March 9 — the date Christopher Wallace was tragically shot and killed in Los Angeles — will forever be a day to bump some classic Biggie and reflect on one of the greatest rappers of all time. Although we’ve posted our fair share of nostalgic content dedicated to The Notorious One in the past, here’s something that brings his music into 2016: a Biggie meets Metro Boomin mash-up.
Courtesy of MICK (fka Mick Boogie) and Chi Duly, this 30-minute mix imagines Biggie’s classic rhymes over Metro’s contemporary production. There’s “Juicy” over “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1,” “Come On” over “Where Ya At?” and even chopped-and-screwed (and Auto-Tuned!) “Somebody’s Gotta Die” over “Digital Dash.” But whether you find this super interesting or straight-up sacrilegious, don’t forget there’s probably kids out there that love “Jumpman” but have never heard “Juicy.”
“We thought it would be cool to remix Biggie with a very contemporary vibe and kind of trap him out a little bit,” Mick told Highsnobiety. “We wanted to introduce him to a new audience so they can appreciate his genius, too.”
