Chance The Rapper is not only the first independent artist ever to perform on SNL, he’s also a nice guy. During a recent appearance on Chicago’s WGCI Morning Takeover, Chano announced his new initiative “Warmer Winter,” which aims to provide coats for a thousand of the city’s homeless population. The target is $100,000, and he’s already raised enough to buy 30 EMPWR coats, which can also be used as a sleeping bag or worn as an over-the-shoulder bag.

This is far from Chance’s first positive impact in his community; he also lead the #SaveChicago anti-violence campaign (with the help of his father) and runs after-school open mic nights. Between this and his continued success in music, it’s not hard to see why Chano was named “Chicagoan of the Year.”
