You can tell that Em, Thought & Mos took this cypher thing seriously. The 3rd cypher was the one that Mouse should have been in. His wordplay was too much for his cypher. It would have been intersting to see what Rakim would have done if he was able to make cypher 3 and Asher Roth for cypher 1. My hope after seeing cypher 3 is that all of our thoroughbred lyricists actually want to commit to the cypher every year after seeing what Em Black & Mos did. I don’t know if Minaj ever was in a cypher then she would have realized that the odd movement should only have a place on stage not during a cypher where the only thing that matters is rhymes. Now we just need the unedited version of cypher 3 to get the full effect.

That was amazing, all in all good for hip-hop. All 3 cyphers where sick the standouts of each were Joe budden in cypher 1 that dudes flow is so effortless the punch lines all come so easily to him I can’t understand for the life of him why people hate him so much that dude is really talented. The Teacher KRS 1 in cypher 2 but Wale was a close 2nd his sports metaphors are insane if you catch them some of them are really obscure but if you’re a big sports fan you totally get them. In cypher 3 everyone was amazing Mos is ridiculous he is so the ambassador of Brooklyn hip-hop the dude just has BK style in his soul makes me proud to be from the thoroughest borough BK. Black Thought is the most under rated rapper on earth he gets lost in the greatness of his band The Roots and don’t get me wrong they are great, but when Thought stands alone there’s not too many rappers in Hip-Hop that can hang with Philies finest. Last and definitely not least was Eminem. I expected him to shine because of his superior natural talent so I can’t say there was that ohhh factor element of surprise like with some of the less proven rappers on the clips. It’s Kinda like watching Lebron dunk always amazing but at this point it’s what you’ve come to expect from him so when tiny Nate Robinson throws one down you’re more astonished. But he did his thing like only Eminem can. I just wish he was able to harness that same raw “lose yourself” type energy on his last album which I found greatly disappointing but it’s good to see the man back in top form again.
I wish there were more of these I wanna see Talib J. Cole and monche or Weezy, Charles Hamilton, and Ye, or 3 stacks, Drake and B.O.B…

I wonder if they knew ahead of time who would be in their cyphers? If so, did they go extra hard knowing that Rakim was going to be in the cypher (he dropped out at last minute)? Not that each MC doesn’t get busy because they do I’m just saying. After seeing these guys, wondering if Rakim could have maintained if not excelled the excellence of rhyming. Em definitely got his B. Rabbit 8 Mile in this cypher. The quality of MC’s for BET cyphers will improve after Em, Thought and Mos appearance. Em’s appearance opens the top for top flight MC’s to appear and get busy. And it’s time to rotate the venue for the award show. NY, Cali, Mia, etc.

yeah I’m with nightfall why would he be mad at all. Jay had his cypher and free style moment during the greatest era of hip hop amongst the greatest rappers of all time. He’s moved on to another stage in his career he’s doing stadium tours non stop, making albums, big business deals, and so on. Jay-Z is not gonna drop a hot 16 on a corner any more then Adrian Peterson is gonna play a touch football game in a school yard. I’m not saying he couldn’t Jay or Peterson I’m just saying he has already done that; that’s how he started and built his legend no need to really go there anymore. His status is set now, no I’m not saying he’s the best rapper lyricist or what ever I’m not opening that pandoras box. I am saying he is the biggest Rap Star in hip-hop history, now it’s all about maintaining that status and seeing it grow in different directions.

One of the best Ciphers I have seen damn Em killed it. Yeah I think Em killed it but something about black thoughts shit was amazin. Mos def just makes you feel like your in brooklyn smooth. I like his style on this one he won me over. Even when Black killed it. I hope that next time some of the other rappers that think that there oh so pretty and oh so witty spit in the cipher I would love to see that. Best I’ve seen thus far.

When you have nothing positive to say and go out of your way to tear something/someone down, that is the definition of a hater. If you don’t think he was the best, fine. No one’s asking you to, but to act like he somehow dragged the cypher down in some way where you can’t give them all credit for what they did, is hating. That cypher was complete. It was the best one with no one falling short, but you can’t even give credit to the quality they all brought. Hater.

That “Saigon” line sealed it for EM, and THAT gave his rhyme the barely slight edge IMO.
Overall Mos, Black,Em and Joe raised the standards for the EBT/BET (same shit) Awards Cypher .

2.Em = crazy,mindblowing wordplay
3.Joe Budden = Straight fire,the precision of a surgeon at work
Black Thought took it.The flow was seamless to the point his delivery became the ‘Heartbeat’ of the beat.Em was slightly off beat at the start,that’s why i feel Thought was better.Joe’s performance was dope as well.

The more I listen to it the more i leaning this way Em amazing as he was, was off beat and often is honestly although the actual lyrical wordplay was great. Thought was more focused and execution was absolutely perfect. Joe Budden was every easy and effortless with his flow sometimes toning down the volume of the words and increasing the clarity makes a rhyme come off so crazy like he did it. But Mos needs some consideration as well if you really listen to the message what he was trying to say when he was rolling off the street names and cities like that it was really dope. Anyway it was all good

My problem is with number three, which is filled with the up and comers. The problem is, there is no attention. However, I was completely captivated with Ms. Maraj’s freestyle. Besides her game always on top she just threw me off with the Mike Vick reference haha. Mos and Black Thought have always been legit. Brought back memories just like seeing Mos Def freestyle since HBO and Def Jam had to go and shut down the beloved Poetry showcase. -sigh-.
