wasn’t completely directed at that situation….and Wayne is never afraid to step up to the plate, did what he did back and that’s what hip hop is about. I have the utmost respect for Jay, I’m not really involved in that situation. He’s been a great mentor in my career. And Wayne is a brother to me…
Flex: Miss Info had pointed it out that Pusha T’s did a freestyle that had some jabs. Did you take offense to it?
Drake: Not really….I’ve never really had any interaction with Pusha T. So for him to diss me would be purely issues that he’s having with himself…We’ve met but we’ve always been cordial. I’m a fan of the Clipse, I say it in interviews….I’ve never really had an issue with him. But it’s a frustrating time for alot of people right now, I get it. So if it’s directed at me, just make it a little more direct next time. I’m up for whatever. I’m didn’t take offense…..
Lol! well-played, Drake. I think he handled both the Weezy question and the Pusha question quite deftly.
More quotes from the interview…
After the jump
(Drake and his microphone in Manchester earlier this year. Photo by Shirlaine Forrest)
Flex: You’re a target, how does that feel? You’re in a powerful camp, you’ve held your own in that camp….
Drake: I’m a happy person, I don’t have any open issues. But at the same time, I hear the slick talk…I think they nitpick at me alot, especially on the radio and internet…I’m always up for a good laugh. But Nov 15, you’ll see what I’m about. I’m pretty confident in that…. If anybody’s ever been offended, it’s probably gonna be on the 15th. I said some things…
Oh boy. *sets timer on microwave for popcorn*
We also posted Rob Markman’s 6-part MTV interview with Drake here. And if you missed Drake’s other recent interviews, he was very frank with Elle about how he got caught up during that Rihanna fling, lol…and says Nicki Minaj may be the only woman who understands him…check:

Maybe it’s Generational but Ice Cube n’ Common, Snoop n’ Deathrow, Shady/Gunit n’ Murder Inc. I miss the direct no apologies nature of those conflicts….Its so damn P.C these days.

“I’m a soldier for Wayne” – Boy stand da eff up and be a man! Your fanbase should be enough to show you that you don’t have to be a soldier for nobody! Not saying you should leave young money but don’t be emotional about shit and say some simp shit like “I’m a soldier for Wayne” sigh…
I wish Nicki had brought out Roman for this verse. (Lawd look at me referring to 1 of Nicki’s 82 personalities..oy vey!)
He did answer that Pusha diss question type decent, I just hope Push takes the bait.. Drake needs a lil fire under his feet and I think Pusha is the one to do it.
October 13th, 2011 at 9:10 pm
Hmmmm. Ok Drake…
IM PROUD OF U…
October 13th, 2011 at 9:25 pm
wow him and serena though? RIGHT after common too? common>>>
October 13th, 2011 at 9:29 pm
“its a frustrating time for a lot of people right now” haha i don’t even like drake like that but that was funny
October 13th, 2011 at 9:47 pm
He dont want it with Pusha!! He not lyrically built for that shit,,
October 13th, 2011 at 11:14 pm
All of a sudden Drake can’t read between the lines, Drake seems to not realize this is a contact sport. I agree sometimes you have to roll up your sleeve days and put in work on the mic, just to let people know you’re still lyrically able to squash any opponent. I’m not condoning to take it off wax but to deny everything because you weren’t named drop or ignore because you think you’re above or below the radar is unrealistic, even jay-z has to send shots back eventually;if not you look soft.
I think me and you have agreed on this issue before, I think he has a problem with competing; you don’t have to be passive aggressive or directly aggressive to know a subliminal shot. free-styling over your new single; along sine other lines within the verses info broke down, wasn’t enough confirmation for drake? He should jump in the ring and throw some shots the “say my name, I didn’t say his/her name” is lame on drake’s part
October 13th, 2011 at 11:30 pm
u cant be serious.
October 13th, 2011 at 11:35 pm
yea i agree what flex said.drake is holding a top spot so ppl gonna try to slide some shots in my own words.but i remember in rap if you wanted to reach a top spot you would work with that artist.but everyone has their own thing lol. but who knows who would win in a face too face battle if it ever came to that yup ohh woaa…
October 13th, 2011 at 11:46 pm
People sleep because he’s EMO as fuck, but Drake in a battle is still a wild card. He’s witty, perceptive and solid lyrically.
A battle with Pusha T could be more competitive than folks think.
October 14th, 2011 at 12:04 am
ay man aside from the “soldier for wayne” line…I’m liking the nigga confidence! im not even a big drake fan but I respect his lyricism! if anything I, and many others just always thought he was soft as hell, but I’m liking the fact that he’s on some “I’m ready for whatever” shit! whether he really IS, we will find out but I respect the fact that he’s tired of getting punk’d! And yes even though I fux with Pusha, lyrically it will be a good battle (and I’m pretty sure it’ll stay on wax)…but when Drake starts to rap lines (facts by the way) like I’m richer than you after only 3 yrs in the game…its gonna hurt Pusha! for the 1st time in his rap career, Pusha might feel like a bitter ol’head in the game! (thats if Drake’s really ready for this!)
October 14th, 2011 at 12:06 am
I like Drake because hes honest. That is a quality that got lost over the years in rappers. He chooses his words wisely.Love ya Drakey.
October 14th, 2011 at 12:19 am
PS: For bitter ol’head rapper references (please see: Skillz)
October 14th, 2011 at 12:49 am
hes scared of confrontation he took jabs at big sean in headlines he didnt say names but you kno who he was talkin about. smh damn i was rockin with the boy till she jus said this bullshit. i mean he. this boy need to man up tighten up that belt, its about time he battle hes in the spot light! your at the top right now dudes want that spot defend it or its gonna get tooken
October 14th, 2011 at 12:56 am

October 14th, 2011 at 2:59 am
i want rap to get violent again. these sissy’s are gonna force me to become a heavy metal fan. i want to see pusha t and drake in a street fight. only then we’ll see what drakes really made of. instead of living in a fantasy world with his black berry rhymes…
October 14th, 2011 at 6:04 am
Big Sean? Really?
October 14th, 2011 at 7:32 am
Shouldn’t even comment on this but I hate how this dude drake correlates his music experience w/ street shit your not a soldier shut up niga!! and what do you mean make it more direct your entire camp is subliminal dissers who never approach anything dead on in an interview its always i dont take offense or its no big deal then some subliminal line comes out smh drake wont battle anyone dead on because they would take his head off he’ll just release hot songs w/ a line here and there he’s a decent rapper but not really impressive take away 40’s beats and the melodies and you got a mediocre verse
October 14th, 2011 at 8:06 am
ima soilder for wayne sounds more like LOYALTY to me than anything most cats dont play there parts of lose sight on ish and bite the hands that feed em – DAMN SHAME
October 14th, 2011 at 8:08 am
PUSHA T WILL NEVER BLOW UP WE ALL KNOW THIS big sean IS CRAZY HOT WIT THE FLOW but hes jus lackin SOMETHING drake is lyrically hott but i wonder if he could battle one on one like on some 8 mile ish hmmmmm
October 14th, 2011 at 8:29 am
(rolls eyes).. How ignorant are we that when a man stands firm in his loyalty, his manhood is questioned. So, he can’t ride for his nigga Wayne by proudly confirming he’s a soilder? He’s that man’s employee,so in hindsight, what was wrong with that he said? Not to mention, what does him being a solider have to do with him as an artist or him needing to grow up? Niggas forget that this dude came out with a mixtape on his OWN, and made his success on his own accord after having a acting career. People are quick to clown but never first in line to give props when they are due.
The man can’t say he’s not with beef and is truthful about his emotions caused he’s deemed sensitive or soft. Most of these rapping ass niggas are pudding soft in the middle, talking tough for their 16 bars. Give me a break.
HOWEVER: If Pusha and Drizzy go bar for bar O_O…
October 14th, 2011 at 9:16 am
Truthfully i think the Soilder comment is fine as MANY folk correlate their team relationships to an army. Wu Tang members many times have sworn loyalty in that manner to Rza, Gza in terms of seeing them as the leaders.
I dont think anyone can fault or question the boys talent or his grind. I think that if he stayed in his lane he’d be fine. But when he lets Wayne and Baby’s thugisms rub off on him and he starts throwing blood references and talk of catching bodies into his lines, he quickly stands out a little suspect.
Im curious why Pusha will respond though.
October 14th, 2011 at 10:32 am
DRAKE isn’t a aggressive rapper. Does KANYE strike back at people? I like his approach. You have zero to gain from naming someone who doesn’t sell like you. PUSHA T has respect but his profile isn’t nearly as high as DRAKE’s. Why give P shine for a indirect diss? Saying anything would be a blog headline for a lame diss on Pusha’s part. DRAKE is better off hinting at a strike back on the upcoming album (oh wait, he did do that). The type of rapper that DRAKE is – gains nothing from beef. He aint a battle rapper, his fans could care less about Pusha T, and like JAY if it don’t make you a dollar it dont make sense to care.
October 14th, 2011 at 10:42 am
This is the problem with young people. Everybody cannot be the KING. Nothing wrong with playing your role – its a real comfortable one that DRAKE’s playing. WAYNE just had his second million in a week day. DRAKE knows his place and that should be applauded.
October 14th, 2011 at 10:50 am
FU-K THE BULL LET THEM DO IT THE OLD SCHOOL WAY BATTLE, THAT’S WHERE YOU FIND OUT WHO HAS N WHO DON’T . THE HIP HOP AND ARE SAME@ THIS POINT NO STABILITY AND LOYALTY

FU-K THE BULL LET THEM DO IT THE OLD SCHOOL WAY BATTLE, THAT’S WHERE YOU FIND OUT WHO HAS IT N WHO DON’T . THE HIP HOP AND THE STREETS ARE SAME@ THIS POINT NO STABILITY AND LOYALTY
October 14th, 2011 at 11:13 am
drake and A R&B artist end of the day
he does want no part in hiphop beef
yeah he has way more of hype amd mainstream fan base than pusha T, but so did ja rule before his 50 beef
October 14th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
you miss the whole point I was making. You don’t have to necessarily capitalize off back n forth records. Sometimes its to make a statement eventually you will be tested as a M.C and to say “you’re not on my level I’m not giving you attn” is just a unrealistic approach. Jay replied to Jim Jones during the balling records phase; he wasn’t capitalizing off it,or gaining any momentum off it.
He just wanted to let Jim Jones know don’t try me. Sometimes a reply is needed for the sport and your personal integrity. I like drake but hes a wuss when it comes to competition he puts himself in a box and a safety bubble then when people pop it he waves white flags. what part of the sport is that? I’m not saying drake should take the 50 cent route but at least stand up for yourself. Even nick cannon defended himself against Eminem. lol
You can write it off as a “drake isn’t aggressive he doesn’t need to respond” Bottom line is Pusha-T sent warning shots and he calmly sat back down and acted like it wasn’t aimed at him. bet you wont catch him in cable knit sweaters anymore though lol
October 14th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
hilarious …lmfao . yeah aggressive content is missing
October 14th, 2011 at 2:35 pm
interesting answer to the Ton shot..The bubble gum rappers are about to have to fight for their right to exist and with the exception of way I’m not sure any of them can defend themselves without losing a piece of their pop base and tarnishing their brand..Thats why Nicki hauled ass away from Kim.. aint but so many Skinny jean and auto tune jokes these dudes gone take..Weird spot to be in..
And for the record I’m a fan of Drake….
October 14th, 2011 at 3:00 pm
U KNOW IT’S TRUE. STOP PLAYING IT SAFE BEHIND YOUR SWEET IMAGE…”POP OFF”
October 14th, 2011 at 3:14 pm
This is mentality as to why I dont “feel” Hip Hop in teh mainstream as I did before. There is no raw competition its all business moves and keeping it P.C to sell albums. Part of Hip Hop’s core is the statement of “I’m Better then You” Now since 50 drilled it in our heaeds that the only thing that matters is sales, that all people use to avoid actually spittin’.
Truth be told if Drake hypothetically was to lash out and catch a lyrical body on one of the more respected MC’s in the game his appeal would actually expand.
October 14th, 2011 at 4:33 pm
well said… i feel the exact same way… i think drake is nice as hell when he stays in his own lane… honestly he’s not thaaat bad with the whole ymcmb swag but it jus urks the hell out of me cause i know thats not him
October 14th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
night would i be wrong to say jazzy started that shit?
thats the one trend he actually ownes..before him everyone man’d up..
October 14th, 2011 at 5:43 pm
ALL IM GOIN TO SAY IS THIS THE CLIPSE DONT FUCK WITH WAYNE,SO OF COURSE THEY DONT FUCK WITH ANYONE AROUND THEM,EAST COAST MENTALITY
October 14th, 2011 at 6:02 pm
i think he was trying to say he dident diss him good enuff to respond in a nyce way lol. he was trying to say get at me hard and imma come for you lol
October 14th, 2011 at 6:29 pm
I love Drake’s response, “Make it more direct next time” lol
October 14th, 2011 at 7:20 pm
That Drake guy is smoove. Bartlett Quotable of the year goes to:
“It’s a frustrating time for alot of people right now, I get it. So if it’s directed at me, just make it a little more direct next time.” ~ Drake, Niggrassi High
That’s the Issac Hayes way of saying “I Love You” to the ‘haters’ and enemies. He earn some cool points from me there.
October 14th, 2011 at 7:31 pm
Big Sean album was terrible worse than Cole world and to be honest even in this climate the quality of their albums reflected in there sales. Whats their excuse for not selling on itunes? the economy?, Next rookie up Wale. lets see what he does.
To call it spade, I’m kind of looking forward to drake album. Ive had enough of the sampled two word play from everyone, which i blame Kanye for lol even J Cole; “watch man” was far out of his element. one thing drake does offer is originality. which is needed.
October 14th, 2011 at 7:43 pm
@Inca True. True. Sticky Fingaz’s dead eye alone is harder than these Rapping Carltons.
October 14th, 2011 at 7:58 pm
drake. “softer then the twinkie filling/playing the villain/prepare for the rap kiiling” BIGGIE.
He remains me of the kind of people that talk shit with his boys but when confronted the the attitude changes. “I was just jokin, nah that was my man talking shit etc”.
ymcmb is not built like that. slaugtherhouse will bury these clowns. heard the joel’s tight jeans line. royce line about the best rapper alive line.
pusha t won’t be a huge star like drake but lyrically u in trouble.
October 14th, 2011 at 8:09 pm
BUT PUSHA ALREADY A VET. LETS NOT FORGET. CLYPSE.
October 14th, 2011 at 10:29 pm
100% COSIGN!!!!!!!!!!! OL SOFT ASS RAPPERS NOW AT DAYS. DRAKE SOUND LIKE A STRAIT UP BITCH REAL TALK.
If he don’t want to go that route all he had to do was act like he didn’t hear a diss or whatever lol. It wasn’t even no real diss anyway. It was more like a “I’m here and I’m that nigga” type of thing.
October 14th, 2011 at 11:28 pm
@ Bank0o
No I wouldnt. As I said this Idea of sales over substance was 50’s callin’ card after he sold 8 million on GRODT. He used that line vs Fat Joe, Nas, Jada(Dblock), Cam and Ross w/o ever really making better beef tracks then any of them.
I don’t even factor Jay0-Z into this equation. I see 2 Jay-Z’s, With Dame and Without Dame. The Jay-Z with Dame ALWAYS got at people regardless of his or their level. He was the epitome of the “dont say my name” MC. Jada, DMX, Jayo Felony, Mase & Harlem World, Prodigy, just to name a few. He spit directly at them. Once Jay and Dame split Jay-Z got on his “bigger then hip hop” position thus avoiding direct beefing.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:14 pm
YES I DEFINATLY THINK BIG SEAN WILL GIVE IT TO DRAKE IN A BATTLE LOL MY OPINION…AND HIS ALBUM WAS KIND OF WACK I CANT LIE, HE IS MISSING SOMETHING. BUT IM JUS TIRED OF DRAKE AND NICKI MINAJ WITH THE SUBLIMINAL SHOTS. IF DRAKE ALBUM IS ABOUT GIRLS AGIAN IM THROWIN IT OUT THE WINDOW
October 16th, 2011 at 1:49 am
true
October 16th, 2011 at 2:49 am
Joell is Ill as F#%k but Drake dont wear skinny jeans
October 16th, 2011 at 6:13 am
Its his boss who wheres tight animal print tights.
October 16th, 2011 at 6:23 am
Drake just saying that. But i bet when it becomes DIRECT. WATCH him PULL an MJ and moonwalk/back step himself out the situation. Watch he knows he is not built for an all out rap battle.
October 16th, 2011 at 1:14 pm
Yeah and kisses grown men on the lips, he’s gay.
