Rest in Peace: Adam Yauch, MCA of the Beastie Boys
Posted by Mikey Fresh under not good for hip hop , relationships and family[15] Comments
This is terrible news for hip-hop. Both GlobalGrind and TMZ have confirmed that the Beastie Boys’ MCA (Adam Yauch August 5, 1964 – May 4, 2012) has passed away at age 47. Previously, MCA had been battling cancer and undergone surgery, and radiation treatment.
Yauch is survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu and their daughter Tenzin Losel.
Details remain scarce right now but stay tuned for more details on this heart-breaking story.

Excuse my language but this one really fucked me up!
The second concert I ever saw was the Run DMC/Beastie Boys Tour in ’87. Was blessed enough to see them at the very first Free Tibet concert in Golden Gate Park & along with over 80,000 people had the privilege of watching them bring the house down. Met him twice & both times he was friendly, eloquent, & took time out to discuss both politics & Hip hop.
Think I saw the Beasties perform 7-8 times live total & the most memorable show was the Intergalactic Tour because GANG STARR opened up for them. Talk about a SHOW! FUCK WHAT YA HEARD! These dudes are respected round the globe & out of all the acts they could get to open for them they keep it extra gutter & go as Hardcore Hip Hop as you can get! THAT’S why the Beasties will always get respect!
They created 2 of the most important records in Hip Hop history, probably the single greatest video ever in Sabotage, are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, celebrated graffiti, film, art, charity, & championed real Hip Hop! Not bad for a white Jewish dude with a background in Punk culture!
Now I think about all these trash rappers selling boat loads of records & making $ hand over fist. Put wayne, drake, ross, nicki, etc etc ALL TOGETHER & collectively they will NEVER contribute HALF of what this dude did to our culture & society! Like GURU said “RESPECT WILL OUTLAST CASH!”
Godspeed MCA! PEACE!

1000% MY BAD! Guru had said it in an old interview I was reading a few weeks ago & he even quoted KRS when doing so. That’s how bad I’m doing when I forget that! Lol I know that verse like the back of my hand too… “They fail to realize, Respect will outlast cash…” Either way the sentiment remains the same. Good Lookin’ Out on the fact check!

In all the sadness this news gave me i find some reconciliation in the fact that life of Adam Yauch was so full of creativity and positive impact on people around the world. Thanks for all your crazy greatness, you will never be forgotten MCA.
