A walking hip-hop historian, you can always bank on DJ Premier to drop a gem or two in his interviews. During part one of his appearance on Complex TV‘s The Combat Jack Show, the legendary producer reveals that he initially made “Ten Crack Commandments” for Angie Martinez, not Biggie. The track was used as a promo for Angie’s hugely popular Top 5 at 9 show on Hot97, and featured vocals from Jeru the Damaja.

However, after hearing it on Hot97 airwaves, Puffy immediately requested the track from Premo. Despite being at odds with Biggie, Jeru gave up the track because “it’s hip-hop.”
