BET Bans Nicki Minaj’s “Stupid H*e” Video?

TMZ has learned from a BET rep that the network has banned Nicki Minaj’s “Stupid H*e” video. The rep wasn’t able to give any details on exactly why BET is refusing to play the video but the lyrics alone may be the reason (though there is the edited version). Visually, I don’t feel like it’s over the top but I can see why the station might not want the 106 & Park going around screaming “Stupid H*e,” especially because it’s Black History Month. For now, we’ll just have to wait for further comment from BET and Nicki.

Drake Tells Nahright: Common’s Beef Isn’t Hip Hop, It’s Publicity

Let us quickly recap the season of Common vs. Drake Beef thus far:

Common dates Serena Williams. Drake dates Serena Williams. Common is down with Kanye. Drake is down with Young Money. Common spits subliminals at Drake on “Sweet.” Drake makes subliminal outburst onstage in Cali. Common admits to Drake subliminal disses on the song “Sweet”. Drake spits subliminal lyrics in “Stay Scheming.” Common disses Drake by name on “Stay Scheming” remake. Common tells interviewers the beef is just normal “hip hop competitiveness” and that he’s done….

But does Drake see this as just rap battling? Will there be a rebuttal? Nahright’s Nation (a liner-noted friend of Drake’s) got an exclusive comment from Drake on the set of “The Zone” video:

Nation: So people want to know: will you respond to Common?
Drake: No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a “hip hop moment” or a “battle for the sake of musical integrity”…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.

Oh. Dang.

While everyone was analyzing Drake’s subliminals towards Common on Rick Ross’ song “Stay Schemin’”….the line that turned into a meme was about Kobe Bryant’s expensive split with his now ex-wife Vanessa.

Kobe, my n—a I hate it had to be him
Bitch, you wasn’t with me shooting in the gym
(Bitch, you wasn’t with me shooting in the gym)

Vanessa ended up with 75 M’s not 150, but she certainly earned more from her time as “good wife” than she ever would have….as a video extra which is what she was when she met Kobe. However…I’d say a more relevant rap line might be: “Bitch, I must have had a mild concussion when I refused legal counsel and the pleas from my family when I passed on a pre-nup….”
Nation asked Drake about the line, and he chalked it up to….sucks to be you, won’t be me.

Nation: There’s a line from your “Stay Schemin” verse about Kobe’s soon to be ex-wife Vanessa that has gotten some negative attention. Can you speak to what you were trying to express with that line?
Drake: That line came from a conversation about being this young and making this much money and the fear of losing it all. I just used his potential situation to address my own life. I never intended to offend Vanessa or anyone else. That line had everything to do with me and what goes on in my head as a 25 year old man with this much income flowing in. Kobe is and always will be a friend and an icon to me.

Shyne Says He Has Reconciled With Diddy: “We Gon’ Get Together in Paris”

Shyne told MTV News in what looks like a skype-call…that he felt some regret about how his relationship with Diddy went up in flames after the two former buddies were tried separately for the 1999 shooting at Club New York. He said he also had a dream about Anthony “Wolf” Jones (Diddy’s longtime bodyguard who was killed in 2003 in Atlanta during a dispute with the BMF). So Shyne says he called Diddy recently and reconciled. Not only that, but the man that Shyne waged many a character attack on, is allegedly going to sit down with Shyne in person….in Paris, where he’s living.

“For me, the conversation was a confirmation of what I felt. Son kept it super tall, and that’s what it’s about. When a man says, ‘Listen, as a man, I make mistakes and I own that.’ What could you do?”

Well, peace is always preferable to war, but for anyone who has followed this relationship, this is all kinds of surprising. Especially Shyne’s reveal that Diddy reached out to him in prison, and offered his help. Remember when he said that any conversation with Diddy was “a figment of his imagination”?

Common Claims Drake Battle Is Really Just About Competitive Hip-Hop

Wherever Common goes he’s forced to talk about his current “rap battle” with Drake. At this point, he pretty much says the same thing every time. I guess we were a little thrown off about the seriousness of this “beef” when Comm responded to Drake quite viciously on his “Stay Schemin’” freestyle. However, in his most recent explanation of how their feud originated, the veteran downplays their issues being personal.

“The Song Sweet– for me I was really talking about hip-hop. A lot of the softer side of hip-hop is being used as an example of what people think hip-hop is. You can express yourself in many different ways, but I just miss that hardcore, raw hip-hop sound,” Common told VIBE’s Datwon Thomas on DJ Premier’s Hip-Hop Nation show.

Common did admit that he felt like Drake was responding to him at the Cali Christmas show. Ultimately, Comm says this battle is really just about being competitive in hip-hop. He alludes to the fact that he’s really doing this for sport and doesn’t seeing it turning into a real street beef.

oh my god, I can’t breathe. Really what’s awesome about the “beef” between Common and Drake is that we have two artists who have similarly “diverse” attributes and career experiences, similar achilles ankles, and are both very talented. Common obviously has more hip hop history to draw from, and Drake obviously has youthful buzz. But you don’t get the sense that (even if the seeds of this beef are personal) anything truly ignorant or destructive will happen here.
What will happen though…is amazing parody. Like the Egotrip list of possible Common x Drake duets…

Amber Rose Invades Hot97’s Morning Show and Funkmaster Flex

Apparently Kim K is not a home wrecker anymore. Wearing an exotic, fur lined viking hat and typical shades, Amber Rose stopped by Hot 97’s morning show with Ciph, Rosenberg, and K. Foxxx to further clarify the accusations that she made about Kim Kardashian and Kanye .With her recently released single, Amber reiterated that she’s about “woman empowerment” and regrets calling Kim a home wrecker and does not “want to stoop down to her level for calling her names”. However, Amber confirmed that the claims she made in the Star Magazine interview is very true.

Amber also sat down with Funk Flex to talk about her childhood and her upcoming projects. She reveals that she has another single releasing called, “Load It” and has a clothing collection be released in Fall 2012.

Common Unleashes New Drake Diss: “You A B–ch”

The “beef” between Drake and Common just got turned up another notch this morning. At the start of 2011, we saw the rap vet and the Young Money rapper get locked into a battle of subliminal jabs. Initially, Comm set it off by calling out Drizzy on “Sweet” and then confirming his shots in an interview with Sway. It wasn’t until last Friday where we heard Drake fire back with his own subliminal disses on Ross’ “Stay Schemin.”

“I just ask that when you see me, you speak up ni–a that’s all/Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothing. It’s feeling like rap changed, it was a time it was rugged/Back when if a ni–a reached it was for the weapon, nowadays ni–as reach just to sell they record.”

Common wasted no time in firing right back and making this battle official. On the newly released freestyle Chi-Town’s finest raps over “Stay Schemin” (via MTV RapFix)

Amber Rose Thanks Kim Kardashian For Causing Her Kanye West Breakup (UPDATE)

….and the gloves are off! According to Radar, Amber Rose told Star Magazine directly that Kim Kardashian is the reason why she and Kanye split up. It’s been a year and a half since their breakup, but time gives ex-lovers just enough distance to start saying how they really feel, right?

Radar reports that their sister publication (the oft unreliable) Star interviewed Amber Rose. This seems like an odd choice for Amber, but they directly quote her as saying:

“Kim is one of the main reasons why me and Kanye are not together,” Amber exclusively told Star. “She’s a homewrecker!”

“[Kanye and Kim] were both cheating,” Amber, 28, said. “They were both cheating on me and Reggie [Bush] with each other.”

Amber says it was Kim, 31, who instigated the whole affair by calling, texting and sending racy photos of herself to Kanye.
“She was sending pictures, and I was like, ‘Kim, just stop. Don’t be that person,’” but apparently Kim didn’t care enough to respond when Amber emailed her for an explanation.

Amber goes on to “thank” Kim for pushing her into the arms of Wiz Khalifa. (Read after the jump)
But she also returned the favor by having that brief fling with Reggie remember? I have been hearing about the Kanye x Kim connection for years, long before he was spotted more publicly at her birthday cruise in August 2010. So it was amusing to see Amber show up with Reggie at an Espy’s afterparty. I guess it’s all front and center now.

Common Confirms He Dissed Drake on “Sweet”…Butt, Is This Really About Serena Williams??

Though he touched on this yesterday, Common confirmed this morning his The Dreamer, The Believer song “Sweet” is directed at Drake.
Specifically, this chorus:
“Y’all n—as man, you soft m—-f—kers. Yeah my man, m—-f—ker. Then come around my crib. You know where I’m from. Some ho ass n—as. Singing all around me man, la la la! You ain’t m—-f—king Frank Sinatra. Uh, lil’ bitch. Yeah, this the raw right here! This the raw right here n—a. Sweet m—-f—ker! Sweet ass bitch muthafucka!”

Seeing as how Drake channeled Sinatra all over our TVs this past August, it seemed pretty clear that line was about him. So here’s what Common told Sway this morning on Shade45.

Sway: So you’re inviting Drake into battle…
Common: Aye, he opened his mouth and said some things*, so if that’s what he wants. All that sublimal, you might as well say it now….
The verse is about me, but when you hear some of the stuff on the chorus, you can’t help but think about dude, I guess. And that’s what he felt. So yeah. At the end of the day, you fit in that category. He already embraced it, so wear it.

Common: He’s a very successful artist obviously. He’s a very talented artist too, I give credit where it’s due….but any artist can be a target…it’s just about mc-ing, when you step in there, you in the ring, baby. Especially if you say you’re the greatest. I’m on “Sweet” saying I’m the greatest too…

BUTT…..seriously, what else could be BEHIND this beef?

Meanwhile, the twitter CSI squads are gathering forensics on an allegedly deleted tweet from Drake…that read: “Platinum. Now That’s SWEET!” Most folks say that tweet is fake.

What’s not fake is Drake’s producer Noah “40″ Shebib’s tweets:

Hmm. There is much irony in this argument. And any argument about Common not being hip hop is absurd. Even more so than a similar Drake argument (which I also think is absurd). Common has no singing voice to speak of.

Maybe all the rap cats and R&B cats could agree on something if they just noticed the 800lbs buttcheeks in the room; )

LOL. I’m surprised by all this because Common is literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. So just hearing him matter of fact-ly talk trash is fun. But whether you feel like his motives are right or wrong, or his personal style is softer than Drake’s…you can’t dismiss Common’s battle-tested lyrical skill.

Travesty! Police Say Slim Dunkin Was Murdered Over Stolen Candy…and the Murderer is Still At Large

What an awful low point to end 2011 with….Police in Atlanta are still trying to track down the man who shot and killed Bricksquad rapper Slim Dunkin this past Friday. Slim had just recently shot a video with his longtime friend Waka Flocka, Jadakiss and Styles P, and he was featured on Gucci Mane and V-Nasty’s BAYTL EP. But the events leading up to his death are increasingly disturbing.
According to homicide detective, David Quinn:

“The victim, Mario Hamilton, known as Slim Dunkin,….according to witnesses, someone came into this room, struck him and a fight ensued. The information we’re getting, it’s unconfirmed, but witnesses are saying this whole thing started over a piece of candy….“

It’s naive to reduce the entire motive to candy. Obviously, this is about pride, jealousy, possession, posturing in front of others, and so many other machismo elements that cause trivial things to spark unthinkable violence.
But for a piece of candy to be the catalyst for hate like this…in a studio filled with folks who could have stepped in with voices of reason (or how about stepping up in the past 4 days with information?!)….just every thing about this is a disgusting shameful tragedy.

MTV News reports that there will be a public viewing for Slim Dunkin’s friends, family and fans:

Slim Dunkin (Mario Hamilton), a 24 year old Brick Squad artist, appeared on his friend Waka Flocka’s Flockaveli album, as well as Gucci Mane and Waka’s Ferrari Boyz album and Gucci Mane and V-Nasty’s BAYTL EP. Most recently, he shot a video for the “Lightz On” (Remix) with Waka, Jadakiss and Styles P.

The Associated Press interviewed Atlanta Police Major Keith Meadows:

“It appears the victim was scheduled to do a photo shoot,” Meadows told The Associated Press. “Before the video shoot took place, it appears the victim and suspect got involved in a verbal altercation. We don’t know what that altercation was about.”

“The suspect produced a weapon, discharged that handgun one time, striking the victim in the chest,” Meadows said.

The performer was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meadows said police have not been able to identify the shooter. He said 13 to 20 people were in the small office-type building at the time of the shooting, which took place around 5:30 p.m. local time, but they were in different places.
