2015 was all about getting back to his acting roots for Donald Glover; not only did he pick up roles in Magic Mike XXL, The Martian and Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man, but Glover was busy writing, producing and starring in Atlanta, an new series coming to FX this summer.

The show revolves around Earnest “Earn” Marks (played by Glover), a college dropout who returns to his hometown of Atlanta after a failed attempt at becoming a rap star. However, in his absence, it just so happens his cousin has become the city’s hottest new rapper.

The series feels especially relevant in an era in which Atlanta is — and has been for the last decade — the mecca of hip-hop, with stars like Future, Young Thug and Migos repping the A. But it’ll be even more interesting to see how Childish Gambino — an artist you don’t immediately associate with the city or its sound — executes the story.

Glover, alongside co-stars Keith Stanfield, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beetz, has been busy promoting Atlanta in recent weeks, and gave FXM the first look at his upcoming show. The video below includes funny scenes from throughout the series, as well as interviews with the cast.

“It’s a show that I always wanted to see on television,” Glover says. “It’s about truth, it’s about life,” Whitlock added. “Even though it is a show for rappers, there’s a lot of truth, a lot of life to it.”

In other news, it appears a new Childish Gambino album is on the way. The Internets recently dug up a screenshot from the website of Andrew Dawson — the producer and engineer best known for his work with Kanye West — listing an as-yet-untitled project from Donald Glover on his résumé.
