Birdman wasn’t the only dude putting his money on the New England Patriots. Over here on the East Coast, our friends Cousin Bang and Cam’ron put on a friendly wager between themselves. Actually, “friendly” probably isn’t the best word even though these two are family. It appears Cam’s infamous New York logo chain was the wager for their Giants vs. Patriots Super Bowl championship bet. Cam had his hometeam of course, or so he thought... Skitzo sent us this footage to show us what really went down. HAHA!

Iggy Azalea Signs With Interscope, Says Jimmy Iovine Called Her the ‘Next 2pac’

A$AP Rocky’s boo has officially signed with Interscope Records. The Australian bombshell elaborated on her deal with Billboard’s The Juice. Apparently, Jimmy Iovine was so taken back by her that he compared her to the “next Tupac.” That’s a pretty bold statement, and I’m sure Jimmy will have a response to this at some point. Currently, Iggy is working on her debut album, The New Classic (slated for June).

“It’s a family and it’s a long-term commitment,” Iggy tells The Juice. “People aren’t just asking you to sign for one album. They’re asking you to sign for like three or four, sometimes five and that’s like a marriage.”

“I think they [labels] have things that they specialize in. Def Jam, I love. I was super close to signing with them. I think they’re just the best team. I think they’re really passionate about what they do and you can just tell that they’re so hungry over there. But then you look at who they’ve got signed to their label and it kind of makes you be like, ‘I don’t know. Am I going to be the guinea pig here for this?’ I don’t know.”

“Drake called me and said he had a beat that 40 did and wanted me on it, told me to do what I feel on the record. The first thing that came to mind was my first time meeting dude,” Kendrick says. “Me being a fan and following his music, I kind of had an idea of where he was at in his career. He’s in a space where vanity can be a definite crutch if you’re in denial.”

“But [Drake’s] honest, he acknowledges his vices and faults. I wanted to speak from a standpoint of being a new artist watching everything that’s killing him and wanting to die. We all want a taste of vanity. I seen a taste of it the night I met homie; black Maybach, white waitress, private dinner with crew, 40 pulling up, jeep with no doors. All he needed was Aaliyah [laughs]. All of this was in the homie’s possession that night, and in that moment I wanted it. The conversation that night was real. ‘Am I ready to accept this lifestyle…’ is where I end the verse. I sent it back and drake called me back with a simple “thank you…” and “Everything is subject to change…”

NYMag: Take Care has a lot of feelings. You write these very emotionally specific songs and then you have to live with them however many months later. Does what you write stay relevant to you?
Drake: Yes. I do not take to Twitter or any social media outlets to document my life. I don’t have a diary, so I use my music as time markers. So Far Gone is still as powerful as ever to me because it allows me to vividly remember where I was at that time and because I talk about such personal things. It almost is a reminder to myself of, “Oh man, that’s who I was dating at that time and that was what I was driving? And that’s where I was — that’s the apartment — ” I’m very precise about the things that I talk about and therefore my music doesn’t lose its value to me.

Lil Cease Says Heavy D and Biggie Wanted to Record an Album Together

With Heavy D’s untimely passing still fresh on hip-hop’s collective minds, rappers from all coasts are coming forth with remarkable things to say about the late rapper. DMX said earlier this morning, Heavy was one of the reasons he believed he could make it as a rapper. Now, Lil Cease has revealed that Heav and Big wanted to record a whole project together. Biggie’s former right-hand man spoke about the immediate bond the MCs shared and the tremendous influence D had on Big. (Props to Shaheem/XXL)

“Hev was that mentor [to Big],” Cease explained. “Hev would give him lessons on the type of records to make. ‘Don’t be afraid to go out your comfort zone. I know you’re known for the ‘Gimme the Loots’ and ‘Ready to Dies,’ but don’t be afraid to make those other type of records, too.’ He was letting him know, ‘The ladies tend to like us big guys if we talking the right shit.’

Cease says Big’s hectic schedule got in the way of the album happening before he passed. They recorded the tracks “Jam Session,” “A Buncha N–gas” and “Let’s Get it On” while they were both alive.

“After Big took off, it was hard for them to set up the schedules,” Lil Cease said. “But, Big always had the idea in his head like, ‘Yo, you know what? Me and Hev doing something together.’ The relationship was there being around the whole Uptown situation. It was a unit, everybody was a family up there; Mary [J.] Blige, Jodeci, Christopher Williams — it was that bond. Him and Big was gonna try to put something together. That’s why they were doing all those records together [and trying to get] a vibe off each other.”

“So you hear those influences in ‘One More Chance,’” he said. “You hear it in the remix, ‘Fuck You Tonight,’ all those girls records. Of course Big got some of that from him. Even with the style part, the dress codes. They both was big guys, so they couldn’t find shit to fit them. So Hev would come out with that custom made leather shit. Big, he was getting those 5001 Flavors leathers made of his own shit with the ‘B’ on it. He just took that pipeline from Hev because Hev is the one that opened the door for the big guys to be lovable , to be fly.”

Drake Launches ‘Club Paradise’ Tour at Penn State

Drizzy kicked off his Club Paradise (with special guest Kendick Lamar & A$AP Rocky) tour last night at Penn State University. We’ve heard Drake talk about this tour extensively and explain how he really wanted to hit the colleges and smaller venues this go around. Surprisingly, I’m not seeing much quality video and photos floating around, but we’ve compiled a few things for now.

Before closing out his set, Drake dedicated a few words to the prestigious campus, currently knee deep in controversy.

“I want to truly thank you for being able to come together and have a great evening. Like I said, despite everything that’s going on around you, this is one of the greatest schools in the motherfu**in’ world. I love you,” he said to cheers from 15,000 concertgoers. “I’d love to come back some time, maybe with some of my family like Nicki Minaj. So while I work on making that happen, you work on being the beautiful people that you are. And until next time I see you, take care.” - via RapUp

Lil Wayne and Birdman Headline First MTV2 Sucker Free Awards

The first annual MTV2 Sucker Free Awards is going down on Dec. 4th at the club Liv in Miami. I’m guessing it’ll be some kind of YMCMB takeover from what I gather. MTV announced more details today and said Weezy and Baby will be performing “Y.U. Mad” from Birdman’s Bigga Than Life album /‘Billionaire Minds’ mixtape as a part of their set. The big show airs on Dec. 4th on MTV2.

Jay-Z Speaks on the Impact of ‘Watch The Throne’ with Steve Stoute

In support of his book The Tanning of America, Steve Stoute gave the Huffington post an exclusive clip from his interview with Jay-Z.

Check out part one of the exclusive interview above, featuring Jay-Z discussing the meaning of his joint album with Kanye West, Watch the Throne, which debuted at number one in 23 countries; on his epiphany that his music has a substantial impact on mainstream America; and on being an unpaid spokesman for Cristal champagne.

Jay also talks about the significance of the Hard Knock Life Tour. I would have stabbed somebody with a rusty screw driver back in the day for a ticket to go that tour. *sigh*

Excerpt from Chapter Two: “Hard Knock Life”

Yes, it’s true that in the past the idea of pushing brands would have been seen as inauthentic, or something you did after your career peaked, or as some kind of selling out. But no longer. Why not? Why wasn’t it selling out for rappers to embrace and promote Versace when it would have been seen that way for rock ‘n’ roll and R&B icons or pop superstars? Well, one reason, as we saw with “My Adidas,” was that it’s not a sellout when it’s authentic to your taste and style anyway and you’re already doing product placement for free. It was part of the art and far from selling out; Andy Warhol proved that when he painted iconic pop art portraits of products like Campbell’s soup cans, paying homage to one of the most classic, enduring American brands ever.

When I asked Jay-Z for his insights, he pointed out that many of the rock musicians had come from sustainable backgrounds, seeking acclaim for their talent and a level of cool that playing music gave them. For rappers coming out of the projects, getting paid and bettering yourself is part of gaining credibility. Jay reminded me also that it’s not selling out when a kid in the projects sees a guy rapping about Sprite or the Gap because they know he’ll be getting the money and that feeds his or her own aspiration. It’s not that being acknowledged for talent and great work isn’t desirable, but getting paid trumps those goals. I agree. I don’t think many hip-hop fans ever subscribed to the concept of selling out, not when you come from nothing and a deal can become part of your rags-to-riches success story.
