Always repping his hometown and giving back, Drake is now playing a part in developing potential future basketball stars. On Wednesday (Jan. 17), the 6 God and Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri attended a press conference at the Air Canada Centre to announce the Welcome Toronto program, in partnership with the Canadian NBA franchise. Giving back to the city and the game of basketball in Toronto, the partnership will see the Raptors host a total of six ‘Welcome Toronto’ and OVO-themed home games this season, where the team will wear their new black and gold OVO-edition uniforms and home court this season. Drake and the Raptors are also donating $1 million to refurbish local community basketball courts and another $2 million to Canada Basketball, to help the development of potential future stars.

As this team and Toronto continues to grow, we have seen how much we can do together,” said Drake, who serves as the Global Ambassador for his hometown team. “Welcome Toronto is about celebrating our team and our city, but also working together to give back to the community and creating a place where the youth of our city can come together to play. These same courts could also potentially shape the next generation of Canadian basketball superstars.”

Justin Timberlake has been announced as the headliner for Pepsi’s Super Bowl LII halftime show next year. Revealed on NBC’s broadcast of Sunday Night Football before kickoff between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. The pop star also made his own announcement, in a quick 21-second skit with long-time friend Jimmy Fallon. It will be the 36-year old’s return to the Super Bowl half time show since his infamous 2004 performance with Janet Jackson. Dubbed “Nipplegate.” While doing the song “Rock Your Body” with Janet Jackson 13 years ago, the pair ended their set with Justin pulling off a part of Jackson’s costume, revealing her right breast. After huge backlash in the media and the NFL condeming the performance, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) implemented a five-second delay during live TV performances thereafter.

Returning for a second time, Timberlake joins an iconic list of past performers that include Michael Jackson, Madonna, Diana Ross, Prince, U2, The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Coldplay and last year’s performer Lady Gaga. The 2018 NFL Super Bowl takes place on February 4, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Justine Skye was tapped to sing the U.S. National Anthem at the Brooklyn Nets’ home opener at Barclays Center on Friday night (Oct. 20). Skye, a Brooklyn native, used the moment to make a statement. Towards the end of singing the “Star Spangled Banner,” the brave 22-year-old kneeled while finishing her performance, showing support and solidarity for athletes who have been doing the same to shed light on brutality and racial injustice in America.

Got a bit shaky at the end.. was pretty uneasy about singing the anthem and probably won’t ever be invited to sing it again but I had to take a knee for the opening game in my city and let my voice be heard,” said Skye in an Instagram post of her kneeling. “We will not be silenced ✊🏾 #blacklivesmatter.” Players on the Brooklyn Nets reportedly locked arms as the Roc Nation songstress sung the anthem. “We recognize that tonight’s national anthem singer kneeled briefly at the end of her performance and we were not aware that she was going to do so,” a spokesperson for the Nets said in a statement sent to ABC.
