The Craziest Thing Ever: Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg Resurrect Tupac at Coachella 2012

The highlight of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s historic performance at Coachella 2012 was the rumored and much talked about hologram appearance from Tupac Shakur. Fans in person and those streaming worldwide gasped and celebrated as the late legendary MC was brought to life for a brief moment in which the digital image performed “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikka’s Most Wanted” alongside Snoop Dogg.
Miss Info: This was definitely the most incredible stage stunt I’ve ever seen in my life. And the technology was unreal. I also loved how Snoop actually played off the Tupac Hologram like it was real. But that said….there’s a part of me that kind of wishes that the life-size hologram is so expensive that nobody else can do it.
I don’t think we need to see Frank Sinatra, Aaliyah, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, Big Pun, Guru, or any of our treasured fallen legends digitally resurrected for the sake of a performance. (But I’m sure there will be a Biggie hologram before the year is out) The beauty of this moment was the surprise of it all. But I gotta say, even without Pac, Snoop and Dr. Dre completely tore down that stage with the smoothest set, incredible polish, amazing backdrops, and great guests. One of the best hip hop shows I’ve ever seen.
I think it was so shocking and impressive at Coachella tonight, but there’s so much opportunity for abuse.
Mikey Fresh: I just got back to my hotel and I’m in still trying to comprehend what went down. I have to start by saying this video clip doesn’t do this historic hip-hop moment justice. Info and I stood there in awe with over 60,000 other screaming fans as this unreal-insane-mind-blowing hologram of Tupac rapped alongside Snoop Dogg. From Pac’s G-stance to his rap mannerisms, it was almost spooky to witness the life-like image mimic the fallen rapper to a T. Nothing could have prepared us for this. The hologram was even realistic enough to shout out updated ad-libs and a Coachella shout-out. As “Tupac” rapped chills ran down my spine as I heard the familiar lyrics to”Amerikka’s Most Wanted.”
Though, it was an unforgettable moment, I’m also a bit scared about this technology being taken advantage of by the wrong parties. Do you think this is the future of hip-hop concerts?
Watch the bone chilling moment after the jump…..

Word.
He won’t be top with this ever. He picked the right person to do it with where he made impossible to top.
A Biggie, Pun hologram won’t mean crap over this Pac stuff.

This is amazing, 90′s rap, especially the upbeat sounds that brought it mainstream, was so important to music. Three of the best rappers of there time, and the best west coast rappers of all time bringing back an artist like tupac shakur is brilliant.

Nothing, I mean NOTHING in hip hop will EVER TOP THIS PERFORMANCE.
WOW, PAC? SMH. Not fair Dre, that was cheating.
IMO, Up In Smoke was the illest rap show I’ve seen and now Dre did top best performance ever for hip hop.
Kill the westcoat talk. This was best for hip hop as a whole.

When I first saw this technology used by the late great alexander mcqueen, it was visually the best thing I ever saw. In the back of my mind I thought if someone stood next to it would it still look real. This performance is the best model of what a hologram should look like. This is beyond epic, and no one will top this for a long time. I didn’t think they could top kanye’s performance last year but they did.

Seriously though, what Kanye performance?
This will STAY as the best ever because this the genre biggest icon. ah it’s so many reason with it being Pac to list.
Even if it’s done again it will always be 2nd to this being this was the first one for rap.
but list that Kanye show.

When I heard dre was closing out the festival this year I said how are they gonna top last year when kanye closed out the festival with a showstopping performance. When I saw the tupac hologram I said dre and snoop did top last years performance and then some. You can go back and read what I first wrote, I said the same thing. I don’t know what you read?

If you like 2Pac, you might like my blog, Rhymes and Reasons. It’s a series of interviews with hip-hop heads who discuss their lives and a few songs that matter to them. Pretty powerful stuff. Check’em out here:

Super Dope! And that’s exactly why this tech will crawl up it’s own ass w/in a year!
Know what else was Super Dope until a bunch of vultures and ‘like’ buttons got a hold of it…Blues/Jazz/Rock-n-Roll/HipHop!
So hell yea..2Chainz on holo w/T.I. simulcast from 2 different concerts; Adele w/Amy Winehouse and Aretha; Bieber dancing w/Elvis etc…cram it down your throats; you’ll love it and you know it.

i don’t like it. let the man rest. he didn’t make music to sell ringtones, or to fuck kim kardashian, or to campaign for obama, or to appear on martha stewart. tupac intended for his music to be a conduit for a larger economic entity/company/power like the teaparty (minus the hypocricy and the racism). if you’re just going to use his image as a parlor trick to impress a crowd of mostly young, affluent, white hipsters, and celebrities then at least combine it with reputable charities, or political organizations. it’s fun to listen to tupac’s music because it has so much energy infused in it, but it’s a lot less fun to live the reality of the pain which inspired it.

AWESOME. And technology like this will only get even better.
HOPEFULLY IT DOESN’T GET OVER SATURATED.
Imaging Biggie and PAC in holograM performing their “tunnel cut”. Biggie and HOV performing “Brooklyn’s finest”. party and bullshit
I think there will not be a bigger act that night if HOT 97FM does that on summer jam.

I would see BROOKLYN DEEP AND HEAVY WEST COAST PRESENCE in that m*TH*RF*CKER. Don’t think HOT 97FM HAS does PESO’S unless Puffy and HOV contribute to the cause. Which I doubt cause they might wanna do there sets as well and wanna get paid to.

DIDDY SHOULD DO A BIGGIE HOLOGRAM SHOW AND JAY-Z AND B.I.G. SHOULD PERFORM “I LOVE THE DOUGH” AND “BROOKLYNS FINEST”
I COULD DIE AFTER THAT.

Yeah, this idea will get run into the ground once Puffy realizes how much money is out there for this and does a Biggie hologram world tour.

I laughed unctrollably when will.i.am did this in 08 with Anderson Cooper…I marveled at it when I seen it done the right way with Pac!!
and also I agree with Info, HOPEFULLY it doesn’t get ran in to the ground but in the case it does, is it possible that a “living & breathing yet in denial” Shyne can hologram his former self & be dope again?
