23-year-old Azealia Banks has certainly had a bumpy ride when it comes to her musical career. During her short time in the spotlight, she’s already had several beefs, ditched high profile managers, and most recently had a falling out with Universal.
But trust me, there’s way more to Ms. Banks than what you can observe at surface level. Trust us when we say her independently released album, Broke Expensive Taste, is really good and deserves a listen.

In her interview with Ebro, Peter and Laura, Azealia speaks extremely candidly about how she feels about the Grammys, Iggy Azalea and why hip-hop culture is constantly being taken from African-Americans.
“That Macklemore album wasn’t better than Drake’s record,” Banks tells HOT97. “That Iggy Azalea shit is not better than any black girl that’s rappin’ today. The Grammys are supposed to be accolades of artist excellence. Iggy Azzlea is not excellent.”
She goes on to voice her opinion on how Nicki Minaj doesn’t get enough credit for her contributions to hip-hop, and feels that putting her in an award category with Iggy is “cultural smudging.”
“All it says to white kids is like ‘oh yeah, you’re great, you’re amazing, you can do whatever you put your mind to,’she says about her issues with the Grammys.” And it says to black kids, you don’t have shit, you don’t own shit, not even the shit you created for yourself. And, it makes me upset.”
However, things get way more intense as Banks gets extremely emotional and breaks down in tears as she continues to explain how she hurt she feels over this (which happens at around the 12:14 mark. She also starts going off on T.I. at the 15:00 mark).
