DJ Scratch does NOT think EPMD means Diddlysquat
Posted by Miss Info under Beef , Crony-ism , Quotes , Relationships and Family[22] Comments
Yesterday, the homie DJ Scratch sent me a shocking statement about the recent sales of his former partners EPMD. It came with his signature and nothing more. But after setting EPMD fans (self included) atwitter….Scratch wants to clarify that he didn’t actually write that letter himself. And doesn’t wholly co-sign the harsh sentiments either. (Phew, because I hope one day these guys will work out their differences and get back together…., if Erick and Parrish can do it, then anyone can.)
“I didn’t make or write that statement about EPMD’s record sales. A fan on myspace wrote that statement and sent it to me. I was shocked about what he wrote so I copied and pasted it and sent it to my friend Miss Info and a few other friends to show them how some people are still angry about our split. It was my fault to not explain in the email “yo, look what someone wrote to me”. It’s hard express emotion via text. So I apologize for the miscommunication to Miss Info, EPMD & the fans.
But since I have the floor I will make a statement..
If I was involved with the new EPMD album the result of the record sales would’ve been the same. I listened to the album. It’s better than the last two we’ve dropped.
I would be crazy to think that people wouldn’t buy EPMD’s album because I left the group. I only produced one track per album (except Business As Usual where I produced four tracks). So that wouldn’t make any sense.
Our split was very public, I only did two interviews about our split (allhiphop.com and nodfactor.com). Anything else are not my words or opinions. We both have fans as a group and fans individually. I reached out to them when I saw the result of the sales to ask if there’s anything I can do to help. Even though we have our problems, I don’t want to see them fail, as I expressed in a earlier myspage blog.
Usually when a artist drops an album after a long hiatus (Hip Hop, R&B).. The record sales will not be as huge as when you first came out.
The main reason for that is the times have changed, the era has changed. The attention span of the younger fans are shorter. So you have to consistantly put out material to stay current.
The advantage that EPMD and other Legends like LL Cool J, Wu-Tang, Rakim ect is that when you have CLASSICS.. you can tour forever!!! So the poor record sales are not a factor in making money. “Hit records last six months, but classics last forever”.
Our core fans are in their late 30’s.. early 40’s. So all we ask is to support our Legends and go out and buy the new EPMD, Wu-Tang, LL, Diamond D, Q Tip, Busta, DJ Quik, Pete Rock and Large Professor albums. Because at the end of the day.. The fans make us or break us.
No matter what, you can’t take away our classic EPMD records, the groundbreaking scratches on the hooks and the ill DJ routines at our shows. So regardless I’m DJ Scratch of EPMD for day one to day done.”

Scratch is a freakin’ professional. What a gracious guy.
That earlier statement was definitely harsh. I’m glad he clarified.
Thanks for keeping us updated Miss Info. Lesser bloggers would’ve left the drama to brew.

It’s hard to soundscan if noone is aware that your product has dropped. Classic case of marketing and promotions….or lack thereof????

hey it’s my b-day, and no dj scratch is not a professional, if he was he wouldn’t forwarded the email about epmd’s records sales and there would be no reason for to apologize or correct the statement about the email, i think most old school hiphop fans dont want to hear new music for there old school favorite mcs, they just want to hear the classic and we are willing to pay to see them perform.

Backpedaling?
I’ve gotta agree. Scratch’s story smells mad fishy. You can’t tell me he doesn’t
feel slighted that he’s not a part of the new album or that he doesn’t secretly enjoy that it bricked.

Yeah, right. I respect Scratch as a DJ/Producer & for his contributions to Hip-Hop, but c’mon B…
“Scratch wants to clarify that he didn’t actually write that letter himself. And doesn’t wholly co-sign the harsh sentiments either.”
A likely story…

Its not about who like ‘old skool’ its about those of us who appreciate HIPHOP point blank period. When the RIAA recognizes that these crack babies can have RAP…just let our HIPHOP flow n peace, everybody will b happy. I been waiting for their album since JUNE bc I starv for HIPHOP so I search for it bc I know the industry on some sellout *sh rite now. I just wish all the REAL ARTISTS (R&B AND HIPHOP) just put their $ 2gether and make their own version of the RIAA and everything will b and STAY gravy. Those cr@ck@$ ruined a whole generation. They got me aging b4 my time. Cant go out and njoy myself and listen to nething that resemble REAL MUZIC; w/o hearing a whole bunch of wackness! The industry knows who to pick on to b dumb enuff to crossover for $$$. U dont have to b so greedy that as a result u take music out of the rest of our lives. If I ever won the lotto thats what I would put my $ towards…a RIAA that recognizes substance and petition congress to require labels on music that contributed to our psychological well being. I did my thesis on Music Therapy. This way, people have a choice. They dont even give us knowledge of the choices that are out there. God dont like ugly…karma will hit.

Slow down mami, you get shit and fly with it. let’s confirm some shit first, we have to respect the journalism game even tho we’re paving a away for the next generation and people are having a voice to express themselves, but I think you were stating as a quote, no manner how true and to the point the shit was, DJ Scratch didn’t say that shit. I’m just saying, tho. I wish i had the connect’s you have, if you keep that shit up people won’t believe the shit you postin and you will start losing those connect’s as well. I’m just saying tho, this ain’t the first time, so you know I’m fan. Let’s keep it P.I., if you don’t post this i understand.

did you even read his letter?

only reason why some people feel there is a generation gap in hip hop music is cause alot of people hit mid 30s and cant get passed what they listen to back then compared to now as far as the music thats showed commercialy because its a misreputation of what they think true hip hop is and i agree to a certain extent. Think about the mc’s from back then the 80s and 90s battling mc’s now. With the exception of a few rappers today dont matter if there ringtone or underground, rappers now, Damn most of them would never get a record deal if they came out in that era because lyrics half the time dont make sense, word play doesnt make you be like damn let me hit repeat cause dat verse jus blew my mind, and same with the videos, if you hit mute on the tv when watching 106 and park every rapper almost look like they from the same hood and no more originality. This teletubby generation rarely does there hip hop home work because if they did they realize most of the rappers in the game have been around for years and is between the ages of 25 to 39 that run hip hop(exception souljah boy aka todays mc hammer , hurricane chris who can actually spit and plies)…lol no plies is 32 for yall dat dont do research. All im sayin is lil wayne shit aint he round 27 years old will never be jeru the damager(yall youngstas google him).OH yea lil wayne alot of ya shit is banging but remixing every track no matter what kinda of music it is does not give you greatest of all time, fuck nigga you cant even remember half da shit you recorded, dat purp got you shopping in the girls section for ya clothes and a FREESTYLE is never written( kids remeber that). I fuck wit all hip from its birth in 1972 to 2009 and beyond dont matter if its radio or underground eastcoast, westcoast, dirty south, midwest, cause its all in my fuckin blood dat bleeds threw me. Fuck we had wack rappers in the 80s and 90s also. Shouts to EPMD & SCRATCH i luv the new album SCRATCH you need to remix sum joints for da streets

The only bad thing I ever read about Scratch is when he slapped Cassidy a few years back. So I didn’t believe Scratch said that shit about them even though i’m sure he laughed about those sales.
Lets see how many people LEGALLY download the album after they say they didn’t know it was out. They should sell more than the 1st week after this shit. That was dope for Scratch to man up & expain the madness.
Salute
