While details are still coming in regarding the tragic, shocking and unfortunate death of the great Whitney Houston, many celebrities have taken to Twitter to express shock and their condolences to one of the greatest voices of our time.

Oh God, why? I’m not against all rehashing of the past to lure both grownup dollars and youngun dollars…but can the vintage Larry, Curly, Moe slapstick of the original Three Stooges franchise translate to 2012? Sean Hayes (Will and Grace), Chris Diamantopoulos (um…24?) and Will Sasso (MAD TV) definitely look the part, but there’s a veneer of cheese that makes this trailer look like it should just be left as a MAD TV skit, or a Funny or Die webisode. I think it makes sense that the Farrelly Brothers are directing, since they’ve carried the torch for slapstick comedy. And I loved The Farrelly’s Something About Mary, and Me Myself and Irene…but they’ve since then it’s been bombs like Shallow Hal, The Ringer and that awful awful Hall Pass. I’m sure this new Stooge will be chock full of celebrity cameos when it drops in April 2012, in fact the last part of the trailer with Jersey Shore’s J-Woww, Snooki and Sammi is the only funny bit, but did this need to be a full movie? Can’t the universe (aka Hollywood) just focus all it’s Scientology prayers on Zoolander 2?

Oh, speaking of Snooki and Company….the new trailer for MTV’s Jersey Shore Season 5 just dropped as well. It is surprisingly trauma free. That’s odd. Shouldn’t there be an unplanned pregnancy, a drug overdose, and a hilarious Situation vs. His Dad fistfight?

Grand Theft Auto V is going back to Cali….er, “San Andreas”. I can’t believe it’s been over 3 years since Rockstar Games blanketed us with Grand Theft Auto IV promotion….and if you remember, since that game was set in an almost-real New York City (aka Liberty City), we got everything from customized Mr. Cee radio stations, to exclusive Busta Rhymes x Green Lantern tracks, to inter-borough multi-ethnic crime sprees. Good times.

This morning, Rockstar dropped the trailer for GTA V, confirming that the endless driving missions and salty dialogue is going back to Los Angeles, California (aka Los Santos, San Andreas). In the brief clip, you see the LA smog, the skid-row homeless, some warm fuzzy crop-dusting over migrant workers, the Venice boardwalk, and, of course, some celeb-hiking up in Runyon Canyon. (But what’s with the oil rig? Is there black gold hidden in the Hollywood Hills? UPDATE: Holy crap! Thanks Jazzbeezy.) Oh and if you don’t already know from in GTA, the Hollywood sign says Vinewood, which sounds decidedly less glamorous)

I definitely enjoyed the insanely detailed gameplay in GTA IV, but something about driving and mission-based videogames gets tedious to me. I can’t wait to see all the extra music, video, and web content that is sure to come with this new edition though. That’s definitely where Rockstar shines.

Do you think they’ll have Pac Div, Lil B’ radio stations? I predict lots of paparazzi chase scenes, and a full TMZ-branded news ticker.

Egotripland’s Chairman Mao dug up his 1997 Source Magazine interview with Notorious BIG, which would be his last in the magazine. (Read it here) I love Mao’s sharp memory, as he shares behind-the-scenes details like:

“The first night I showed up at the Daddy’s House Studios to interview B.I.G. he wasn’t there. Instead I got to watch Sean Combs in the studio’s main room playing hit-maker drill sergeant, seated behind the boards instructing some female back-up vocalists (hidden somewhere in the dark of the booth) exactly how he wanted them to enunciate the refrain, “He told you he won’t stop/ He told you HE won’t stop.” I swear I could not tell you the difference between how those girls were saying the line and how Puffy was directing them to say it, tho obviously he had something really specific in mind. This is totally random but I had to discuss this on “Celebrity Drama” tonite, and share the visual on the blog. Vybz Kartel….wha’happend? and whycome? Just as I was confusicated by Sammy Sosa’ highly un-Porcelana skin transformation, I’m equally as baffled by dancehall star Vybz Kartel’s need to look like he’s working at a haunted house, all year round. Add to the skin bleaching, some jailhouse tattoos…and the whole thing is crazyface.

While Sammy just copped some plea about how he suffered the skintone change after a “cleansing” treatment gone wrong….Vybz Kartel is way more bully about the whole thing. He says, “This is my new image…You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It’s tantamount to white people getting a sun tan.”

Um, is it really “tantamount”, Vybz? Or is it….crazyface.
Since Vybz also launched his own brand of soap which he credits with this reverse-suntan…I’m leaning towards the latter.

Club Perfections has a moment of silence for Huddy. That was where Hud and Cam were on the night when he passed away. (via Popvizion)

On Tuesday night, Cam’ron and Huddy Combs (Andre Hudson) were at Perfections with DJ Camilo (who took this twitpic with his phone). Just a few hours later, Huddy was driving home, crossing the George Washington Bridge to New Jersey, when his car collided with a truck, killing him and injuring a female relative in the car (via Daily News, MTVNews, Associated Press).

All day I’ve had a heavy heart. It’s hard to quantify Huddy’s contribution to the Harlem social scene, to the music game, and to the Diplomats team, but there’s no way to underestimate it either. He was the glue that held so much together.

I remember the days when Killa Cam first signed to Untertainment, Murda Mase was the future of Bad Boy, there was talk of a new Harlem renaissance, and Huddy was right in the middle of it. He was with Cam every day at the Hit Factory, he was on the road with Mase, he was even in Mase’s shortlived offshoot group Harlem World (with Loon, Meeno, Stace, and Suga J). There wasn’t enough Huddy to go around. Everyone that met him, loved him. He elevated the mood in every room, and was able to relate to anyone….

…The homie Nigel told me that back when Shyne used to come around to kick it with Mase, him and Huddy teased Shyne for dressing like a flashy drug dealer, i.e. Alpo, so they named him Shyne Po. Just Blaze recalled that Huddy played a part in creating his stagename too back when Just produced for Harlem World. And it was Huddy who was riding shotgun in the blue Lambo when Cam got shot in Washington D.C., and who helped him get to the hospital.  Me, I’ll never forget how warm and protective he was to me from day I met him during the making of Confessions of Fire…he never changed over the years…we might bump into each other in a club, or on the street….Huddy always had a hug and a new hustle to share.

Today there were tons of condolences on twitter from Huddy’s friends and family…including Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Raekwon, Freeky Zekey, Juelz Santana, Duke Da God, all of Huddy’s music industry friends, and those in the nightclub scene, where Hud was a promoter. (The last time I spoke to him he told me he was opening his own club in Harlem, which seemed like the perfect fit for such a natural host.) But Cam’s silence speaks volumes about the pain that I’m sure he’s feeling right now. This is a year of renewal for Cam; the Dipset reunion, a new record deal, and new energy from Vado…all progress that Huddy was meant to be a part of. Not to mention, Huddy’s younger brother, Mikey Young 6, was part of the crew too and good friends with Vado and Jae Millz. So to lose him in a crash on the same bridge where Cam and Mase’s original Children of the Corn partner Bloodshed passed back in the 90’s….is just too cruel.

It’s a shame that we need days like this to appreciate the people we take for granted.
But the alternative is this: Sitting here, looking at old photos…and wishing that I had one more chance to reminisce with Huddy about that golden time of our lives and thank him for his friendship.
