Diddy Named Hip-Hop’s Wealthiest Artist of 2012

Who will be hip-hop’s first billionaire? Diddy’s on his way to accomplishing that feat as the mogul can add another title to his name. Forbes names Sean “Diddy” Combs the wealthiest rap artist of 2012 in the Forbes Five, which is a short list of the genre’s top earners. It’s the second year in a row Diddy’s claimed the title, as the Bad Boy Records founder leads the pack with a net worth of $550 million. Diddy’s fortune includes his Ciroc vodka campaign, Sean John clothing line, and marketing firm, Blue Flame. With his newly signed deal with Comcast to launch cable channel Revolt next year, Puff is well be on his way to gaining billionaire status.

Following right behind in second place is Jay-Z, with a net worth of $460 Million, which can be attributed to his Watch The Throne tour with Kanye West. While Dr. Dre makes headlines twice this week coming in third at $270 Million. That’s double this year as handset maker HTC paid bought a 51% stake in Beats Electronics, founded by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Birdman comes in fourth with $125 Million worth of successful releases on his Cash Money Records label from Drake and Lil’ Wayne last year. Rounding out the top five is 50 Cent at $100 Million with his new headphone line SMS, and energy shot line Street King.

I mean its in the order I would expect it to be in.. Birdman’s numbers seem low to me and then I remember they are only listing ppl who do rap aswell, Birdman’s numbers would be cut in half because he co-owns Cash Money with his brother Slim. At least that’s what I would think.
Either way it doesn’t really matter. All these dudes have over a 100 million in net worth.. To me it doesn’t matter much after that, like “ok your richer than me, fine but I’m rich enough…”
After the 100 mil, I don’t care for the pissing contest.. I’m good!
On HipHopDX I saw niggaz bickering about Birdman not having that much money or 50 being over because he only has 100 mil and it doesn’t make any sense to me….. If u don’t even have 1% of what they have how can u say anything about any of them not having that much lol

“ok your richer than me, fine but I’m rich enough…” I like that, i don’t consider being rich having alot of money in the first place donald trump has more money than all of these people some other guy in this world has more money than donald trump so what.. yo cats really be going at it over how much money there favorite rapper has the money does not benefit me or you so why talk about it

I am right there with you bro.. Wealth isn’t necessarily defined by your net worth in my eyes.
Wealth – noun
1. abundance of possessions or riches
2. plentiful amount
Everybody associates wealth with riches but anything u are plentiful of that holds value to your life is wealth…
So I don’t try to engage in the argument over another man’s wealth, we can discuss it, or have an intellectual conversation about wealth creation but the bickering doesn’t further any of our lives.
The comments sections on Hip Hop websites/blogs is usually entertaining though but I prefer when we can have more thought provoking dialog rather than the senseless and baseless arguments.

I co-sign that EXCEPT for that fact that Donald Trump has actually had multiple businesses of his file for bankruptcy just so he skate with profit. He made his $ the silver spoon-fed dirty way while cats like Puff & Jay really earned their $!
And unless you have over $100 mill in liquid assets it’s really meaningless. I only really respect Puff & Hov when it comes to their cash anyways. Birdman had a $30 mill tax issue at one time so we know dude is not really bout his B.I. anyways. Besides that making that kinda $ by simply killing Hip Hop with that trash is just sickening to me!

+1 Donald Trump is leveraged into his stuff. Some of these guys may have more liquid assets. It would be like if Diddy said “Im worth 500 million dollars, so give me a loan for 300mil to buy this building” and they did, and then he went to the next place and said “I’m worth 800 mil, so give me a loan for 400mil cause you know I’m good for it!” and eventually he keeps borrowing and is ‘worth’ a few billion… until it comes crumbling down, as it has for Trump more than once now.
