Black Thought serves up the first single (and video) from Streams of Thought Vol. 2, the second installment in his solo series that’ll see him join forces with veteran producer Salaam Remi (who picks up the baton from 9th Wonder and the Soul Council, of course). The song is called “Conception,” and in true Black Thought fashion, the title is a double entendre: conception as in forming a thought or idea, which ties into his Streams of Thought theme; and conception as in conceiving a child, which plays into the video’s sobering story of a young couple struggling to make ends meet while keeping the flame alive.

“So if you capture the flame and it’s painful, you just charge that to the game / ‘Cause it’s shameful to just fall back and complain that you fractured the laws of attraction again / Focus on a more passionate play / No conception’s immaculate, man,” he raps. Streams of Thought Vol. 2 drops next Monday (Nov. 26).
