Mikey: Multiple news sources are confirming that Adam Goldstein aka DJ AM was found dead in New York City apartment earlier this afternoon. While details are still limited, sources are saying drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. DJ AM was just 36 years old at the time of his Death. Our prayers and condolences go out to AM’s friends and family in light of this tragic news.
From NYPost:
“DJ AM was found dead tdoay in an apartment on Lafayette Street in Manhattan. He was 36.
Sources said drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment and cops are looking into whether it was an overdose.
…
Barker’s ex-wife, Playmate Shanna Moakler, responded to news of DJ AM’s death on Twitter, writing, “My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends.”
DJ AM’s last post on Twitter, dated Tuesday, was a line from a Grandmaster Flash song: “New york, New York. Big city of dreams, but everything in New York ain’t always what it seems.”
From TMZ:
“Sources tell us he was found in his apartment at around 5:20 PM. We’re told drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.
Our sources say DJ AM had not been seen or heard from for a few days — one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door.”
From People:
“He was just at Rain last weekend. “He never drinks alcohol – ever,” says a source. “Every time he’s there he drinks Fiji water and Red Bull – six Fijis and six Red Bulls every night.”

SUPER SAD!!!
I wonder how much of this can be attributed to surviving that crash and some form of post traumatic stress..
God Bless Him… I hope his heart and soul finds the peace we all seek!

yeah on the real. i was actually just thinking about him two days ago because of what’s been going on with travis barker and his ex, and i was like i hope the friends and family members of these dudes know to be there for them because it is so easy to give in and just go inside yourself. this was as abrupt as they come. i knew he was in ny…and i think the dude knew something wasn’t right. this is immensly shitty.

six Red Bulls? a little hardcore, no?
Anyway, feel free to educate me on the hype behind this guy. I heard his name in tabloid news but I don’t know what was so special about him, other than he was the ‘Hollywood party dj’.
Did he pioneer anything interesting? Was he amazing behind the boards? Did he do anything with hip hop? Do tell.

He was just an amazing DJ period..he knew his HIP HOP and was able to mix that with classic rock/grunge/80’s/90’s hits like no other.
He would throw a Biggy track on and blend in a Nirvana track- first dj i personally saw do some ish like that.
He will be greatly missed, one of the greatest to ever do it.

you know what it actually doesn’t have to be about this dude and his career because he’s actually a pretty genuine person. i remember when we first got a pop/hiphop/electronic radio station here adam used to do guest dj spots. before the dude diplo blew up, adam was there. when tiesto was breaking out adam was there. the dude supported atrak, and so many other people. he was a real dj foot soldier bringing all different styles of music together, and the dude was just supportive of dj culture, and music in general. i remember him doing hip hop/rock/pop mashes, bring it to the mass’. the dude wasn’t obnoxious. he gave a shit about what music people were listening to. if you see him around you could talk to him and approach him and he wouldn’t make you feel/look stupid. the dude was a real person. i can’t even imagine what people are thinking right now and how his friends and family are doing.

You will probably get a lot of DJ AM fans, who can/will school you on him.
I think the story is sad. Especially after surviving a plane crash and overcoming a battle of drugs before he became a “celebrity DJ”. I cant say that I ever understood his hype either, but still – rest in peace to DJ Nate Quick, and DJ AM.

he was extremely talented and very much respected by hip hop’s legendary djs because they knew he studied and respected the game too. The fact that he was popular in the superficial celebrity circles did not get in the way of his craft.

thanks for saying that info. i’ve been following adam’s career for a long time because he would come here when no other dj’s were. i was really pulling for him to get his life together and he did change it up. i’m so sad about this. i know some of my friends who actually knew the dude well will be wrecked.

There always has to be one guy (#5) that upon hearing someone’s death has to bring the asshole response to the forum. HELLO, someone just died! Can the body get cold before we bring the whose that/he wasn’t all that analysis. Since you asked I’m sure that INFO can fill u in on the celebrities that AM spun for (i.e. Tom Cruise).

S.Mat, people die everyday, 99.9% of them are faceless. You don’t give a shit because you don’t know them and they’re not celebs. So spare me the “can’t you respect someone died” crap.
I didn’t know DJ AM personally, nor any of his people/friends, and I’m not familiar with his work. So obviously I’m not ‘devastated’ by the news. It’s hard for me to care about a celebrity I know little-to-nothing about. But I’ve heard his name before. That’s why I posted here to get educated.
I appreciate guys like SmilemissnAtoof, mertz and ron who actually broke it down, rather than bringing an asshole response like you have. So now, I can actually say ‘man, that sucks, he seemed like a good guy and a good artist.’

A very sad summer continues…
I don’t know anything about his situation but I just wanted to make a general comment. When it comes to drugs it’s soooo easy to get caught up and soooo difficult to break away from them. It seems that people glorify the pushers (some of them rappers) but then condemn the customers. Where they do that at? D.J. AM survived a horrible accident and that had to do a number on him psychologically. People who are quick to judge DJ AM and Michael Jackson because of the circumstances of their deaths need to take a look at themselves and their own actions. Because anyone can take a small percentage of a person’s decisions and twist their whole life around. Especially when they are dead and can’t defend themselves.
