ASAP Rocky Sounds Off on MTV’s ‘Hottest MCs List’ Ranking: “I Didn’t Like That”
Posted by Mr.North under Interviews , Quotes[22] Comments

Kanye West isn’t the only artist sounding off on MTV’s “Hottest MC’s in the Game” list. During a west coast visit, A$AP Rocky caught up with DJ SourMilk and Justin Credible of the L.A. Leakers to discuss his No. 8 placing.
While Kanye brought up records and verses during his debate, Rocky cites overall artistry as to why he should’ve been placed higher. From directing his own videos, being a trendsetter, and rappers jacking his flows, Lord Flacko feels he should be No. 1 or not on the list at all.
Watch A$AP Rocky’s interview with the L.A. Leakers below……
“I didn’t like that.
I’ve been directing my videos since 22, I’m 24-years-old. All of my videos are sh***ing on any hip-hop video out there let’s be honest, the reason everyone’s wearing gold again is because of your boy. Everybody’s wearing diamonds, I’m the one who made glasses with the John Lennon shades with the glasses going on now. C’mon who brought gold teeth back? I’m just being honest.
I’m the first artist that grew enough balls to say I listen to Geto Boys, Three 6 Mafia, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, N.W.A., and Wu-Tang at the same damn time, what! And I’m influenced by all of them.
Who brought double-time back? Who was rapping like Bone? Nobody.
Everybody’s rapping like that now, it’s frustrating when I’m number eight don’t put me on it at all.”

^ I think Rocky has no case. He should’ve been lower honestly.
March 5th, 2013 at 10:40 pm
probably should have been at 10. Leave future off the list and put in Pusher T.

While I do appreciate Rocky’s music, I can’t agree with him. Yea, you “brought back” Bone Thugs’ flow but otherwise from that, everything else you’re trying to take credit for is a no no. Kanye been rocking gold chains and fronts, and Wu-Tang is still around, so you didn’t bring ANYTHING Wu related “back”.
I don’t understand why people are trying to take credit for a style that’s been out. Not because said artist isn’t on MTV or on the radio as much does not mean we forgot about them.
Do I think the kid belongs on the list? Heck ye! his movement in a year escalated. It’s MTV, not the end of the world. Be grateful you as a newcomer is being recognized and keep it moving. Shhhit!

hahaha I didn’t realize that “dillusional” [sic] day is the day we celebrate delusions and incorrect spelling : )

Well i got nothing but respect for new talents this includes a$ap rocky who is from the notorious 5 districts. Anyway time allowing i’m asking who is the best musician? I think performance is critical stepping up a talented individual is famous because he can write. Never how big they’ve turned up sounded. I really think foreigners control what we listen to i’m certain is anyone there? look remember that isn’t nice just is now that phenom some aspect of representing ones land and territory. Get high don’t give attention. It’s still difficult to decide but it look like the Coast has become a criminal centered area where like minded fools dwell; the music has to get played but the listener is just confused and maybe it’s impossible to get the point across youknowhatimsayin listen to dmx he’s not a Dj but an artist. Who controlled the morning after party? what happened last night? you dunno until you look at the media it goes around. If they’re getting paid it’s basic biz less money sometimes no sleep. Don’t ask basically philanthropic people judging you. I don’t wanna respect him/her because they’re famous musicians I just want to flirt with women and go to parties. Other than that the dj is the one who’s taking up alot of my attention nowdays because I can’t go a single moment without deciding if what I heard was whack or just plain stupid. So maybe it’s a tie but the scene doesn’t need scapegoats and haters the moment I found that on someone’s album I just tripped. So if your a rapper it’s cool that you can flow just remember your part of this game which involves thieves, hustlers, gangs, pimp one crazy dream.

This kid is a joke when it comes to lyrics he’s a passing fad and will be done shortly. In any case these lists are subjective IMO.
I view people like Pusha T, Talib, Mos Def or whatever he’s calling himself now as great lyricists. Throw in a Jay, Nas, Biggie, Rakim, KRS One, Ras Kas (Yes I said it), J Cole, Raekwon and lots of others as being great lyricists. Take away the beat and the words matter. IMO the list is subjective to the current trends and not the real quality of the music or its potential longevity.

remember Hip-Hop heads this is “MTV’s” top 10 MC’s in the game and MTV stands for Music TeleVision so if you don’t have music on “their” television your not “hot”.
Here’s MY list (remember we are talking about M.C’s)
1. NAS (Life Is Good)
2. KENDRICK LAMAR (Good Kid, M.A.A.D city)
3. Lupe Fiasco (Food and Liquor 2)
4. JOEY BADA$$ (1999 mixtape)
5. FABOLOUS (The S.O.U.L Tape 2)
6. MEEK MILL (Dream Chasers 2, Dream and Nightmares)
7. Styles P (The Worlds Most Hardest MC Project)
8. 50 CENT (5 Murder By Numbers)
9. Jadakiss (Consignment mixtape)
10. Lloyd Banks (V6 mixtape)
Agree or argue amongst yourselves.
Matter of fact make your own list…YOU the listener defines the culture not MTV.
March 6th, 2013 at 8:38 am
here’s the real debate who should come off the list for these two M.C’s to be on the list…and where should they rank.
Curren$y (Stoned Immaculate)
Freddie Gibbs (Baby Face Killa)

March 6th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
Excellent point…”YOU the listeners defines the culture not MTV”…EARTH,this is the most APPLICABLE AND RELEVANT comment about Hip Hop that has been stated in years…we got to stop letting Jackasses define what Hip Hop is….As a matter of fact, somebody need to ask those that compiled the list; What are 5 elements of Hip Hop? Hell, ask them what is 1 element of Hip Hop…peace

Son needs to have some humble pie first, he really didn’t bring nothing back. Juicy j , Wayne and baby still rockin grills , kanye had the bottom grills out like 2 years ago when him and the crew was running around like men in black. Braids? Jim jones just cut his hair off like a yr or 2 ago, but now asap bringing it back. That’s like Obama saying ” y’all seen me with the 360 waves back in 08, that was all me” #cmonson that shit been here, where YOU been?
His whole steez is a cross btwn Clipse/pharrell/Kanye and then he tries pull that off as his? I’m not knocking his hustle, music or “persona” all I’m saying is he needs to humble up, suck it up and put out BETTER music to where they have to respect it and place you higher on the list.
Whatever happened to the days where rappers didnt care about an interview or even a “who’s more popular?” list. #smh
