Kanye West Unveiling Ready To Wear Line At Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West will be returning to the runway’s next month. Following his in depth revelation of future ventures and a recent rumored move to Europe, the Louis Vuitton Don will debut his namesake collection during this year’s Paris Fashion Week. If you remember his runway debut last October wasn’t received so well with critics giving lukewarm feedback. Kanye’s PR agency, Karla Otto, confirms to WWD that West will make his return on Tuesday, March 6th at 9.30 p.m.

On Tuesday night, Kanye was a guest at a dinner hosted by designer Mark Fast. The invite-only event took place at Corinthia Hotel in London, check some of the pics up top including a cameo from Rita Ora.

D’Angelo’s still got it, as for the first time in 11 years the R&B Soul singer performed in concert earlier today. Shedding a lot of weight and looking in shape, D’Angelo kicked off his european tour at the Filadelfiakyrkan in Stockholm, Sweden. Today marking the 12-year anniversary of his Vodoo album, fans were treated to live renditions of past classics and were the first to hear upcoming new releases. Above, along with The Testimony, he debuts a new song titled “Sugar Daddy.”

Things I Like: FUN feat. Janelle Monae “We Are Young” (New Video)

Last September, I downloaded this pop song on the recommendation of Immaculate Infatuation or Broke Mogul I can’t remember, but it’s been on my “On-the-Go 4″ ipod playlist ever since. (That’s my standard gym/laundry/dogwalking playlist of reasonably melodic, sing-a-long-able, molly-ringwald-danceable, elliptical-friendly pop/rock/dance/rap jams.) I know nothing about Fueled By Ramen**, or how they came to enlist Janelle Monae for this somewhat negligible cameo, but I assumed ramen was a college reference not an Asian one. (**oops, the group is named Fun, the label is called Fueled by Ramen. Thank you reader Brandon)
Since then, “We Are Young” has been covered on Glee, the group has toured with Janelle, and the group name is now Fun. (I’m kind of confused about the name thing). And today Bill Werde from Billboard gave a heads up that there’s finally a video….Pretty standard kids breaking things in slow motion, but if you haven’t heard this song yet, it’s cute….and yes, “fun.”

Joe Budden’s Very Public Private Life: Trying To Get Tahiry Back On Youtube

Oh wow. As a friend of Joe Budden’s, I can’t believe I’m seeing him self-document and broadcast another deeply private conversation with ex-girlfriend Tahiry on youtube! Isn’t this one of the habits that led to their breakup two years ago?! Didn’t this opening up of a raw but one-sided view into their relationship magnify problems and invite the world to judge?

But on the other hand…it’s completely fascinating to hear Joe wonder out loud if he needs Tahiry back. And hear Tahiry emphatically argue that after all of his more recent relationship “displays”, Joe needs to court her. Not as the old thing he knows best, but as the real thing who deserves it more. They both insist to the audience that they are not currently intimate with each other.
Now if ever there was a subliminal apology, the fact that Joe gives Tahiry the platform to really be 100% in the right, own the entire exchange, make all the zingers, and score one for all under-appreciated ride-or-die chicks…on his youtube channel…is perhaps Joe’s way of saying, I’m sorry.

And aside from all the celebrity baggage, this is a very real and very funny conversation that we can all relate to.

Tahiry: Yeah you need to court me! Because you’re trying to get the old thing back! You come, you knock on my door, you hide under my bed, you pop up….
Joe: I do that because I love you as a person…but I’m in a state of uncertainty, as you are.

‘Dark Night Rises’, ‘Prometheus’, ‘The Dictator’ and More Movie Trailer Teases

I wish I had a wall-sized computer screen on which to watch the glorious action of this Dark Knight Rises movie trailer…It’s gorgeous and grim, and loaded with all the classic cues of a Christopher Nolan flick. Collapsing skylines, swallowing crevices, candlelit Marion Cotillard, and lots and lots of staircases. But even if much of the cast in Batman Wears Prada While Bronson Blows Up His Dream State seems familiar, I can’t wait to see how the movie incorporates the ideas of Occupy Wall Street into the storyline of absolute power corruption….Oh hay, 1%.

Oh, who am I kidding, all I care about is BANE.

Now along with the Dark Knight Rises trailer, there were other solid teases to keep film fans salivating for 2012…

1) Prometheus trailer…of a trailer: What do we learn about Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel?
2) Wrath of the Titans trailer: More Perseus, more sandals, and super gnarly looking Titans!
3) The Dictator: Sasha Baron Cohen’s new spoof looks amazing….ly offensive!

1) Ridley Scott, director of that masterpiece Alien, says his Prometheus movie isn’t exactly an Alien prequel. But all the nerds refuse to believe him. The OG girl with the dragon tatt aka Noomi Rapace will be there, so will Stringer Bell aka Idris Elba, and Michael Fassbender, who is quickly monopolizing every serious leading man role in Hollywood. Sucks for you, Timberlake ; ) Prometheus is out June 2012.

2) I actually liked Clash of the Titans, the 300-edition. It was cheesy, but fun, looked great, and I could watch it while shopping online without really missing much. Avatar’s Sam Worthington is back, with a curlier hairdo. But is it odd that he sucks in any movie where he wears normal pants? Anyways, I like this siamese twin Titan monster, and I always love Liam Neeson and Voldermort. Wrath of the Titans is out March 2012.

3) Borat was incredibly uncomfortable and hilarious. Bruno was just uncomfortable. But Sasha Baron Cohen’s new movie The Dictator looks fantastic! And not just because I’m a sucker for brutal Kardashian jabs. It’s timely stuff, and knowing Cohen’s past Ali G work…I’m expecting a lot of “it’s funny because it’s true.” The Dictator comes out Summer 2012, and has a twitter: RepublicWadiya.

Cats with Thumbs…and More ‘Best Ads of 2011′

I feel ashamed that missinfo.tv’s first cat video is a commercial, but this literally made me laugh out loud today so…that’s reason enough to share. Not to mention, this British milk advertisement (created by Wieden-Kennedy, where we have many friends) was named #8 on Adweek’s Best Ads of 2011.

Best moment? The cat west-side-story gang, of course.

There are some other amazing ad-gems on this ‘Best of’ list….some we’ve seen before. But this one French talking bear-rug commercial…Totally Fantastic!

Adweek named that Eminem x Chrysler ad as the #3 ad of the year. I get it, it was very emotive. But a bit overhyped. They also loved the Google Chrome “Dear Sophie” ad, which features a Korean dad writing a letter to his insanely adorable newborn daughter and documenting her growth. Full admission: I cried when I first saw this on TV. Who didn’t? You’re a zombie then!

Number #1 on the Best of 2011 list was that cute Volkswagon ad with the kid in the Darth Vader costume…it played during the Superbowl, remember? But here were my favorites from the Adweek list:

#6 totally blew my mind…I love this! French movie channel Canal+ and their talking bear rug. “I don’t give a shiiiiit!” This rug deserves an Oscar! Or at the very least, a Dundy!!

#9 on the list: A very clever way of making a point about the advantages of the all-electric Nissan Leaf car.

#2 is Chipotle’s long-form ad promotes their policy of using veggies and meat from local farms. I didn’t even realize they did that. But this succeeds in making me want to give them my business. Chipotle also enlisted Willie Nelson to cover Coldplay which is a little depresso, but it’s for a good cause.

Can you believe Young Jeezy has been sitting on this gem for almost two years! It’s a miracle that he managed to keep this unhacked. Jeezy’s TM103 drops on Dec 20. Props to Funk Flex for the debut!

Drake in ‘Complex’: Lavender-Scented Showers, Secret Thug Truces, and Youth

I love this Drake x Complex cover image! So classy! This riff on vintage Blue Note jazz record covers stands out, especially in comparison to the plague of pop culture magazines who, with their last breaths, hope to grab eyes instead of also minds. Anyways, that’s just me being a cover snob. But I do like this alot, props to Egotripland’s Brent Rollins, NCB et al.

I started jotting down my thoughts about Drake’s Take Care album after digesting it over the weekend, and now after reading Damien Scott’s cover story on Drake, I’m having the same reaction to both. In both cases, we have to dodge this pendulum that swings from thug-posturing to emo-sniffling just get to the thoughtful and very sharp artist behind it.

At one moment, Drake is realizing his dream of having a spa shower installed at home:

“It’s a shower that’s lit by all LED lights,” he explains. “It has 10 jets, an overhead, and it sprays out lavender or whatever scents you want. It’s something I’ve always wanted.”

The next moment, Drake is cracking his knuckles in a pair of baggy OJ Simpson gloves:

“I’m ready for whatever,” he says. “I don’t give a fuck. I want to move through life in the most non-confrontational way possible, but I’m not a pussy. Don’t ever get that mixed up.”

It’s both the most absurd and most entertaining part about Drake, the celebrity.

Another interesting aspect of Scott’s visit to Toronto is the insight into how Drake and OVO feel responsible for their hometown. Even a fleeting moment in Drake’s “Headlines” video was actually a meaningful show of solidarity between guys from rival Toronto neighborhoods, Malvern and Galloway.
But when Scott asks Drake about the traded subliminal between Team Kanye x Jay-Z x Pusha-T and Team Weezy x Baby x Drake….and the answer is diplomatic, non-committal, but with just enough attitude-sauce to show that Drake isn’t bending at the waist:

When he dropped “Dreams” last May, he ruffled feathers with the line “I feel like it went from top five to remaining five/My favorite rappers either lost it or they ain’t alive.” ….

“It wasn’t meant to be a shot at the five rappers that I love,” he says. “I’ve never even sat down and pieced together a top five before. I just feel like I’m really good right now. And I’ve never felt like that before. I’ve always felt reluctant to say anything like that, but I’m very confident in these new raps that I’m about to give the world”

and…

Still, Drake does his best to remain diplomatic—sort of. “Rapping is about being young and doing your thing and being fly,” he says—the implication being that if older rappers catch feelings, so be it. “I’m sure people took it** that way and that’s good, man. That’s great. Wake the fuck up. I hope it makes you go harder. I hope it makes you get mad at me and write a song with me in mind. I hope Kanye’s verse on ‘Otis’ was with that** in mind. Everyone tried to tell me ‘Oh Jay is going at you.’ I don’t hear it, but I hope it was man, that song is fucking incredible. Making each other go harder, that’s what this shit is about.”

LOL. So in 2012, if the war of words graduates from unmanned drones to naming names, will we really be fighting in the name of the Rap Age Limit? It’s been tried before. But time has an annoying way of flying.

Nas Duets With the Late Amy Winehouse on “Like Smoke” (Hot97 Premiere)

A bittersweet treat. My Hot97 family got the scoop on this new Amy Winehouse x Nas song, “Like Smoke” which posthumously fulfills the late singer’s wish to collaborate with her friend “Mr. Jones”. It’s a gorgeous retro-soul track, in typical Winehouse style and produced by Salaam Remi back in 2008. “Like Smoke” is the lead single off Lioness: Hidden Treasures, a collection of songs Amy recorded before her death this past July.
