chief keef dropped by interscope

Bad news for Chief Keef, who was quietly dropped from Interscope Records last week. AllHipHop broke the story citing a source within the label, before Keef himself confirmed the news via text earlier today.

*Update*

Miss Info: News flash…Just because you want something to be so…doesn’t mean that it actually is so. Even though Keef has been tweeting that he is off Interscope, and “splitting” up with Jimmy Iovine…reality check, Chief Keef is, as of now, still signed to Interscope. Which also means that he can’t really be selling his upcoming mixtape on iTunes.
But maybe all this foolery will prompt the label to give him the walking papers he desires (deserves?).

According to AllHipHop, the breakup has been a long time coming with Interscope “subtly disassociating” themselves from the troubled rapper following a string of legal and drug problems over the last two years. Friction intensified when Keef’s efforts to push for his sophomore album were unsuccessful, leading to his eventual departure from the label earlier this month.

Keef signed to Interscope in the summer of 2012 following the success of his hit “I Don’t Like,” and would go on to release his debut studio album, Finally Rich, which has yet to push more than 200,000 copies. Looking ahead, Keef’s music — including his upcoming Back From The Dead 2 project — will be released solely through his own Glo Gang/GBE imprint.
