Last week, Kanye West announced his new sneaker deal with adidas on The Angie Martinez Show on Hot 97. When directly asked if the partnership was official, Ye kinda danced around the question (“Whatever’s official, non-official, official… what y’all gonna see is… I am going to be the Tupac of product,” he said in typical bold fashion). Well, today adidas has officially, officially confirmed the deal by releasing the following statement. In the brief note, the brand crown Yeezus “one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation” and promise more details to follow.
For 2014, we welcome to the adidas family one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation, Kanye West. Well known for breaking boundaries across music, film and design and partnering with our history in street wear culture and leading innovations in sport, we look forward to creating a new chapter. According to the New York Post, Kanye’s deal with adidas is worth $10 million and he’ll earn royalties on every sneaker sold.
