Last night, Bun B gathered a few friends for his Religion and Hip Hop Culture Class at Rice University. The panel included Malice of The Clipse, Talib Kweli, Tre9, and Trae The Truth, who in the clip above debate the topic of rappers being role models with a teacher in the audience.

I am going to leave a comment because this is what needs to be heard ! This is part of my daily though process and to hear this finally be an actual conversation shows and proves that my generation is not going to die in vain ….Thank You Info and Mikey

Yo, why u aint say Lupe Fiasco was there too? ya gotta beef with them like NahRight?
All I gotta say about that is how childish you are.. u should be fair to everyone and not be blackballing some artists…

I added him to the title. I think that’s just an omission for space. I’m not a huge fan, but he was definitely a major part of this panel, so if that wasn’t clear, that’s our bad.

Wow.
Deep. and informative. Especially what Bun was saying. I felt Lupe had good points, but jumped on the defensive and sort of watered-down the problem a bit.
There’s so much pressure on teachers as it is. It’s not like they can just “throw out the text books” and just start a new curriculum tomorrow. School curriculums are politically based. Teachers are often times just the middlemen. They can go renegade if they want, but it’s definitely at their own risk – and often comes with more consequences than rewards.
Most teachers play it safe in the middle because it’s the only way to do the little good they can (unfortunately). Saying that teacher was just as much to blame as Lil’ Wayne is out of line. The school board, the superintendent, and the mayor, maybe. But the teacher is merely a pawn in this scenario.

I can’t comprehend.. how I UNDERSTAND the truths, (that came from Lu, the teacher, that opther rapper dude, why whom ever shared this vidio knows its significance.. the list goes on. LIL white girl.. from the suburbs, GREW UP ON HIPHOP.. went to a college prep highschool despite being near illiterate (i can read.. not well,) had this wonderful thing… called SPECIAL SERVICES REASORSES.. (audio books) , went to college, got a social worker degree, got into nyu, intered at THE SAME KIND OF SCHOOL LU WAS TALKIN ABOUT… they came to eat, alterative pubic school for kids who got kicked out or the reg for behavioral problems… 2 parents came to teachers night… MY MENTOR dean of students (after geting his MASTERS IN PRESION! YOU KNOW WHY THEY DONT OFFER HIGHER ED IN PRISON ANY MORE BTW?? CAUSE THE PRISON GUERDS FAUGHT IT WITH THE AGUMENT THAT IT WAS NOT FAIR THAT A CRIMINAL GET AN EDUCATION.. WHILE THEY WORKED AS A PRISON GUERD… HMM WORD.. WORDD, some one tell me.. how f up are we in the richestest contry supposedly smartest people in the wolrd… lets that ish fly?) i know tangents, i cant help it… point. 30, lost my job as a TA for autistic students.. i got that paper degree.. i had that privlaged class status.. i was born with this skin that socialeconmiocally benifits, in this culture, me, not by merit/choice/intelect.. i benifit over anopther group of people BASED ON THE PIGMENTS IN MY SKIN… that it, born with no tan dude, thats what got me the entitlement to this life… that im barely fighting for.. moved back in with my parents, cant get a job, those kids.. that came to school to eat, kick out of they house, they other school, sad with them as familly… now tell me how, im feeling their pain.. yet when im trying to get that other paper, a masters degree.. i stopped eatin, not cause i didnt have food??? and now tell me, how come i know i comprenhend, feel, experience some many dsiffernt of the point of view in that room.. you dont have to belive me, i know… did i grow up in the hood? nope, guess what though i know. am i an asshole? yup i know, and why do i was to skeam this message in everyones ear, as clear as it is to me, and yet, i have no voice.. now cause i cant speack.. I AM SKREAMING truths.. and good people.. smart people, better worse young old, rich , poor .. people,,, wont listen.. to truths, . 1 last question if youve even read this far.. WHAT vessel does these truths have to come out of, for all these people i said ubove, not dumb people, US,, Where do they have to hear it from, for them to finially get it? see it? feel;it its truth?? please, give me that voice, ill pay for it, people will hear, and the price, name it, ill die happy if i have to take give (rather give a life than take one for it) life.. id pay with life.. damn sry man ill stop now..

read the lyrics to all black everything, the words i never said, life is just a beach chair, Lu’s The intramental.. just a recomendation of what i find as inspiration.
