It’s official, Childish Gambino lands his first No. 1 record. After previous reports last week, the rapper’s “This Is America” single debuts at the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Released just moments before doing double-duty on SNL earlier this month, the record’s success can be attributed to its polarizing music video. The visual has been viewed 109 million times to date, as viewers continue to decode and decipher that various hidden messages throughout it.

“This Is America” dethrones Drake’s 16 week run at No. 1 with “God’s Plan” (11 weeks) and “Nice For What” (4 weeks). Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover’s previous highest charting record was the Grammy Award-winning “Redbone.”
