The official kickoff to festival season started on Friday, as Day 1 of Coachella 2018 began at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. The Weeknd headlined opening night with an electrifying set of hits, while SZA was joined by TDE labelmates Kendrick Lamar and Isaiah Rashad, plus Trippie Redd. Snoop Dogg brought the good vibes to Jamiroquai’s set, meanwhile Belly was joined by Rich the Kid and NAV over at the GOBI Tent. Chance the Rapper and H.E.R. made guest appearances earlier in the day for KYLE and Daniel Caesar’s sets respectively.
The major highlight from Day 1 came from the latest social media sensation, Mason Ramsey. Dubbed the “Walmart Kid,” Ramsey was invited by DJ/producer Whethan to yodel “Lovesick Blues” as Justin Bieber was enjoying the moment from backstage. A Coachella regular, Rihanna, was spotted moving around the Polo Club grounds watching a few of the late-night sets. Vince Staples (with Kendrick Lamar), Rita Ora, Jamie Foxx, Kelela, Steve Aoki also highlighted a busy first day. Check out some photos and video below.
