Awkward!: Howard Stern’s Artie Lange vs. HBO’s Joe Buck
Posted by Miss Info under beef , good for me , laugh at , life beyond rap , not good for humanity , quotes , things I love , videos[33] Comments
I didn’t have a clue who this Joe Buck guy was…but he had a show on HBO that from what I can tell it’s like Bob Costas but for smarmy a-holes who party at the bar at the W-Hotel. I’m told he’s a big sportscaster. Whatevs. The show was unbearable…until…he had a 4-broham chat with Paul Rudd (who I heart btw), Jason Sudekis (from SNL), and Artie Lange (the unapologetic hot ass mess from the Howard Stern show).
Needless to say…it was an awesomely awkward hostile disaster. (read: success)
I’ll post the actual segment they aired on TV after the jump…that’s where the whole convo started going downhill…But I also enjoyed the online-only segment that these guys actually sat thru after they were already hating each other.
omg…the Lucky Pierre….
Cant believe Artie even got into with the SNL guy…
And Michael Irvin with the zinger! “Its refreshing to see white-on-white crime.”
The start of the awkwardness after the jump….

Did you see the look on Buck’s face after the TMZ comment?
“You can’t do that, sir!!!”
“Say what you mean, Joe, shit.”
UPDATE: oh, come on, HBO…cut it out with the “He wasn’t who we thought he was. We thought we were going to have an entertaining and kind of comical look at sports and celebrity — but we didn’t expect the guy to hijack the segment for his own personal gain.” (via HuffPo)

You made my weekend w/ this. Buck has no job being on camera, let alone behind a mic. Even during sporting events. Joe needs a whole years worth of botox after this.

mfastow with the Sirius company line!
The great irony is that this train wreck of a show (with and without Artie’s participation) got the buzz that HBO wanted – even if they say they didn’t want it by these means.
Let’s go over the winners and losers:
Joe Buck: One his first show, can’t control his guests; lacks proper humor, style and segues when dealing with a bully. LOSER.
Artie Lange: Classic case of the fat elementary school bully. Not only picked on the host on his first show (with Buck’s daughters in the audience), but when Sudekis threw a pebble at him, Artie became enraged and buried him. Acted like he didn’t care when people called him out. Even though it’s his schtick, he went too far. LOSER.
Sudekis and Rudd: Had to endure being in the middle of this public spat, and tried to maintain some semblance of professionalism and good humor. LOSERS by proxy.
Miss Info: Gets to witness awkwardness that lives on in infamy through the internet? WINNER!

very astute.
I think Joe Buck is a pompous ass, and Artie was just a fast forward button to that reveal.
As for Artie…he’s the person who is so much pain with hating himself that he can only lash out when he seems people who so unabashedly love themselves.

Damn you Eric. Joe knows he shouldn’t try to get into it w/ Artie. Whoever made the decision to bring him on should have known better. 1st Amendment won as well. Can I be a winner too? Info wins too much on this interweb.

i used to be a stern fan a while back when he was on krock and artie definitely contributed greatly to the show. The funny thing is, Artie is absolutely right…which makes for the best burn…joe is awful and his show will be done, unless hbo gets the great idea of allowing Artie to come back every week so we can watch the verbal sparring. nice. very nice.

Artie is taken alot of shit for this appearance.. but the truth is that the show was going nowhere.. Brett Favre was on the show but all Joe Buck did was kiss his ass.. Hes not a good host and Artie gave this show so much pub that theyre loving him even tho they say they dont. Wait till the next episode… and watch nobody talk about it

Joe Bucks has no reason hosting his own show. The guy is bland as hell as a sportscaster, no emotion whatsoever. It would be akin to giving Pat Summerall his own show in his heyday only that might be entertaining because he was an alcoholic.
I am so glad that Artie came through and lifted up his dress. I know Joe got all crabby at HBO that’s why they released that statement but Artie says he was told by the PRODUCER to go out there and kick ass. So Joe doesn’t have a Italian loafer to stand on in this instance.
Artie has lost some weight too, finally looking a little healthy, hope he’s turning his demons back.

I watch Real time with Bill Mahr, but I was not about to watch Joe Buck because he’s such a douche. I will say this, it was funny and thats about it for my Joe Buck quota.
He has the personality of hair brush. I’d rather watch paint dry. Bring Arty lang back because i’d take a bet on what segment he would die on. and for God sake let the dude smoke, who gives a shit.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD!!!
I thought I was the only one that felt that way with the over reaction to the Moss mooning.
So there you have it Joe Buck is a douche were all in agreement.
Side note: I thought it was a bit patronizing to drop a Micheal Vick commentary at the end.

Too Fat to Fish by Artie Lange, check it out!
I listen to Howard everyday and Artie actually told the full behinds the scenes story the other day. Needless to say, everybody wasn’t on the same page.

Buck is a big time announcer, he does the baseball games for Fox, the world series, and other shit. His dad is Jack Buck, he died, he is a legend, he was a sportscaster for STL back in the day.
anyway, HBO knew what was up, he did what he was there for, he got people talking about the show right?
What was the point of this show anyway? isnt this exactly like Costas Now? Except not as good, and I mean I thought it was gonna be a weekly thing that would make it different from Costas show, but its the same shit, its every few months he will do it, so whats the point? He aint funny, this shit was just stupid. Arty was funny though.

give Deion or Micheal a show, someone everyone would want to talk to and dont take no ish! i like what Joe had to say about Mike Vick getting a second shot…i think i like just “hearing” his voice betta as a commentator! the SNL guy I love, they shouldve let him do a skit or something. he is HILARIOUS! Paul guy is pretty cool too.

Miss Info, if your not aware of who Joe Buck is, he is a jerkoff who announces baseball games for Fox with a bigger jerkoff named Tim McCarver. I call them jerkoffs not because they bad mouth the Yankees every chance they get but because they are obnoxious squared. Artie Lang is a HUGE jerkoff but he is extremely funny and extremely real. Plus he has a weight and drug problem that makes him easy to love. Those clips were the best things about this crappy day and as a big fan of this blog, I really appreciate you bringing topics like this and others (food, LOST, etc…) to the site. Happy Fathers Day to all who deserve it.

I’m loving bhendu’s honesty/logic: “Plus he has a weight and drug problem that makes him easy to love.”
Is that what I’m doing wrong? I wish I knew this sooner.
Ms. Info – will you go out with me if I become a fat junkie?
