Miss Info Celeb Drama Report

Kevin Leone, the same director who brought A Raisin In The Sun to Broadway, is working on a 2Pac musical for Broadway. He calls it a “unconditional love story,” and an “anti-violence story” that based on Pac’s music. It is not a autobiographical production. Casting has already begun for the play tentatively titled Holler If Ya Hear Me.

“Some people look at hip-hop and they think they hate everything black or they think they hate everything that uses profanity, or they think it’s about gun violence,” Leon said, calling Tupac a “prophet.”

“When you look at the lyrics of his music, he was always talking about universal things like honor, betrayal, family,” Leon said.

Icona Pop Says They Were Thinking of Tupac When They Recorded “Girlfriend”

Ever since we started hearing about the Rihanna x Chris romantic reunion and remix duets….there has been loud debate about whether Chris Brown deserves redemption. From a legal standpoint he’s earned it: fulfilling all his court-mandated counseling and community service, etc. But from a personal standpoint, there seems to be some persistent behavior that is cause for concern. I guess all the scrutiny and the vocal criticism would be stressful for anyone. But Chris’ reaction to that pressure is the achilles heel that keeps wearing away at his image. There are his tweet ragers, and his Good Morning America ragers, and his back-n-forth arguments with wrestlers and country singers.

And now there’s Christal Spann, a 24-year-old woman in Miami who claims that she took a photo of Chris and Tyga as they left Club Cameo on Sunday night. When Chris spotted her, she alleges that he snatched her iphone out of her hands, said, “Bitch, you’re not gonna put that on no websites,” and drove off.

Was a photo of him with Tyga that important to keep off the internets? If it were Chris, leaving with Rihanna, I would maybe understand his paranoia. But there are so many photos of CB with Tyga out in the world. Also, why not just take the 2 seconds to erase the photo and then hand back the woman’s phone? Am I being too rational? Yes. I was probably being too rational on “Celebrity Drama” last night too.

After the jump

(hilarious video mash-up thanks to Ted Smooth)

While Jay-Z has been promoting Blueprint 3 in Europe, and doing many and various appearances (rapping to yodelers on German TV, talking to French reporters, eating at the rich and famous versions of franchise food)…he still took time to call my homie Angie Martinez to shut down Lil’ Mama directly.

In this short excerpt, Hov restrains himself and says that yes, Lil Mama’s brazen attempt to go where she did not belong…miffed him.

I would never have the nerve to do that.. I thought it was the equivalant to what Kanye did to Taylor Swift… I was a little angry, yeah. But what I’ma do, fight Lil Mama?

[audio:Jayz on Lil Mama with Angie.mp3]

You can hear the rest of Jay-Z’s phonecall here, they talk about his #1 album, and his champagne investment (Ace of Spades) ranking, etc…

Speaking of reactions to Lil Mama-Gate….here is my “What Grinds My Gears” episode of Celebrity Drama reacting to Lil Mama’s lame excuse/apology…the best part were Funkmaster Flex and Tat Wza’s reactions! LOL

Gucci at video w girls

(Gucci Mane and friendlies on set at the “Breakin’ Up” shoot today)

On Monday night, Young Jeezy leaked a new record, “24-23,” aimed directly at his longtime Atlanta rival Gucci Mane, and Gucci’s newly popular protege, OJ da Juiceman. Ever since, fans on both sides have been staunchly divided, but we can all agree that with Jeezy, Gucci and OJ all booked to perform on the same bill on Friday in North Carolina, and on Saturday at Atlanta’s biggest hip hop concert event, The Birthday Bash. Tension is on high….but you surely can’t tell by Gucci Mane’s mood.
Today, he was on set with singer Mario and Sean Garrett shooting a video for their collaboration “Breakin’ Up.” And while Mariah Carey was sending out her “Obsessed” remix featuring Gucci (what the wha!), your girl Info caught up with Mr. La Flare for his reaction to old beefs back on the grill…

Interview quotes after the jump…and footage of Jeezy playing “24-23” at Atlanta’s Velvet Room club last night….

Mikey: In the midst of upgrading servers, these vids were deleted from a previous post. But here they are again, watch as Info gets some fashion checks and autotune opinions from some this years Summer Jam 09′ headliners.

So there have been reports around the internets on some reputable sites, citing sources within TI’s camp who claim that before TI turned himself in on Tuesday, he tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Tiny.

According to Tiny, that is not true. She and TI are not married.

(but on a related note….I can not wait for the Tiny and Toya reality show, premiering June 30 on BET (Necole Bitchie has more deets). Can Not Wait. I’m already a well-documented Tiny-fan. Not sold yet on Toya, who is Lil Wayne’s ex-wife and mom of his daughter Reginae…but I’m sure she’ll add to the sensationalism.)

As I mentioned on Celebrity Drama tonite…the fact that Page 6 would be able to i.d. Drake smells to me like they were tipped off by a savvy insider…perhaps from within Rihanna’s camp? If this is true, that is. But aside from that I think they’d make a cute couple…and that girl definitely knows how to stay hot. Case in point, the fact that its now coming out how she and Shia LaBeouf totally went out on a date that sounds like it was more about screentests-n-brandmergers than cupid-n-pheromones.

*And who is the Turtle, and who is the Hare? Ah Ha! : )

The buddies at XXL opine on this week’s sales race. Asher does have one day longer than Rick. Rick has a longer-standing brand and huge features on his album. Asher has that much-coveted young mass audience (see the frenzy at his MTV spring break appearances). Hmmm.

Unrelated/related: I heard a kind of strange rumor about one of these guys’ label in the middle of the night, after I left the Asher Roth release party (which was very Lambda Kappa Psi, in a good way, except for the door guy….”Miss Info? You work for Hot97? What do you do there? Hmm. Fine, you can go in.” lol). Movement there, but I’m not sure why, especially given the success that their new project is having right now. hmmm.

Jim Jones on tonite’s Funk Flex show…..

“I’ve been selfish in a lot of ways in this past year…but its not all about me, there’s alot of other people involved….for the most part, me and Flea came up together for a long time…so I’m just extending my hand to the contribution of getting this Diplomat business done. So if Cam is listening, maybe we can sit down and get some business together and…give the people what they want.”

Call it record-release-day chess, call it what you want….as long as its out there in the universe, maybe the next step, and the next 10 steps can happen : )

(photos of Jim Jones taken hours after the Detroit altercation)

Last night, there were alot of rumors of a brawl involving Jim Jones at Detroit’s Club Esko….
There were rumors that a gang of people rushed the stage, beat up Jim Jones, shot 3 people, including one of Jim’s friends and a woman partygoer. (twitter accounts posted after the jump)

Well this week me and DJ Envy are covering for a vacationing Ciph and Rosenberg on the morning show, so I asked Jim Jones about last night’s drama directly….

Jim Jones speaks on the altercation at Club Esko in Detroit

[audio:jim jones news break.mp3]

Here’s a link to the Detroit news report which infers that one of the shooting victims was local artist, Trick Trick.

“Detroit police said 2 people were injured in a shooting at a Detroit nightclub early Monday morning.
Ten men rushed the Esko Lounge on Michigan Avenue near Shelby Street, according to Detroit police. The men got into a fight with rapper Jim Jones and shots were fired.
Two men were hit, including a man police identified as…rapper Trick-Trick, whose real name is Christian Mathis…
Local 4 confirmed Mathis was taken to the emergency room at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He is in serious condition. The other man’s condition is unknown.
Police are looking for the gunman.”

Thank you to the sharp-eyed readers like Kaoz who sent over this report from Detroit’s Mojo 955….Trick Trick denying that he was shot last night.

“We called Trick-Trick, he was NOT shot. In fact, we woke him up and talked to him in bed. He denied rumors that he fell victim to gun shots, nor was it his brother. The rappers mother called WDIV-TV asking them to stop running the story.”
