Exclusive Details on the #Aaliyah project: Calm Down, @Timbaland Is Involved!
Posted by Miss Info under Beef , Exclusives , New Music[34] Comments
Diehard Aaliyah fans had so many questions and concerns after a new song called “Enough Said” leaked to the web featuring previously unreleased vocals from the late singer, a new verse from Drake and a beat from Noah “40” Shebib.
Was this part of the rumored album of unreleased Aaliyah songs? Was the album sanctioned by Aaliyah’s family? Who put out this song?
But the loudest cries came from Aaliyah traditionalists who felt that, 11-years after her tragic death in a plane crash, the first posthumous tracks should include Aaliyah’s close friends and collaborators Timbaland and Missy. Timbaland felt that way, too.
When we posted “Enough Said”, it seems like mystery somehow fueled a backlash against Drake, as if he was somehow co-opting Aaliyah’s legacy, and boxing out her friends.
Today a source familiar with the upcoming Aaliyah project tells us a different story…
Read details after the jump…
According to our source, “Enough Said” was released by Aaliyah’s own label, Blackground Records, which is run by her uncle Barry Hankerson. The song wasn’t leaked by Drake.
As for how involved Drake is, I’m hearing he’s only on one song right now. But that Noah “40” Shebib is producing a majority of the tracks. I’m actually looking forward to what 40 does with these unreleased vocals. His sound seems like a good match.
But for all the fans who cant imagine a Aaliyah project without the input of Timbaland and Missy Elliott…great news! I’m hearing that Tim is getting involved. So far I’m hearing he’s producing 2 songs. Hopefully there will be more and Missy will be in there too! Timbaland recent told me that he and Missy are already done recording their joint album.
Now do you feel better about the upcoming Aaliyah project? I can’t wait to hear more.

Traditionialists Aaliyah fans wouldn’t really be in uproar seeing as how she had 3 albums and their big contribution was only on one album, and it’s not like they did the whole album. The singles yes, but Aaliyah fans craving to her new vocals again loved her for the non-singles equally if not more so.
Yes we loved Michael Jackson with Quincy Jones but he was so much more then his producer(s)

I’d really rather see somebody like Irv Gotti involved along with Timbaland, rather than Drake.
August 6th, 2012 at 7:18 pm
The thing is, 40 just makes it sound generic. How do we go from the genius of “we need a resolution” to this banal instrumental with a redundant Drake rap.
Aaliyah, of course sounds angelic….
August 6th, 2012 at 7:32 pm
Hey, I don’t think most people know what “executive” producer really means anyway.
August 6th, 2012 at 8:45 pm
Again 40 is good but he aint no Timbo
August 6th, 2012 at 8:56 pm
I’m sorry but I refuse to co-sign any of this bullshit! And before I start lemmie be clear that this ain’t my usual “ANTI-drake” rant, even though he needs to GTFOH with that wack ass verse on her song! Hope this ramble makes some kinda sense in the end! Lol
People who don’t really remember Aaliyah or for those too young to understand her legacy at all need to remember that she made some of the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT, GROUNDBREAKING, & JUST BRILLIANT R&B MUSIC OF THE 1990’S AS WELL AS BEING A PART OF COMPLETELY REVOLUTIONIZING THE SOUND & SHAPE OF MODERN POPULAR MUSIC! Timbaland became TIMBALAND & Missy became MISSY while working with Aaliyah. SHE put THEM on the map. That entire group (Big up to the rest of that songwriting crew too!) changed everything!
The only reason she did not work with Timbaland more on her last album was ONLY due to their schedules not lining up & that was it! NO AALIYAH PROJECT, AND I MEAN NO PROJECT, SHOULD EVER COME OUT AGAIN, WITHOUT TIMBALAND & MISSY BEING THE MAIN PEOPLE BEHIND IT! THEY KNEW HER ARTISTICALLY BETTER THAN ANY PERSON ON THIS EARTH! We all saw what happened last time they tried to release an Aaliyah project, the “I Care 4 U” Fiasco! The new songs didn’t have the quality keeping with the bulk of her career. If they wanna throw that 40 dude a bone & give him a track or 2, fine. OTHERWISE HANDS F$%^ING OFF! Dude doesn’t have the resume to F#$% with her. PERIOD!
I fear that they are just going to make her sound like EVERY OTHER ARTIST OUT NOW & throw on some hot rappers & just F%^& it up! NOOOOO! If Biggie & Jay never worked with her, & they didn’t simply because her music was strong enough to NOT need anybody else, then I do not want wayne, drake, nicki, meek, rick ross, or whoever the F%^& else they are probably going to trot out there. It’s just going to ruin the overall quality of her work.
When all is said & done, will this project live up to the body of work her career produced. That is the only thing that counts. Otherwise it just looks like Drake used his power to work with his Big Crush & show off his clout in the industry. That’s some shit I don’t need to see!
R.I.P. Aaliyah!

No lie miss info this track was garbage. it sounded like a boring 40 beat. he did nothing to that track but a snare and a simple melody. its a shame that that would be the best he would bring to the table for a legend like her. and Drake needs to see a therapist… this dude goes hard on rnb tracks to reply to what dudes are saying about him. he couldve done a nice marvins room type song with a legend who he always looked up to but he chose to once again pretend hes hard. come on man.
August 6th, 2012 at 11:56 pm
‘a boring 40 beat’? no one in the industry categorize his tracks as boring, forget his hit-making. open Drake-haters like u still respect 40s music, for his own sound+lane.’stoney’& stripped down is one of 40s styles.not ur cup a tea. cool. don’t sound like Drakes ‘goin hard’ at someone (‘stay schemin’ or ‘no lies’ verse). this typical down-side-of- fame-Drake. are u part of the conspiracy saying he’s going at Breezy? that line ‘selling under 150’ applies to 80% of people making records-

Nice to hear Timbo may be involved lol.. I’ll wait on the music.
Everybody all hype to hear Aaliyah again but “Enough Said” is weak to me… Its just slapped together on a lazy 40 beat with hands down one of the most off Drake verses I have heard in a minute. The person above me who said he shoulda done a Marvin’s room type verse is dead on… That’s the tone he should have went for but dude was trying to go hard unnecessarily.
And towards the end of the song who ever mixed it got lazy, shit sounds like chaos.
I know Timbo and Missy been waiting for a greenlight on an Aaliyah project to pull out some unreleased vocals and kill it…. So I will wait for that but if 40 is doing a bunch of tracks and he can’t get his shit together, I’m not interested.
40 does have a sound that can fit well for Aaliyah but if it sounds tooo much like a Drake song then that’s no good. Some of his best work is when he is co-producing, like somebody done did some ill shit and he just flipped it a bit… That’s some of 40’s best work.
I guess only time can tell but I really despise “Enough Said”, Aaliyah’s voice sounds good but could u imagine an entire album of that…. Lol I am sure there are Aaliyah remix albums out there that sound better than that shit.
August 7th, 2012 at 1:43 am
doesnt matter to me who’s involved, I just wanna hear aaliyah’s voice over some dope beats.

As a true person who from the beginning to the end adores AALIYAH and loves her music and listens to it from beginning to end everyday. Who hears her undertones and the length of her breath as she holds the note and even harmonizes with herself to the point where every song doesn’t even need a beat at all… The sound of this song does nothing to represent Aaliyah, the growth she would have showed if she were still here, her status with her fans and the evolution of her own creative genre that would have taken her to the next level of music. Aaliyah always was groundbreaking and was very specific about the beats she sang on, which were always elaborate and unlike anything that was out! She was always original especially about what she sang about, her choice of words used wether she wrote them or someone else did, and the way she delivered the actual song (Which was so unique I can’t stand when people try to compare her to other artist, it’s like people hear so many people now a days that can’t ing that they can’t recognize hearing someone that really can). I am glad this song came out because music is seriously missing her (Obviously because of all the response to this) but I could have waited another 10 years for something truly amazing. I like the beat but for AALIYAH the beat was stale. Then as much as I like Drake, I expected more from him! There was no passion, no connection, no cohesion, no artistic integrity, nothing that said “I am going to SMASH this track because I am on a track with the artist that was my main influence to sing!” And there was also a lack of respect with the way he talked because there is no way in person you would have came at a woman such as Aaliyah like that if she were telling you, “Baby, tell me what you need.” (In real life or in a song). He delivered a rap that had nothing to do with the flow of the song, then took it as a opportunity to dis another artist that I actually think she would have worked with… (Because I could totally hear her and Chris Brown singing HEARTBROKEN together) BUT thats the difference Timbaland and Missy both LOVED her from the moment they met her and always had her best interest in mind and wanted nothing but the best for her. They love her so much that when she died that was when their lives and careers made a drastic change and the music industry as far as hip-hop and R&B shifted. Everything became urgent, quality was diluted and artist after artist popped up like weeds just to be graced with a single ray of her lime light! And there are not many artist that have made that type of impact (Wether you want to admit it or not). As a artist I know what it means to have a muse and losing your muse is like losing the soul of your creative heart and mind. Also, Aaliyah’s fans are grown now, and she also has fans that are even older because remember she was making music and singing classics like a veteran at age 14. Real fans are missing the true essence of R&B and that was something she always provided wether it was on a uptempo beat or something smooth and sexy or even something new and fresh that had older heads taking notice. With this record I don’t mind that they tried to cater to the new wave of young people but at the same token they need to know what innovative hip/hop and R&B is really about instead of this f’ing hoes and B’s and being about everything that is so disrespectful, along with money this, label that. But not to get it misconstrued, it is not that Aaliyah was against profanity or was never apart of a track that used profanity and she even used some curse words herself. But I do believe with the role model and mega star she was molding herself to become she would not have been apart of all of that ignorant language to represent her in a song now. With age comes maturation and she was always that and classy… Besides that Tim and Missy were her true friends and they were not on every track and as the guy above stated it was because of scheduling but you can see the magic that was created between all of them together vs what she did with others. But when she did work with others again it was on some different innovative experimental type production so when you heard it you were like, “Why do I hear cows mooing? IDK but it’s HOT!” . And it really bothers me that her own uncle didn’t notice that or anybody at Blackground and say this song will not be released unless everyone apart of the project comes harder and more original (Where was her representation or family or BROTHER?). Truthfully the only people that should be on the project are people that have worked with her and/or people that truly dig down deep and come up with something unheard of before! I wouldn’t even mind if R. Kelly was on this track. They had a bond and at the end of the day he was the person who taught her how to present a song with that hit maker quality, as he is one himself regardless of his own personal business. People forget too… She might not have had the sales of other top artist but she had fans that loved her songs and didn’t even know who she was. And it makes it even crazier when her success is compared to others considering the level of technology that get’s music around now vs when she was creating music, but I do know people couldn’t wait for an Aaliyah song and video to come out like a Janet and Maddona video and song because she was on that type of level when it came to her level of training and entertaining the fans. She was the most beautiful woman to grace this planet, she had a sound UNLIKE any other, and she danced like nobody around either. She may have been influenced by the greats but like when you look at other artist you see who they are mimicking but when you look at her she mimicked not one artist. And you can now actually see how everyone that is out copied and still is copying her PERIOD… I could go on and on. So Yes Tim and Missy and Ginuwine and Playa and 702 and Jay-Z and Magoo and Diddy and Tank, should be on this album Along with Kanye, the Neptunes, Nas, Monica and Brandy, Usher, DMX, Kim, Mary, Janet, NIN, Sade and a few others she always wanted to work with, but you get my drift! And I like that Drake is apart of the project, I like some of his music and I buy has albums but what he did was just lazy (And any of his real friends, especially ones that were true Aaliyah fans should have told him) especially to be on something people have been anticipating for over 10 years now! He knew when he firs bumped this he should have removed every vocal of his off of it but he was probably that into himself and feeling proud but the true accomplishment would have simply been to get a AALIYAH song released for all who loved her. Now all of this has just made everything about him instead of where the attention should be focused on.

this shit was so fucking wack get drake of
Aaliyah’s music tim should do this shit and i thought 40 would have done better dem where kanye when u need him LOL
August 7th, 2012 at 4:06 am
how did you do this?
August 7th, 2012 at 4:35 am
I’m 19yrs old, didnt really recognize aaliyah when she was alive, but this tune is smooth!! Great production & vocals, kept it simple, the drake verse is really kinda weak.
I think its a great song and i’m happy that they dint put a euro/dance-sound beat behind it (what timbo probably would have done).
Timbo also could have put this typical “undercover / “we need a resolution” beat style behind behind it..but yeah, thats what we already had 11 years ago so why not rather listen to the old tracks if thats what you want? “NIGGAS WANT MY OLD SHIT, BUY MY OLD ALBUM”
August 7th, 2012 at 4:54 am
This beat boring? It’s meant to be simple and subdued. I love the ethereal and haunting atmosphere 40 created for her voice. It highlighted it perfectly. I ain’t mad that he might get the bulk of the album. I just want him to tailor it to Baby Girl so it doesn’t sound like the run of the mill stuff that’s out there. Sure, we would all love Timbaland to have the bulk of the album but lets face it, his beats lately sound like shit. And this is coming from a major Tim fan. Also, there’s some internal beef that’s been going on between Timbaland and Blackground Records so I’m sure that has a huge reason to why there’s little involvement with the album.
And might I add, being an executive producer doesn’t mean that Drake will be behind the boards making beats. He’ll be over seeing the project, with direction, making sure it flows, etc. I trust his ear. Yeah, dude is a super fan of Aaliyah, but he knows good music and I’m glad he’s passionate about her.
August 7th, 2012 at 4:58 am
this a completed+nonlazy track by 40,u just dont like it,ha. Timbo=90s extra layered (over?)produced style. 40 does multilayered+sparse haunting beats like this. u just not a Drake+40 fan. kinda colors all ur posts. fine. dont hate/taint artists work ethic tho, cuz u not a fan. 40’s club bangers be on it & Tims vintage sound! cuz her uncle@Blackground is the decider+payin 4 exactly that.personally i don’t want a re-tread of 90s Aaliyah, cuz i got those CDs already.
August 7th, 2012 at 8:32 am
i like the song with drake. he kinda fell back and let her sing. i just think he did it cause he likes her. he dident rap all over it, it was most of her singing.sounds nyce.as for him getting her tat.after those tats no more throwing bottles..
August 7th, 2012 at 8:39 am
but shit him and chris need to peace it up.
August 7th, 2012 at 9:30 am
Everyone is going crazy over one track. I mean this is the first Aaliyah song in a decade and everyone is already going on a rant. This was obviously an experimental idea and I am sure that this new Aaliyah album is in an experimental state right now. Why not just wait and see what else comes out, it may be hot..but I feel that this track is a cool way to re-introduce her for now. I know the end product is going to be crazy!

August 7th, 2012 at 12:43 pm
Hahaha IDK I like her music so much I couldn’t stop… And for the record I don’t hate the beat nor do I want something that reminds me of her old sound. I feel like when she came out with a song it never had a sound like anything that was out on the radio at the time and this beat simply did and it just put her in the same lane as all of these other artist, when that was never the case when an Aaliyah record hit the radio. So I thought she deserves something new and fresh that is leading into the future of hip-hop and not in the state it is right now. Thats the reason I feel Tim and Missy should be producing is because they have that artistic ear to create sounds that are always 10 steps ahead of the game. Tim has that sound that inspires other producers to switch their game up. And again… I like Drake and as a fashion illustrator/designer and photographer I would expect my work to be honestly critiques just the same. That is the reason we put our work out there… for a reaction. So I do think he should be apart of the project I just didn’t feel the connection. I feel like his verse should have made me believe it was made for that track, like they were in the studio together. Aaliyah was that type of artist that had rappers smitten to the point they switched their rap game up when they jumped on a track with her. Like with Nas in You Won’t See Me Tonight. Everything had a cohesion and intertwining thread that brought all of the elements together. Also when you hear that track on his cd it totally stands out and stands alone like a true Aaliyah song always does.
August 7th, 2012 at 12:46 pm
to be honest the song is not terrible, it’s a good song stop hating
August 7th, 2012 at 1:06 pm
the song is good in my opinion and I don’t think timbaland is that relevant sound wise in this present music climate, I’m sure he can put certain input or ideas for the album but as for 40 and drake doing this song for aaliyah they did a good job, drake gave a nice short solid verse about what’s on his mind and 40 made aaliyah sound so refreshing and new. if you love old aaliyah 90 stuff stuff go listen to it, and i believe aaliyah’s uncle made the right decision giving the project to 40 to make her sound relevant for the people that are not familiar with her music. stop the hating, do your research, get your fact right, and read missinfo’s short articles. And don’t get all emotional over people’s opinions
August 7th, 2012 at 2:09 pm
How the hell can you hear new music from someone that’s dead?Aaliyah was an amazing artist and I was a fan but she didn’t have a huge legacy like alot of people are saying she did.Timbaland and Missy working with her put all of them on the map!No shade on Aaliyah I loved her music had her albums but she is a bit overrated or made out to be larger than life. Sure she inspired alot of artists but she died at the height of her career she didn’t get a chance to reach the level that Beyonce is on but I believe that she would’ve been battling it out with Beyonce had she still been alive. People really need to stop worshiping these artists they are human beings just like all of us not angels gods or goddesses.I will not buy any “new” Aaliyah album people need to accept the fact that she is dead and has been for over a decade and whoever came up with this idea needs to stop trying to profit from Aaliyah let her rest in peace! It disgusts me that people think just because they conjured up a deceased artist’s unreleased/unfinished music throw a new beat on it and its a “tribute”to them when in actuality its a selfish idea of trying to make money, money that Aaliyah nor her immediate family would get Smfh
August 7th, 2012 at 2:12 pm
yep
August 7th, 2012 at 4:28 pm
music comes from pain a type of pain u cant get rid of.so ppl try the best to deal with it by singing rapping makeing beats ect.thats why artist are treated that way by ppl who maybe dident have to go threw the pain.thats what fans are of music.come enter the light jk..
August 7th, 2012 at 4:36 pm
like u can see she been threw something and learned how to transform it into music on how her whole ora is.its like ok i been threw something but imma make other ppl happy anyway.thats something very great. weather u jump around go crazy rapping or singing same shit.an its not their being treated like gods. like if u havent under stood that than wtf lol.. even drake like hes half jewish in 2012 you know how many ppl make fun of them call em names dont act stupid
August 7th, 2012 at 4:58 pm
My theory is that they don’t have enough vocals for full songs–so they are going to have to pad every song with a rapper…and given the current state of rap today, that’s going to end up badly.
August 7th, 2012 at 5:26 pm
I think it’s weird to put out music of people who are not here to give their creative input and control how their music sounds. This is her Name and everything she built before she died on the line to have people mess up. If an album were to be done it should include people who’ve actually spent time in the studio with her enough to know what she would like.
August 7th, 2012 at 5:33 pm
Exactly my thoughts. Aaliyah didn’t even have a lot features on her albums, and that’s the way I like it. If they feel they have to add a rapper to every song, end the project now!!!
August 7th, 2012 at 7:32 pm
Saying Timbaland isn’t relevant makes no sense because the fact is, after Aaliyah passed he “wasn’t relevant” either, then completely revolutionized his sound & the sound of popular music again working with both Justin Timberlake & Nelly Furtado. Who the hell knows what he’s been working on in the lab. At any moment he could drop a track that completely re-defines himself & music yet again. And like someone else said earlier if Aaliyah were alive now she’d be in her 30’s & her sound would’ve matured beyond what’s hot in the streets. She innovated, NEVER FOLLOWED, ever!
August 7th, 2012 at 8:51 pm
LOOOOOOOOL!!!!! Gat damn!
August 8th, 2012 at 12:55 am
Tell it like it is. THANK YOU. Drake is a mediocre rapper if anything and point blank I don’t give a damn how much is records are on the radio today. Soulja boy was hot a one point too. But just because your ass is hot today don’t mean shit to anybody that’s a true fan of Aaliyah. You wanna wine and cry all night long about Rihanna fine, but nobody wanna here that shit about Aaliyah. Let the woman rest in peace. For the sake of God, and for the record that beat by 40 and Drake is not even nor will it ever be worthy along with anything else they cook up. You don’t put pin stripping or none of that pimp my ride BS on a Rolls-Royce or a Maybach like Aaliyah. YOU JUST DON’T!
October 26th, 2013 at 9:23 pm
I was never a huge fan of her’s, but this is a decent track. Shame she’s gone so soon.
