Cardi B made history on Monday (Sept. 25) when her “Bodak Yellow” single landed No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The accomplishment, a first for a female solo rap artist since Lauryn Hill in 1998, was praised by many of Cardi’s peers including Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, Migos. Azealia Banks had a different agenda, calling the Bronx rapper a “poor mans Nicki [Minaj]” in a now deleted Twitter rant.

Continue after the jump….

“She’s only black when black want to include themselves in a success story,” said Banks, responding to person who brought up that Cardi B is black. “Because I thought she was going to be a Latina hottie and not a poor mans nicki. It went the other way now I’m over it,” she continued. “Charlemagne and black men in hiphop should have gotten me, remy AND nicki a number one before they gave cardi or iggy one,” she later tweeted.

But literally white guys buy black men away from black women and it’s soo cringe. I’m sorry. Black industry men are too hype for this Latina girl I’ve never seen them jump like this for remy or nicki. Spinning this ‘for the culture’ story when they are simply letting white men at Atlantic buy them into hating their own women.”

Deciding not to get into a war of words, Bardi decided to respond on Tuesday night (Sept. 26) by posting a video on her Instagram account. In the clip, Banks is seen in a club getting hype and rapping the words to Cardi’s smash-hit. “One of the reasons Bodak Yellow went #1! Cuz even the HATERS love it!,” says Bardi in the video’s caption.
