Last Thursday night, my co-worker and hip hop legend DJ Mister Cee was arrested and charged with allegedly soliciting prostitution from a male undercover cop in Brooklyn. He appeared on the Hot97 Morning Show today to talk to Ebro (who is both a member of the morning show cast as well as the program director for the station), Cipha Sounds, Peter Rosenberg and Kay Foxx. Along with stating that he is not gay, Cee said that the undercover cop was a Latina woman, and that he is taking time off from his Hot97 duties while he continues to get therapy for his use of prostitutes.

Video of the interview is forthcoming, but until then, we have transcribed some of the key quotes from the interview…

Ebro: This time around, now that it’s a reoccurring incident…your preference doesn’t matter to us, you’re our brother, but what’s scary for us, is that there are crimes being committed, if you need our help our support, we’re here for that…
I know it’s a scary place and in hip hop there’s this whole bravado…and being in denial…in your heart, you’re a good person, you’re not out trying to hurt anybody but a lot of people have negative things to say. We just want to make sure that you’re okay.
Here’s what everybody wants to know…are you gay?
Mister Cee: I am not gay. I’m looking in your eyes, I’m looking in Cipha Sounds’ eyes, Rosenberg’s eyes, Kay Foxx’s eyes. I am not gay.
Ebro: Why then, male prostitutes?
Mister Cee: Thursday night, friday morning, I was approached (there are certain things I can say) I was approached by a female latino undercover cop. Not a male cop. I have her badge number, so I know who she is. If you do your diligence, your rsch, the first story that came out in the Daily News, it was female undercover officer. Then from out of nowhere it changed to male undercover officer…I don’t know why it changed to that.

Ebro: This time around, now that it’s a reoccurring incident…your preference doesn’t matter to us, you’re our brother, but what’s scary for us, is that there are crimes being committed, if you need our help our support, we’re here for that…

Ebro: you’re saying that you’re not gay but are you saying that this is just a coincidence?
Mister Cee: I already answered the question that I’m not gay. The incidents in the past, there was one person in those 3 incidents that was a male…as a morning show, if you’ve done your research, that male person put out two different videos, one saying I don’t know Cee, one saying he was involved with me.
I embrace the gay community more than you know, but I am not gay.

Ebro: but as your family, you have gotten in trouble for soliciting a prostitute which was a crime, and they said that it was a man, and we want to let you know that if that’s your preference we don’t have a problem with that…

Mister Cee: When I was in the situation I was in in 2011 and I plead guilty, I did it for 2 reasons, 1) it was too much money to go back and forth to court, and 2) I have a family, my real family and my Hot97 family, and I didnt want to put [them] through the mud…
Ebro: But if you prefer a man, that’s not putting us through the mud…
Mister Cee: No, you’re missing the point, I was talking about the court procedures…it was gonna get publicized. I just wanted to wipe it under the rug…This thing that happened [last week] was just a case of dumb luck.

Ebro: This is the only thing I care about: 1) Mr Cee if you’re gay you don’t need to hide, you’re our family and we’re here to support you. 2) Why do you keep soliciting prostitutes and committing crimes.
Mister Cee: What I’ve been going thru in the past 10-12 years of my life, back in 2001 I was in a serious relationship with a lady, around that time, my life started to get involved with going to undercover strip club spots, combined with getting involved with prostitutes, and it kept carrying on, because it became easy for me…it became a way of life for me. I was choosing that instead of the traditional [relationship]…
Rosenberg: So essentially, you’re saying, while to other people it may seem unlikely that you had this happen on 3 different times, the amount of frequenting with prostitutes was so high, it wasn’t surprising that you got caught out with men…
Mister Cee: If I could have a rally of strippers that are ready to ride for me, like ‘this is our guy,’ there would probably be a room full of strippers…

Ebro: if you were gay, would you wear that on your sleeve?
Mister Cee: I wear everything on my sleeve…when I go on the air everyday at noon, I do it to the death. I ride out.

Kay Foxx: Whether you are soliciting male or female, you never stop to think, I’m Mister Cee.
Mister Cee: I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I’m in my right mind…I talked about this to Flex over the weekend, sometimes in my weird sadistic way, I don’t know how big Mister Cee is. I don’t understand the enormity of it. I do the most common things, you ask me to go to the bougie things, I don’t go. I know there’s a responsibility that goes with [fame] but I don’t grasp it…Flex said, yo fame, just because that people don’t say you’re Mister Cee, don’t mean they don’t know you’re Mister Cee.

Mister Cee: I have an addiction to prostitutes and to getting the quickie…You dont have to believe me. Earlier I said I’m not gay, let’s say for argument’s sake, let’s say I’m lying…that’s my choice. Even if I am lying and I choose to not come out, that’s my choice.
Ebro: but that is disrespectful to other gay and lesbian people because they see that it’s hiding something. That’s why it’s angering people…while you were feeling like the station didn’t support you, a lot of people got dragged into this as well.
Mister Cee: And I also have a right to tell you what it is, when I’m saying from my heart what it is…either you’re gonna believe me or youre not. You’re gonna ride or not.
Ebro: Then at what point do I look at the people that are riding, and say, let me get my ass out the streets?…the last time what did I say?
Mister Cee: You said, that I need help. And I’ve been going to therapy, and I’ve been dealing with it, and I’ve been trying to get answers. I can’t say that I’ll never be involved with prostitutes…

Ebro: What are you doing to get help because this soliciting, I don’t care what your preference is, but this is a crime, and as a family, we can’t continue like this…
Mister Cee: We absolutely can’t, and I’ve said to you, if you want to fire me, if you want to get rid of me, I’m willing to accept that. No company should be subject to the type of negative activity that I’ve been bringing to this company in the past couple years. I’ve said that to you, and you’ve said, we’re gonna ride out…I’m dealing with it, I go to therapy. And even though I have a track record of being arrested, it’s not where I’m doing more of the prostitution thing than just getting with something and lining up something. It’s actually the other way around. But because of me being arrested, that’s what everybody is seeing…but it’s a combination of both, I get prostitutes from time to time, and I get strippers from time to time…That’s who I am.
Ebro: Change. Change. Change.
We work in a business where our listeners are our number one concern. Along with our advertisers. We can not be out here committing crimes, whatever your preference is…but we can not live in a way that is embarrassing to people who are from a certain community where it seems like we’re trying to hide who we are….
Mister Cee: If you feel that’s what I’m doing…I chose to talk about it today because I don’t want people to think I have anything to hide…we’re gonna have progress reports. First and foremost, I’m gonna suspend myself. I’m gonna take some time off. I don’t want any employee to think I’m getting away with stuff…

Rosenberg: I wanted you to be the next Jason Collins…
Ebro: You coulda got tweets from Michelle Obama…Bill Clinton coulda tweeted you!
