With a target of $110,000, De La are offering fans exciting rewards, including a dinner date with Posdnous, Dave and Maseo, a studio session with the group where you’ll record a skit for the album, and even Dave’s gold plaque for 3 Feet High and Rising, which is the most expensive item on the list at $10,000.

As for the album itself, De La have already notched collaborations with 2 Chainz, Little Dragon, David Byrne and Damon Albarn, whom they famously teamed up with on Gorillaz’s 2005 hit “Feel Good Inc.” More importantly, the album will feature samples of entirely original music that the group have spent the last three years creating, given their long and complicated history with the “sample police.”

“Over the last three years, we’ve hired some of LA’s finest studio musicians and recorded them in free-styled, unrehearsed, jam sessions,” the group explains. “We are now in the process of going back to that 200+ hours of music, listening, enjoying and discovering those special moments where, musically, something magical happens, where interesting sounds and layers were forgotten, where new sounds can be sampled, looped, chopped, filtered and arranged, freely, without the intrusive presence of publishing politics and the infamous ‘sample police.'”

Recording is set to begin next month with the album aiming for a September release. Head on over to the Kickstarter page if you’d like to donate.

UPDATE: De La Soul have successfully funded their new album in less than 24 hours. As of 12 noon today (March 31), the Kickstarter campaign has raised a whopping $180,974, which is more than $70,000 over their target!
