David Banner’s song about TI…well, about TI’s bodyguard
Posted by Miss Info under crime , new music[30] Comments

I was ready to hate on this song if it was David Banner straight up condoning what TI (quite possibly) did. Because that would basically amount to the audio version of a Free-TI shirt***. But after listening to it (and I apologize for the racially insensitive hook, but hey, that’s Banner’s creative right) , its more a condemnation of TI’s bodyguard. And that part I can understand, because TI’s bodyguard actually “snitched” in the true definition of the word…and not the Camron-60-Minutes-Serial-Killer-Next-Door-Just-Move-To-Another-Building definition of the word. But then, Banner launches into a dead-prez-ish rant about community vigilantism, which just isn’t realistic.
“thugs grab your AK’s, girls grab your 22’s…”
um….yeah, that’ll help.
David Banner’s “B.A.N. (The Love Song)” dirty version

(***speaking of which, the other day I saw some hipster f–k walking on Houston St., wearing a streetwear tee with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il on it…That is some extra dumb shit. Pissed me off. I know its cool to rock some rhinestone hoodie with Scarface or Jason Voorhees on it, but that’s Hollywood. This is real life. Do these idiots even know who Kim is besides just a crazy looking Asian guy? Yes, he has a funny hairdo but he’s also starved an entire country to death while he prints counterfeit $ and pushes drugs to support his sick habits. And if you do something he doesn’t like, you go to a concentration camp. Oh and so does your whole family. And after you die, your kid’s kids still have to stay in the camp because they had the bad luck of being related to you. But, who cares! My tee-shirt looks fresh!)

Lmaooooo @ the intro to that D. Banner Song. There’s a lot of truth to what he had to say in the song as well. What that bodyguard did is SNITCHING in the truest form of the word. If you do dirt and get caught…you do ur time, you don’t start folding like portable picnic tables.
….Streetwear started off as a cool concept but has long since become a parody of itself. It’s sort of like Punk Rock Music circa 1982 or Crunk/Snap/Southern Music circa 2005 (with the exception of Outkast & UGK). It’s annoying to see a bunch of ppl who all dress the same who all think they were the first ones to start dressing like that. Wearing a bloodthirsty, power-crazy dictator on your chest like its a badge of honor is hipster thinking in its purest form…..which of course is pure f*ckery & stupidity.

dude, most young people only thing Kim Jong was a funny characted on “Team America”. It’s so funny you brought this up Miss Info because this in some ways parallels the whole issue with nigger/nigga as an album title. It’s all about context and perspective. I know this is discussed on a different thread, but I can understand both sides of the argument. Nas has his creative outlet and word reclamation can not be dismissed; while others like Jesse Jackson are disgusted with the trivialization and commercialization of the aforementioned terms. Similarly, there is a segment of the homosexual community that embraces the term “fag”, NOT ALL, but some. This generation needs some education, good lord.

When it comes to fashion i dont think people really put real thought into what they wear these days, and the person with that picture on his shirt or watever he was wearing probably didnt know who the face on his shirt was or wat he represented, that in no way means that i condone wat he was wearing but like much of this world alot of thought does not go into things of that nature unless is immediately affects them.
Is it just me, or am i the only one that thinks those multi colored hoodies are tacky, especially wen i see gron men and women wearing them (with multi colored sneaks to match)?

David Banner took the words right out of my mouth!! I hate that punk bodyguard. His job was to protect T.I.P not set him up snitch on dude and put him behind bars and steal 5-10 years of his life??
The bodyguard is a low life scum bag i have absolutely no respect for dude, snitches kill more black folk than guns all this snitchin leads to retalition and people getting put behind bars. This bodyguard shud have reported back to T.I whn ATF approached him told T.I to watch his back just like Prodigy did to Fif.
As for the guns if R.I.P Stack Bundles, Jam Master Jay and the late La-La and her boyfriend had been in the studio with T.I they would have probably been alive coz T.I got the arsenal to protect himself. I blame the bodyguard for all those incidents coz he a punk!

I agree with HIPHOP. What younger kids wear today is retarded. What is up with these tight-ass jeans, totally showing their asses and rainbow hoodies? Honestly, do you younger females like that look? Like, wtf. Sorry, just had to rant. I hate that sh*t.

As I take off my ‘Hitler : The Real Gangsta’ t-shirt and hold my head in shame… Maybe he’s a fan of people dying and fucked up dictators. This is freedom of speech and capitalism at it’s best and worst. Unless we’re gonna dismantle the system and live in an oppressive regime (aren’t we almost there?) these are the things we can expect of the ignorant. I think you should have engaged this young person in convo and hopefully enlightened them on the issue. As for Banner, he’s back on that ignorant shit these days. He’s one of ‘those’artists (not to ingonre his contributions (I will forever respect him for his attention to hurricane victims)) like Tru Life, and a fw others that talk al this positivity and logic but then turn around and say a bunch of dumb shit and call it reaching out to the youth. That argument is d-e-a-d.
And too many people speak on shit without knowing the full details, ‘but I watch the news’. Those muh fuckas are the biggest liars and perception twisters. Wasn’t anyone else there with T.I. but wifey and Dro to really comment. When the smoke clears if that was the body guards m.o. yeah he’s a foul dude. Seriously though, T.I.’s only got 2 hands why you need so many burners? Just be smart people, and if you don’t know what that is…ask someone you think is smart…then ask another 2 people. E-Z

I really like this song. Its funny with the hook but I really like what it means. What the bodygaurd did was truely snitching. It sounds like to me that the bodygaurd got jammed up and the feds said look give us something on T.I. and like the low down p*ssy he is he took the deal.
@ Dope Boy what do you mean Prodigy gave the heads up to Fif?? Please explain
@INFO tell me why I heard Fat Joe was waiting around the HOT 97 for flex to play his whack as song so couldn’t play that 50 and lil kim song. Is that true??

speaking of snitches, one guy who has totally gone under the radar for being the anti-snitch is Greg Anderson, the former trainer for Barry Bonds. The Feds keep questioning him, but he refuses to answer and sits in the federal pen as a result of it. He is being held in contempt because the Feds are investigating Bonds for possible perjury to a grand jury. This is a down-ass dude, and he’s white. He ain’t from the hood or the traps. Banner is right. We need to do better and not place ourselves in these precarious positions; but we also don’t need to cooperate with the alphabet boys in their calculated witchhunts.

Ms. Info,
This is directed towards you, and since you comment I know you’re reading. I have become somewhat of an addict in terms of your blog. You took me to church with the t-shirts. The kids and the hipsters don’t get it. Say what you want about Cuba and it’s dictators, but half those kids wearing Che Guevera shirts didn’t know who the fuck he was. Even though Scarface is hollywood, kids wearing those t-shirts perpetuate acceptance of Hollywood’s racism. I’ve been to L.A. there are more than enough Hispanic actors walking around to play the part of a Cuban man, and I’m sure that twenty years ago it was the same. Why are so many young minorities so keen on a movie where a white man is pretending to be Cuban, with a fucking mockary of an accent. Does anyone recognize discrimination? and racism?
I think that all of you are missing the point, when you’re talking about the horrible way that kids and most rappers alike dress. Kids will be kids in terms of fashion. Does anyone remember the 80’s. The point is that motherfuckers are walking around with pictures of a dictator on their chest, and they don’t even know what the fuck it’s about. It just looks likes their stupid and insensitive. It’s like White people using the N word and not even thinking that something wrong.
I guess that example is good reason for why Nas needs to really go hard at explaining his album title.
As for David Banner his politics are a little fucked. Agreed, the bodyguard is the textbook definition of a snitch. But as I understand it, he was setting it up and the feds were like “we know what you’re doing, we want T.I.give him up or you could just go down”
What happened the last time any of us said “No” to our boss. We don’t know what happened. This man may have had a family to feed and no way to say no to TIP. He could just be caught up. No saying that I’m for snitching, we just don’t know. TIP could have said to him “( Please do this REALLY DUMB SHIT or GET FIRED). Nothing is ever really Black and White.
Also, I’m working on a clothing line that gets at this ignorance in Street Culture and fashion. Fuck a Scarface tee. Big things poppin at Freshfeature.com

@ Rich….David Banner is all about free speech and anti-censorship. Maybe I missed something about positivity, but I don’t believe that’s what he was talking about as recently as when he spoke before Congress. His thing has been that America can’t blame hip hop for society’s ills. America, for better and/or worse, has shaped the environment from which hip hop was birthed and has evolved. I think T.I. said it best, “We wouldn’t rap about B’s, N’s, and H’s if there weren’t any”. In the wake of the Don Imus crap, “somehow” all the attention turned to hip hop. How come Don Imus can’t say nappy headed ho, but all the rappers can? Same question people have been asking since 2 Live Crew and NWA days. It doesn’t change.
@ boogie….so right. after people hit up miss info’s page, they need to take a look at a newspaper. all the major ones have web sites. you don’t even have to pay the measly change. it certainly helps to put all this nonsense into perspective.

Fuck snitches I hate em ,but….I can’t sympothize with TI cause he was given an opportunity that most of us in the hood don’t get and he fucked it up , for what.. He aint in the streets like dat, he aint in no real beef thats what all of his armed security is for, he aint in the streets doing shit that real niggas gotta do to survive where they might need those guns. He’s a rap no pop artist trying to be a gangster but this is what happens to gangsters in real life they go to jail, in my opinion his real life was way better than that and he fucked it up.

@ Fresh, you missed the point completely, The Character Al Pacino played (Tony Montana) in the movie is what inspires us miorities to go against all odds to achieve our goals. C’mon Al Pacino killed it in that movie, c’mon listen to Rick Ross’s “Port of Miami” you’ll see why Tony Montana is relevant to us and to hip-hop.
Scarface was and is still a classic, Biggie got inspiration from it “10 Commandments” Scarface the rapper sketched his career fromit on and on e.t.c. Now in terms of dictators Escobar was an animal but dude still had morals and principles where he kept his wife and kids 1st, thats how they caught him, thru his kids coz he could have easily fled the country and forgoten about them, now as a young black boy with no daddy you can see why that character would make an impression on a young kid. No matter wht his life in danger he stuck by them.
But I will say this if you step up to be a leader and you starve your people and cause civil war e.t.c your an assH*le and thats what that Kim Jong is. So wearing T-Shirt with homeboys picture is you being an ass!

@ Fresh, if T.I’s bodyguard was worried about his family he would have gone about things differently.
He’s actions have rappers making diss songs at him, black folk hating him, his kids are goin to go to school and get victimised coz thier daddy a snitch.
He shud hve reported back to T.I.P warned him, and ask T.I.P to get his lawyers involved so their can minimise the charges, get rid of the guns, drugs e.t.c. If he was faced with jail time ask T.I.P to take care of his family financially and I think T.I.P would have done that coz he let him into his family and trusted him to take out money on his behalf from the bank.
But no, knuckle head dropped T.I.P right in it, now he’s living a nightmare and probably will never get employed again for being a Judas.
As for The Imus comment black people can use the word nigga amongst each other because the fact that they are of the same race cancels out any racial hatred, coz black people have their own definition of nigga and how to use it. That being said black people only use it amongst their peoples and not with people they dont. C’mon its in our DNA to take vocabulary and use it how we want aint there like.

i want to know why people are defending him… he was committing a crime, the fact that he was using a middleman has nothing to do with him illegally purchasing weapons of this caliber.judas… the fact that you even thought to say that is blasphemy…fernando and lenny die, rich nice thank you… and all these rappers that went before congress and were on these panels justifying hip hop{i.e. david banner and clifford} way to go, way to walk the walk and talk the talk…i’m done with rap and its hypocrisy

@ Greg Am defending T.I simply because he was set up, he’s been accused of purchasing illegal weapons while being a convicted felon.
Who sold T.I the drugs? An undercover ATF agent so how is the gun illegal when an ATF agent sold it to him, they used the bodyguard to implicate him, now he’s the most hated man in hip-hop and rappers will put him on blast and his family will get the backlash.
T.I’s case is a classic case of racial profiling, they got the weapons sold it to him, kept his money arrested him and are looking to take 5-10yrs of his life. The law enforcers are part of the problem they knew T.I would purchase the guns based on wht happened to him.
@ Greg, Hip-hop is the rawest form of music gun crime, murder e.t.c are shown on the big screen Texas Chain Saw’s, Saw e.t.c but thats entertainment worth Oscars, rapper says gun, kill and they want him executed, imprisoned e.t.c now that’s HYPOCRISY!!
Hip-hop never dies it changes form from time to time coz everybody keeps it movin. People take a look at the hip-hop FORBES 1-2-3 and realise that all that high life, high tea e.t.c means nothing to us we have our own version of the Good Life that makes there lives seem dull and boring.

@ AR15 Minorities need a white man pretending to be a minority to teach them to go against all odds?
It’s obvious why those characters are appealing and I understand liking gangster movies, even though the black community has
real life heroes, Malcolm X ? He was no snitch. He knew the Nation was gonna kill him and he gave up nothing. I just don’t understand why so many Blacks and Hispanics
like a White man pretending to be Cuban, and with a horrible accent I might add.
@Malcolm, I don’t know TI’s bodyguards kids names do you? As far as going back to tell T.I. something was up, have you meant the FED? He would have been done. Prodigy told 5o and now he’s gonna have three years of butt sex to look forward to.
I believe that there are hip hop police and a system in place in America to keep Black men down, but TIP is an admitted seven time felon. Past behavior is the best indicator future behavior. Setup or no setup, bodyguard or no bodyguard a walk in safe with thumb
print only access that’s full of guns. The FEDs would have found a reason to search
him and they would have found that shit.
