Birdman says the true measure of an MC is his revenue, and so Lil Wayne > Jay-Z

This motley blend of regional accents is so awesome (not to mention the equally motley visual, lol…its like BridesWard Revisited) Hearing them discuss Baby’s jewelry makes me think one day I need to do a follow-up interview with him for a Bling Bling: HipHop’s Crown Jewels sequel. The fact that he’s kept all his jewelry over the years is staggering. Did he keep the teef too?
Of course, everyone is gonna focus on Baby’s comments about Jay-Z at the 3:30 mark. “I dont think Jay-Z is #1 MC, in no kinda way. Wayne the best, he do the most, and he make the most money….lyrically, be for real, can’t nobody f–k with Wayne…and its about who makes the most money…that matters to me.”
Honestly, I barely bat an eyelash. Of course for the sake of argument and good radio, its a big deal because of the big names involved. And then there’s the issue of the actual Hov vs Weezy moneymaking comparison…But Baby isn’t a neutral commentator. Of course he’s going to feel that way…I’m more interested in Baby’s raunchy pronounciation of “hiatus.”
LOL.
October 19th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
…..oh boy. We know where THIS is going.
Even though Baby’s opinion means an inch over nothing. It does make me feel a certain way to hear the blatant, “Fuck the art. Its all about money” mind state that dominates hip hop commercially.
Oh well. More importantly to me is, How could I get your Bling book autographed. No B.S.

Clearly Birdshit has never checked out the Forbes lists of the past few years and noticed Jay-Z in the top 3 every year and himself and Wayne no where near the top 10, not that it matters of course.

I dont’ give two fucks abotu how he pronounces it. What’s more foul is him being taken seriously by a “veteran” like you.. it’s your blog delete the comment if you like. But it’s hypcritical to give a voice to these fools and then sit back and snicker at them.
Go as George Bush to pronounce Hiatus? Fux that got to do with anything? he’s a rapper? he’s nothing more.. and to top it off that wasn’t even the most foul thing he said in the interview.
Let’s stay focused on Hip Hop…

first off…don’t tell me what to do…just log off.
Secondly, I take Baby very seriously because just like Master P and the No Limit movement before him, and UGK, and Rap-a-Lot as well, Cash Money is a major pioneer in Southern hip hop, not to mention the fact that business-wise, they achieved a level of independence and financial success that made every bigger star with no equity stop dead in their tracks in the early 2000s. I feel entitled to say whatever I want, because I actually sought out Cash Money and gave them their first write-up in a national publication (Vibe) which they mention every time I see them. So…that’s that.
My point is, that people…perhaps you…will have a baby about Baby saying that Hov shouldnt be #1. And I dont agree with him, at least not for the reason he states (money, pure money). But it doesn’t give me cause for pause because I wouldnt expect him to not think Wayne should be #1. I’m in touch with reality.
So, I’m more interested in Baby’s hilarious (even when he doesnt mean to be) commentary about life, music, fashion, etc. I’m not interested in anything Bush has to say, even though yes he messes up all the time. So what.
Well, thanks for stopping by. Hope you’ll come back another time.

I don’t care for his solo endeavors but to say you can’t take this man seriously just shows your ignorance to certain parts of the culture.
Where this man came from and what he did independently and what he means to his city can not be ignored. If there was a Hip Hop History scroll in some entity’s annals then Cash Money Records would be featured prominently on it and it’s primarily because of this brother. That can’t be ignored and his business acumen alone is why he should be taken seriously.

when the day comes that Baby can sell out madison square garden in less that 15 minutes.. maybe then he will have the authority to speak on Jay Z’s status… until then… he sounds like a idiot. he has no perception of what a real MC is. he is not respected as a MC, never has been and never will be.

well the reason why most people really are shocked or taken back by Baby’s comments aren’t because of the “Wayne is the best rapper” comments hes suppose to say that. Its cuz of the we got more money then J comments. I mean yeah they are the kings of Bling and yes they make alot of money in other business ventures but Jay is a brand all by himself. The connections he has, I don’t care how many albums CM or YM put out they don’t have that just yet.

yes.
birdman was just talking trash. I understand where he came from, but he was simply talking trash.
Jay-Z currently holds the record for number 1 albums. He is listed on Forbes.
The fact is that Baby could have made a more professional statement, but he chose to bash Jay.
Jay could have chosen to ignore it, but he’s probably bored.
No matter what Wayne and Baby do, Jay is going to out commercialize them, and he’ll be the winner.
It’s as simple as dropping a line about:
“Barack told me not to!” at the Summer Jam, and then YMCMB loses a lot of credibility.
Don’t talk bad about the prez haha.

I def dont understand the absurd thoughts and comments from these guy’s, Lil wayne has more money than JAY? lil wayne doesnt have more money than diddy nor 50 and jay has more than Both last time i checked. Lil wayne is hot right now bc he had schooling and coaching from jay from carter 1 and on, he took pieces from 50 oversaturating the mixtape market, he took pieces from every selling rapper.Rap music goes thru diff stages maybe every 5-6 years a diff region gets hot, right now south is hot, theyve been hot since about 05, i give them 2 more years and this craze over lil wayne and his slowed down simple music will be done. the west has nipsey hussle n a few others stepping up, the east has its lyrical rappers making a come back, Lloyd banks, fab, kiss, Jay, all this non lyrical gucci mane and all these other guys wont be popular soon. Jus like how Afro man had his time and made alot of money they will also, but at the end of the day music goes back to its essence. LYRICISM. personally im tired of listening to BS music, How long are these guys gonna stay crack slingers and wanna be bloods and murderers? show growth and discipline youngin’. But again, baby is gonna have his opinion and say wayne is the best bc wayne is his Number 1 source for money if he doesnt u wouldnt want wayne getting all emotional about it, they already kissed dont wanna see em fight.. smh..

I think Birdshit, to borrow from the gentleman above, is a businessman through and through. He doesn’t care about the music he cares about the money. He just lucked up and found someone who can put out quality music (arguable?) and make him a boatload of money. Can’t knock him for that, that was his goal.
lol @ shameless plug though

Birdman should have said “the MC who makes the most money for me” because otherwise the statement is absurd. Of course Lil Wayne doesn’t make anywhere near what Jay-Z makes. Jay-Z’s deal with Live Nation alone was worth tens of millions of dollars, not to mention his endorsements with HP, Rhapsody, and various Roc-a-Wear products. What does Weezy endorse except a line of condoms, and the irony of that is astounding.
Skillwise, if this were 2007 or 2008, I’d agree with Baby that Wayne was better than Jay, especially after the Kingdom Come CD. But Wayne is doing too many songs and guest appearances, so much that he plaigirizes himself from time to time and gets on some Mike Jones sh–. But Baby can’t bite the hand that feeds him, so he says what he has to.

I thought we were off this, oh well but honestly who cares Jay is Jay and wayne is just Jay Jr. Wayne’s a fucking Jay-Z stalker even worse then The Game is. Don’t believe me this dude wayne has Jay-Z lyrics and song Titles Tattooed on him, I think it was “Lucky Me” from vol. 1 and lyrics from “you must love me” also from Vol. 1 LOL I least we know what Waynes fav Jay-Z record is LOL. The dudes like Silence of the Lambs Buffalo Bill wayne wants to skin Jay-Z and where him as a dress.
No I don’t believe that commercial and business success alone makes any artist better then another that’s just simple minded thinking, but it is part of the deal as this is the music BUSINESS, that said the idea on Lil’ Wayne or Baby claiming they have been in anyway more financially successful then anything Jay-Z has ever done is laughable.
I think Jay could buy Cash Money Records turn it into a country western label and have enough cash left over to buy Baby’s chains and donate them to Young Berg LOL
Jay-Z’s Wife makes more money then Wayne LOL
Jay-Z’s Wifes hair Dresser probably makes more per session then LiL wayne LOL
All joking aside Sean Carter has real money Wayne’s got show money just enough to make it look like to your average rap fan like your doing things but those out there with real money you know the Maloof’s, Mark Cuban, Ted Turner, Woods, Lebron James, Bob Johnson, Lady O, and co. they’re not checking for you Waynes not even on they’re radar but Hov those are his peoples.

I imagine since Wayne’s had the top grossing tour this year he’s taken home a healthy portion of that too. And of Wayne’s record sales because again, its a joint venture. I’m pretty sure Birdman was talking about how much money they grossed on tour.
2008-2009
Lil Wayne: $42 million
Jay-Z & Mary J. Blige :$34.6 million
I don’t think Baby is that stupid to think Him and Lil Wayne have more money than Jay-Z.
What they don’t realize is Jigga been doing this i.e Roc the Mic Tour.
Jigga has sold more records than them, plus has more ventures so I think he’s saying Weezy is Number 1 for selling the highest with Carter III and grossing the most on tour. That argument makes sense.

I’m with 50 on this. I think cause Jay has been so hands off, that everybody thinks he approachable. Like they can take shots and they know he ain’t gonna respond. They gotta move Jay out the way, cause he’s the legitimate King and you can’t get the love of the people as long as they love their “King”. I just heard wayne in an interview stating out his own mouth how he still has to rap and how Jay doesn’t. How Jay is a better lyricist than himself. Baby needs to say that, cause that’s how he makes his money. Wayne is his prostitute. No way in 10 hells is Wayne a better rhymer than Jay or 3/4ths of the other mc’s out. How you gonna be the best when everybody writes your rhymes for you????

I don’t think he’s fuckin around with that oil rig tattooed on his bald, ugly ass head. And I know he’s gotta be a lot smarter than how he acts in interviews and his music… you don’t get that filthy rich independently without being extremely smart and extremely dedicated to your hustle. Evil_D I’m not talking about either one. I’m talking about impact. As far as lyricism you can’t be serious, this came out of JayZ’s mouth:
“I dumb down for my audience and double my dollars/
They criticize me for it yet they all yell, “Holla”/
If skills sold, truth be told, I’d probably be lyricly Talib Kweli/
Truthfully, I wanna rhyme like common sense/
But I did five mil, I ain’t been rhymin’ like common since” – JayZ
Jay is financially straight now, so what’s the new excuse now?
As far as dying broke, have you ever studied any artist (visual or performing arts) who made history solely on how much money they made or was it because of their impact on their respective art form?
Who do you think will(already) have college courses dedicated to studying their impact…..google “tupac college course”

Not surprising that you are a Pac Fan, uninformed and without a clue.Pac had an impact on morons, not the the culture of hip hop as a whole.Ignorant niggas trying to pulled off the same superthug routine wasn’t hip hop’s finest moment. As for the Jay Lyric, you obviously didn’t get it.He was talking about certain topics he chose to rap about, not his ability to rap.Jay’s wordplay and lyrical ability are far superior to Pac, and that’s just a fact, because Pac was lyrically weak.If you don’t think so, go read Pac’s garbage on paper, and see how remedial the majority of his rhymes are.Lastly, I so tired of shooting down this ignorant notion that Pac’s college course is some sort of achievement; because it’s not.Pac course was listed as one of the worst college courses. You can’t get a college credit for the stupid course, and it was started by a college fratboy, not some distinguished college professor. So you Pac groupie need to get over the foolishness of his “college course” because it’s a joke, just like the Lil Kim college course.Yes, Lik Kim has a college course…

why you soo emotional over this topic? The name calling is not called for.
You didn’t understand what Jay said in that verse. Do you even know what Dumb-Down means?
It has nothing to do with topic/subject matter. It has to do with how simple something is, that even a dumb person can understand it. Like when you speak to a professional and you respond with
“can you translate that in laymen terms, english or something I can understand”
Jay basically said he has to speak down / nursery rhyme to his fans to double his dollars. Why? Because, they wouldn’t buy his music if they didn’t understand what he was talking about.
Don’t assume or act like you know me fam. I’m not a big fan of Pac’s music, in fact I only have two of his albums and atleast 4-5 Jayz albums.
I respect Pac for who he was, what he stood for; his families history (the Black Panther Party, Assata Shakur). Hearing you speak on Pac definitely shows how very little you know of him. Do you even know why he tatted Thug Life on his stomach? Sure a lot of followers jumped on that word and ran with it, but I doubt they knew what he meant when he screamed out THUG LIFE! Same reason why dudes call each other Sun and few get offended by it, not knowing why.

“why you soo emotional over this topic”
*Face Palm*
What does name calling have to do with emotions?
“It has nothing to do with topic/subject matter. It has to do with how simple something is, that even a dumb person can understand it”
Dumbing Down can and sometimes does have to do with the subject matter;Example of this is scatological humor, which I can remember being called the dumbing down of humor. Also, simplification is not always dumbing down.
“Hearing you speak on Pac definitely shows how very little you know of him. Do you even know why he tatted Thug Life on his stomach”
I know the night he was killed he and a group of criminals were stomping out another brother.I know that he start a beef(gimmick) that cost his’ and Biggie’s life.I know he said some racist shit about Quincey Jones family.I know according to Faith Evans, tried to force her into sex.I know he lived like a idiot, and died like one. What I don’t know is why he tattooed Thug Life on his chest, but to be frank, I don’t care.
Exactly why a tattoo was brought into this discussion is puzzling to say the least.

Funny how auto-tune is still alive and kickin’.
I like this interview, it was real chill.
JZ’s marketing blitz secured him the #1 spot.

God you need to actually think about the contents in their raps, and the impact it makes on the world…not their music but them. That is what makes an “artist”. Hey and for you negative commentors that will comment on my LOGIC, this is coming from a well aware 11 yr. old that is much mature than you will probably ever be in your life. So I’m siding with Jay-z(money and impact), listen to History, No Church in the wild, and Renegade, then you will know who the dopest rapper is!!!#HOV
