ASAP Rocky Isn’t a Fan of Rapper Clothing Lines: “That Sh*t Corny”
Posted by Mikey Fresh under interview[12] Comments
From Miss Info’s recent interview with A$AP Rocky we know that he’s working on a fashion collabo with Alexander Wang, and hopefully Raf Simons. However, ASAP leader revealed to the homie Aqua/HHW that he’s not into “rapper clothing lines” at all. Rocky explains how he understands the hard work it takes to really produce quality garments and he does not cosign any… “Hood clothing lines…I refuse man. I refuse. I’m good on that.” (The A$AP tour tees were just a collection)
“I might collab with designers, but that sh-t corny,” that PMF tells Hip-Hop Wired. “When rappers be doing that clothing line sh-t, that sh-t be corny man. That’s a slow reality show. Ya know how reality shows wash ni–as up. I feel that clothing line sh-t is just a slower reality show. That sh-t corny man.”
Read more of Rocky’s comments after the jump…
“I’m not no fashion designer. Just ‘cause I got good taste don’t mean that I know how to create it,” he added. “I feel that’s disrespectful. It’s just like record labels and sh-t. Just cause motherf-ckers know Hip-Hop doesn’t mean you know how to create it motherf-cker. Just cause you know it, don’t mean you know how to create it.”
So for now, the only A$AP Rocky gear fans can get a hold of will be their officially sanctioned collection of tees and tank taps. “I know brands well, I’m not a fashion designer,” reiterates Rocky. “It’s more to fashion than just fabrics and stencils. You gotta learn how to draw, you gotta know how colorways work and materials, it’s hard man.”

I’m impressed by his wide-ranging command of the English language and its vocabulary.

Phat Farm generated a lot of income for Russel Simmons. Rocafella generated retarted income for Jay and Dame. Sean John made tons of cash for P.Diddy. You’re a small fish in a tank full of sharks, keep your mouth shut ya shrimp. Fashion is bigger than money but at the same time you can’t be coming out at the side of your mouth when your so called “fame” or whatever these mollied out brains wanna perceive it to be, and be so generic as to generalize it as “corny”. PS- Ms. Info the real harlem want that new Cam. Get with Cam on the phone and get us some of that real ish these real streets want, none of these transgender new rappers aka ASAP.

Instead of reading the article beyond your blatant prejudice against this mans YOUTH, you basicallu confirmed what he was trying to say. These rappers DO IT FOR THE MONEY!! They capitalize off of the fashion industry just like white execs do with hip hop. But wait while we’re on this subject, let me break it down for you.
At Sean Jean / Rocawear / and Phat Farm (insert any big urban sportswear brand) there’s maybe about 4-5 minority designers bangin out these clothes season after season.
Working long hours, Consumed with debt and student loans, Tryna make due with the measly 25-35k (before taxes) just to survive.
NO ROYALTIES, NO ADVANCE, NO STOCKS.
Niggas str8 getting financially raped just to work hard and do Wat they love to do, design.
So next time u think about these rappers/ moguls making bank off these brands, think about that kid hustlin hard to make them rich.
I mean can u imagine… The Dream, Lil’ Wayne, or any other rapper/Singer/producer signed to a major label on salary. Lol nope.

Rocky definitely has a point. Besides Sean John all those other rapper fashion lines have a limited window. You gotta be a fly nigga 24/7 like Diddy to get money in that lane.

Rocky has a point because none of the “rapper fashion lines” have lasted. The major lines like Sean John, Rocawear and Phat Farm aren’t even wholly owned by Diddy, Jay-z and Rush. Those dudes cashed out years ago and are now essentially paid spokes models for the lines. Is selling something that you created for several times what you put into it corny or just good business?… As for the slow burn comment, I’m surprised Jim Jones hasn’t commented yet. Jim is a reality star (Chrissy and Mr. Jones) and the owner of a “rapper fashion line” (Vampire Life anybody?).
