Contrary to reports: Shyne still in custody pending immigration review
Posted by Miss Info under crime , good for hip hop[43] Comments
We’ve known about the pending release of Shyne Po, but I was told yesterday that the release was being delayed. This afternoon, CBS News jumped the gun by reported the following:
NEW YORK (CBS) New York Rapper Shyne was released from prison today after serving more than eight years for his role in a 1999 New York night club shooting involving mentor Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and actress Jennifer Lopez.
A Clinton Correctional Facility staffer confirmed his release.
But MTV News followed up with a correction….Shyne is actually still in federal custody, pending a review of his immigration status:
“Representatives for the rapper revealed to MTV News that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize, a rep explained.
“Shyne is currently in federal custody while his future immigration status is determined,” the rep said in a message to MTV News. Shyne attorney Oscar Michelen emphasized to MTV News on Tuesday afternoon that Shyne has not been released, contrary to media reports.”
This is worrisome for his fans. Insiders knew of a looming deportation threat throughout his parole process. And there were many steps being taken to try to resolve them…even hopes that powerful connections to Belizean officials would be able to help. We will have to wait and see what happens.
Previously: Shyne to be released on Oct 6th
And on a related note, recently Diddy spoke to DJ Absolut about Shyne’s pending homecoming….and said: “It’s a blessing that he’s coming home…I spoke with him a couple weeks ago. He sounded like he was in good spirits. I know he can’t wait to get home. And I know he’s definitely gonna heat the whole scene up…” I can’t wait to hear more from Shyne himself on that convo.

Good for him finally being out of jail, but honestly, does anyone care about him musically? I mean good he is out of jail and free, but who would want to sign him, who even wants to listen to him?

it’s a sad say in america, when you see admitted murders walk free, and they are welcomed home by top celebrities.

who got murdered? and if the legal system tries and sentences someone, shouldnt they be able to fulfill that punishment and then get out of jail? Or are you saying Shyne should serve more time than he was sentenced?
The issue of who welcomes him home also depends on his individual relationship to those people, no?

yes, but that’s the personal aspect of all crime victims. Of course I wouldnt feel this way, neither would my family. But, as a bystander I have to go by the rules of this country. I can’t make up my own. Those are feelings. These are laws. I’ve been the victim of crimes that were not punished. I still had to let go.

Seriously?? You guys are justifying his actions because it wasn’t premeditated and he was provoked to shoot someone? Wanting to hear him rhyme and such just because he’s some rapper? He almost killed a person/people. Thank God they survived their horrific ordeal. His actions and the way he reacted that night speaks volumes on what type of person he is and yet people are so anxious to hear him rap. Let’s not forget he shot some woman in the face and she survived and her face is disfigured. Imagine her face as you guys listen and jump all over his balls over his 16 bars.

Diddy, Shyne and JLo went to club to party. Shyne reacted after being provoked. Now he may have overreacted but it wasn’t like what happened was premeditated murder/attempted murder just because they were carrying guns.
If anything it justifies them feeling the need to protect themselves, because someone did try to disrespect them in public and Biggie and Pac had been murdered just a few years before the incident. Whoever caused the incident walked away free of wrong doing from what I can remember and Shyne ended up doing time.
The man has paid for his actions and it is time for him to be released. Nobody died from the incident. Shyne is NOT a murder. I just hope he still wants to do music.

I wouldn’t go near anyone with the names “Sean, Puffy, Combs, P.Diddy, Bad Boy Ent., etc” after I just did a bid for you and you wasn’t my Co-De by choice.
The whole, city is mine, prettiest Don
I don’t like the way P. Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers /
Why it’s mentioned in my rhymes? Fuck it, it’s just an intro

I can’t believe this. Shyne did not shoot at anyone, he shot at the ceiling twice. That probably why the attempted murder charges were dropped. He did his time and deserves to be free now.
I am very dissapointed by this news. This is rediculous. FREE SHYNE

Since these new events are not new to Shyne or his lawyers, I’m hoping during Shyne-Po’s prison sentence that his lawyers reached out to the lawyers that represented Slick Rick for some insight as to how to best proceed with these events. Both guys were not born in the US, both guys committed aggrevated felonies and both guys did lengthy prison sentences. Now ultimately Gov. Paterson pardoned Rick but I think Shyne is not going to have that sort of connect. If my memory serves me well, Shyne’s mom was not married to The Prime Minister of Belize and had to run out of Belize because she was sort of the other woman having a bastard child. So the question is does the Prime Minister have some sort of paternal feeling for his son and what his son can possibly achieve in the US? If so then that is one gold star for Shyne. Now in the US, some behind the scenes discussions need to be taken place. Now Slick Rick always had Russell Simmons in his corner and everyone loves Russell. Who is in Shyne’s corner with some clout remotely on the level of Russell who may have political connects, cause that is what is needed here? I’m hoping behind the scenes, Mr. Combs is at least making some calls. I’ve been listening to some of Puff’s recent interviews and whenever the topic is about Jamal, he seems to speak from a emotional place. Whether that emotion is sorrow, pity, or empathy I don’t know. But it seems like he wants to reach out to Shyne when he gets home and really speak to him, even though they spoke. I think the Shyne incident really leaves a bad taste in the hip hop community’s heart as it relates to Puff. There are always things that are suppose to remain behind the scenes and if Puff can look out, I don’t think it would come out that he did, and that is where it should remain, behind the scenes. Only those that should know, would know. And to those speaking with anger, understand that the only reason people speak about Shyne in high regard and were looking forward to celebrating his release is that Shyne was coming to the defense of his boss and playing the role of soldier to a tee. On that level, there aren’t too many honorable individuals out there now. Sometimes, being honorable can get you in trouble and it did so for him. The hostility would be understandable if he got a light sentence but he most certainly did not. Many thought the sentence was a tad bit harsh. The man converted to Judism in prison. I think everyone wants the judicial system to be able to bear witness to the prison system doing its job in being a correctional facility and correcting some of bad behavior that he may have had prior to prison. How can they see it if he is in Belize? Let’s see our tax dollars at work.

Speaking of unpopular opinion…I don’t care about how many hot 16s this uncivilized savage has dropped. He pulled a gun and shot in a dark club just because someone threw money at him/Puff. I’m sorry but as much as I dug his old stuff and as much as I love my NYC cats and Brooklyn peeps, that’s one less predicate, savage felon that we need to deal with. He’ll be alright. Besides, his pops is the PM of Belize!

The whole notion of Shyne and his lawyers not being aware oh his immigration problem is BS. Shyne was ordered deported back in 2005 and him and his lawyers have been trying work things out behind the scenes for the last 4 years. Shyne will never be allowed back in the US once deported. If he plans and markets himself right he can have a very lucrative career overseas. Good luck to Shyne. He did what a lot of dudes in hos position wouldn’t have. Puff has looked out for him behind the scenes but none of that will ever be publicized.
