Big Sean Plays ‘Finally Famous’ In NYC With Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Swizz Beatz and More

Mikey Fresh: So far, G.O.O.D Music’s Big Sean had the best listening session of the summer last night in NYC. The Standard Hotel in the MeatPacking district hosted Sean’s high class affair, where the Moet was free and the imitation Shake Shack burgers kept the hip-hop blogosphere satisfied. After enjoying the 3rd floor roofdeck, we were ushered into a small viewing room and Sean narrated a run through of his album. Big up to MVD Inc and Def Jam for putting this together.
Miss Info: What an auspicious launch for Big Sean! On Sunday, he performed “My Last” with Chris Brown in front of 60 thousand people at Summer Jam. On Tuesday, he previewed his Finally Famous album (June 28, pre-order) for a packed house of industry vets…everyone from Kid Cudi, Swizz Beats, Pusha T, Selita Ebanks, Estelle, DJ Khaled, Don C, Sean’s manager Kevin Liles, Angie Martinez, DJ Enuff, and more. And of course, the hip hop media was there as well. Not a bad showing for the kid from Detroit. And if attitude counts for anything (and it should), Sean has a bright future. He came off as humble and bright-eyed, emotional about his family, and humorous when telling the story of running up on Kanye West at Detroit’s WHTD radio station and wowing him with a freestyle. By the end of the night, Sean’s enthusiasm had rubbed off on his mentor Kanye, and his mentor’s mentor No I.D. Both took to the stage to share their thoughts on Big Sean and on each other.
Kanye said:
“Big Sean story is one of the most amazing ever because he literally got signed off of a freestyle, to now…having the potential to be one of the biggest artists in the world…What Beyonce is to R-n-B…Big Sean can be to rap.….And I apologize for being late, I had a throne to watch.“
That’s what he said, lol. You know Ye loves his superlatives.
Watch video of Kanye’s speech, and Big Sean’s opening speech…
Also see more photos from the party…
And more…
After the jump!
Kanye talks about Big Sean’s potential in the game and shares some great reflections on how Chicago producer No I.D. really helped both Sean’s career and his own career over the years.
Big Sean kicked off his listening session with some thoughts on his journey, and he got emotional when talking about his mother’s support of his career. Great story!
Great family feeling in the room. PS: according to Andrew/FakeShoreDrive, Kanye was rocking one of the snakeskin Mitchell & Ness snapback hats that Don C recently designed.
During the listening session, Sean played an uptempo club song called “Dance (A$$)” which I thought was super catchy…

Mikey, on the other hand….did not agree. LOL.

LOL…”skeezers”? Really, Mike? That kind of talk will get you a dirt nap.

His story seems great……..but his music, not so much. We’ll see.
“What Beyonce is to R-n-B…Big Sean can be to rap.….And I apologize for being late, I had a throne to watch.“
Hope that aint the kiss of death…..

You know what… I agree with you 100%. I don’t even think we know his story at all.Besides him “free-styling for his deal” I think kanye took him straight to pop didnt develop him. I think an artist first album should at least be 50% auto-biographical so we can buy into his/her persona.
Even though I think he makes edgy clever music, we don’t know who big sean is, where he developed, how he got discovered. Instead of kanye having to do all that shouldn’t his music touch that first?

Yea he was reeeeeaching with that Beyonce comparison. I guess he just trying to do for Big Sean what Jay and Dame did for him. **shrugs**
If anything, he could milk that Kanye co-sign for all it’s worth.

Finally Famous Vol 3 was one of my top 3 mixtapes of the year. Maybe Ye’s comments invited harsh criticism but i think the kids is nice. Boi!

Big Sean is nice point blank. If you have really checked out his body of work you really can’t hate, even if you’re not into what he is talking about.

Forget all of that, what’s up with Kanye rocking the Dallas Mavericks hat? Since he was present at Lebron’s “Decision” I thought that he would be a straight up Heat fan. Btw, I’m rooting for the Mavericks also, because Lebron needs to take it down a notch.

I’m cheering for the Mavs too, but that’s actually a Florida Marlins hat, not a Mavs hat…

I went ahead and pre-ordered the album after listening to the videos. Every person has a story, and I love to see somebody coming up and doing it big-especially out of Detroit. I hope he makes it big and is able to bring as much of the city up with him
