RetroHash

You should know by now that Asher Roth’s upcoming album RetroHash isn’t going to sound anything like his beer-chugging, blunt-cruising, go-kart-larking debut, Asleep In the Bread Aisle. You should also know by now that Asher Roth hasn’t even been on the frat-rap tip since “I Love College.”

Continue after the jump…

The pony-tailed Philly MC has put out much more convincing material these last few years (including the sorely overlooked Rawth EP and Pabst & Jazz), and it doesn’t look like RetroHash is going to buck that trend. Just take the latest track, “Last of the Flohicans,” which pits Roth’s nimble rhymes over sludgy riffs from Blended Babies and backing vocals from Major Myjah.

Compare this with “Tangerine Girl” and the Vic Mensa-assisted “Fast Life,” and it’s fair to say that RetroHash will be a bit of a melting pot of genres. That may detract some fans hoping for those “Bastermating“-type joints, but whatever the beat, Asher Roth continues to put his penmanship first and party raps second — whether you’re sleeping on him or not.

RetroHash drops April 22, and is available to pre-order on iTunes now. Stream “Last of the Flohicans” below.
