The entertainment world is mourning, as Alan Thicke has passed away at age 69. The legendary actor/songwriter/composer died from a heart attack on Tuesday (Dec. 13), confirmed by both Thicke’s publicist Tracy Mapes and his ex-wife singer/actress Gloria Loring in a Facebook post.

Thicke, best known for his role as Dr. Jason Sever in the ’80s sitcom Growing Pains, suffered the heart attack while playing hockey with his teenage son Brennan on Tuesday afternoon reports TMZ.

Entertainment Tonight reports fire officials received a call at noon local time on Tuesday, regarding a male needing medical assistance at a skating rink in Burbank, CA. Thicke was transported to Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The iconic Canadian-born television actor is survived by his wife Tanya and sons Brennan, Carter and superstar singer Robin Thicke. Speaking with the L.A. Times on Tuesday night, Robin called his father “the greatest man I ever met” and “always a gentleman.” “The good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure,” said Robin. “I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him.”

Robin Thicke’s ex-wife actress/model Paula Patton, Nicki Minaj, Nas, Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Seacrest, Bob Sagat, Olivia Munn, John Legend and Drake are among the list of celebrities who took to social media to pay their respect.
