AHH has reported that DJ Kool Herc has been released from the hospital after being admitted, due to an unknown illness. While no further details have been released on his ailments, Kool is in dire need of donations to help with medical costs. The legendary DJ does not currently have health insurance. (donation info is available at here.)
“Hip-Hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc has been released from a medical facility, but remains in need of financial aid to help with an unknown health condition.
“I just spoke to Kool Herc
.he’s ok and in good spirits..but needs surgery..THIS TUESDAY at SUTRA..we’re gonna do a collection for him,” DJ Tony Touch tweeted earlier today.
According to Gangstarr’s DJ Premier, Kool Herc’s health is deteriorating and he is in need of monetary assistance, because he doesn’t have health insurance.
“Kool Herc is very sick,” DJ Premier revealed on his XM Satellite radio
show Live From Headqcourterz. “For those that know about Hip-Hop, who we call the father of Hip-Hop, Kool Herc, is not doing well. It’s funny how we have a father of a culture that still lives, where as in some cultures they are dead and gone even though they may still be worshiped or reflected on in some kind of way.”
(more after the jump)
According to DJ Premier, he spoke to Herc, who revealed that he was in need of financial assistance because he didn’t have medical coverage.

its a disgrace. hip hop millionaires a plenty and his in need of financial assistance? 11 billion dollar industry. c,mon jigga, wayne, emnem, dre, busta put up the fuckin funds. sacrifice the income of just a few shows. Sort out the Father of hip hop. it just shows its no longer a culture at all. he doesnt need a daphand shake or a politically correct statement to be made in a interview(ie kool herc s the father nuff respect blah blah)all you otherwise would be broke niggas put your money where your fuckin mouth is. wow. it really is pimps and hoes. me me me me. this leaves a disgusting taste in my mouth. i bet it ends up being krs that puts up the funds. or someone else of that ilk. niggas wanna ride the hip hop rollercoaster but dont want to pay the cat that made the ride in the first place.egomania aplenty is what i smell.

Damn son chill out….the signal just got released for Kool Herc to get financial assistance.. I am pretty sure alot of rappers will respond. They will probably respond by donating the proceeds of a concert to Kool Herc or something like that… Besides that man, i dont think its right to sit there and tell folks how to spend there money regardless if they are a millionaire or not… At the end of the day they earned that money so they are entitled to spend it the way they want.. regardless if you Jigga or a homeless man..real talk

I agree with homeboy up top … These clowns definitely need to help out. And this aint a culture, black folks don’t stick together for nothing positive, its RARE that we ever do. And I’m out here in the streets doing community work and its rare. I hope they donate money for him, I donated money but with the way these rappers act, they don’t give a fuck about nobody but themselves. I’m sure my favorite rapper Lupe Fiasco will help out. He represents the “Culture” properly. he aint in the club giving strippers millions of dollars, smh Fckin LOSERS

Everyone sayin hip hop artists should help him, why them??? this is bigger than hip hop, he’s human not just a DJ. This is your health care, and one case of thousands everyday.
If he was born in u.k his treatment would be free!!!
so next time before u racisit republicans people chop down Obamas health care reform, maybe you should stop and think for a second, because next time it could be you needing help, and no community will bail your ass out.

Tell herc to go to an HHC HOSPITAL. He can get fee scaled for all medical services. All depends on his weekly, biweekly, or mOnthly income. surgery is considered inpatient so he would have to submit resources ex. Bank account, property income, annuities etc. Plenty people do not qualify for insurance because their income are high and many have income from properties, bank accounts with high balances and so on. And they don’t want to disclose this info. If non documented are getting these services than there’s no excuse to not have insurance. By the way only NYC has a program like this. no other state in America provides such help.

Yes Social Service agencies are available to help him. This should be a lesson to the industry. No one is going to look out for you but you. Stop “making it rain” in the clubs and putting spinners on your cars. Get a CD, Money Market or pay for health insurance.
I know the money Herc made was not as much as some are making now so he may not have had the opportunity to save. But this is a lesson for all of us. PLAN FOR THE FUTURE!!! You can’t depend on donations. Feel Better Herc. I’m praying for you.

He is the father of hip hop (rap) and it is one of the most influential music genres that was ever creted. This guy is the father of hip hop and it is enough that his son was killed by all these fag pop artists who are screwing up the hip hop industry. Reply if u agree with me, have a comment and/or know what i mean when i said “his son was killed”. I wish the best of luck- peace my fellow niggas.
