I peeped this video on HNNlive’s Madwriter’s report…..and I’m still scratching my head…
Am I the only one who thinks its weird that so many artists are talking about drinking lean (syrup, drank, purp, barre, tussin, etc) like its just another flavored Tropical Fantasy? Just ’cause you mix promethazine with codeine syrup into Big Red or Sprite doesn’t change the fact that you’re taking an opiate just like morphine, heroin, or opium. I remember writing about this for Rolling Stone back in like, 2000 maybe? Back then, DJ Screw was the only high-profile victim…obviously there’ve been more since then.
So if Weezy has been drinking lean for 7 years, its like being a functioning dope fiend for 7 years.
I realize that “gettin’ throwed” and “sippin’ purp” is the norm in some parts, but….um….so was footbinding, asbestos, and chaw.

Info, child abuse victims deal with their pain in different ways. Unfortunately a lot of them turn to drugs and alcohol.
Now it makes more sense to me how he managed to shoot himself.

I agree that “lean” is an opiate and can be harmful….I’m not advocating its use, especially amoung impressionable teenagers….but society chooses which drugs they wanna “ignore” and which ones they wanna demonize.
Cigarettes have killed more ppl across this country in one month than “lean” has in like 10 years. dat doesnt make it better but u see where I’m going with this.
I agree with u to an extent but I dont think u can compare Weezy (who Im not a huge fan off….man kisser…yuck) to a functioning dope fiend. Until Weezy cannot go 1 day w/o “lean” w/o his body doubling over in pain….we can’t put promethazine abusers in the same category as dope.
But I think it’s good ur raising awareness about this b4 all these lil dumbass kids start going out there and ingesting things that slow ur heart rate and cloud ur judgement.

Weezy recently stated in his XXL article that he “can’t function” without his weed and when asked about his styrofoam cup full of syrup (which the interviewer said Wayne ‘always has with him’ [sic]) Wayne laughed and said that he doesn’t consider syrup a drug and that he doesn’t drink.
Those quotes aside, something is obviously wrong with dude, greatest rapper alive or not. Syrup and most other concoctions like it have crazy amounts codeine, etc. in it so I guess I don’t see why Wayne wouldn’t be seen as a fiend. He can barely string together a coherent sentence which is probably why rap works for him since it doesn’t consist of full sentences, but reading an interview with him was like reading jibber-jabber and it would seem that the drugs are the reason for it.

From a person who has tried barre a drug very similar to Lean you can’t do that shit everyday. I felt that I definitely could’ve gotten addicted if there was a big supply near to me, luckily there wasn’t. Yet he’s a grown man so he makes his own decisions and supposedly feels that he’s not addicted.

let the truth be told, I think the `drank` is only 1 of Weezy `F` babys` VICES… I think he doin just as much of that `nose candy` as he is sippin drank… I mean look at Wayne… not being judgmental but dude aint ever sober and tatted up like he is, for his sake I hope he got investments in real estate, a few trust funds and owns a few franchises (NOT….)
its a sad commentary and unfortunately he is the most visible face on young hip hop…. that being said dude is in rare form musically I just don’t like some of the images and most of his content….
