Drake Gets His Dream Duet With Aaliyah on her Single: “Enough Said”
Posted by Miss Info under about miss info , hmmm....? , new music[41] Comments
Given the uproar over the rumors that Drake would be executive-producing a new posthumous Aaliyah album, I can’t wait to hear what everyone says about Drake’s new single appearance on Aaliyah’s first ever posthumous single, “Enough Said.” The Noah “40″ Shebib-produced track opens with unreleased Aaliyah Houghton vocals, like a echo from the great beyond. Even the song’s artwork is a tribute to her first initial (with a bit of NASA influence thrown in)….but notice in the left corner….that Blackground logo? That’s the imprint run by Aaliyah’s uncle and cousin (Barry and Jomo Hankerson). So that’s who’s green lighting this project. I’m interested to hear what Timbaland and Missy will have to say. But aside from the emotions involved, the song is quite nice.
UPDATE: Oh wait, Mr. X just corrected me…this is Aaliyah’s single, featuring Drake. (I amended the copy above) So not only is the posthumous project real, but Drake seems to be establishing his involvement off the jump.
Listen to Aaliyah feat. Drake “Enough Said”…
After the jump
Aaliyah featuring Drake, “Enough Said” (produced by Noah “40″ Shebib)
(The audio here is lovely but very short, so I wonder if there’s a longer version? And I’m assuming Drake will also perform this live tonight at his OVOfest show…that should be amazing. Mr. North will be there with the updates)
(props to Mr X for the audio and artwork)
Here’s the rumor report about Aaliyah’s upcoming project and Drake’s involvement.
Meanwhile, in an older interview with the Breakfast Club, Aaliyah’s lifelong producer and friend Timbaland had this reaction to Drake involvement rumors:
“I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if [Drake] do it, it should be with me and him, and Missy. I don’t know what’s going on. For it to be on his record, that would not be right.“
What do you think about the fact that Aaliyah’s family (Blackground Records) seems to be moving forward without Tim and Missy?
Drake has made no secret of his Aaliyah-obsession, with open lettersopen letters on the anniversary of her death and back tattoos of her face. See the photos here.

He stays on topic by saying what is on in his mind, since Aaliyah is asking the whole song to tell her what is going on so that she can help! And Drake just tells what is on his mind! Hope it clears it up a little!

I still don’t know how I feel about this. I like the song well enough and hearing new Aaliyah is great, but I do think Missy and Timbo should be STRONGLY involved.

Like the vibes.. No hate on Drake but if they do this album without Tim and Missy I think that’s blasphemy..

maybe collab with Tim & Missy on a couple tracks only, as homage to her 90s crew+sound. they played out now. whole points to make Aaliyah relevant to new audiences (Drake’s audience). That’s why her estate allowed Drake and not them. Missy’s comeback bricked+Timbos last joints flopped. that’s why Tim thirstin’ for it so much in the press. 40s tracks are dope+all over the radio.

honestly, I really think that Barry Hankerson had some kind of fall out with Timbaland, and that’s why he didnt bring him on for the project. Which is kind of icky. I don’t think it’s Drake’s call.

wow, tnx,Info. another reason for Timbo to fall back. @30Day: Tim wants the check$ too, and to get hot again. I like Drake & 40′s music. her on this new track is dope. I’m from the 90s and fuck with Timbaland & Missy too.i dust off those Aaliyah tapes to hear all them. but Missy & Tim’s latest attempts just hurts me ears now. plus Tim in the press talkin about ‘i was in love with Aaliyah’ decades later all after the fact? just think his media moves lately are suspect.

Yeh I’m pretty sure its not Drake’s call..
@manistiles so the point is to make Aaliyah relevant to new audiences? U mean the point is to pimp out her music to the new generation?
You see this is the problem with posthumous albums being executed by family members who just want a check.
Who is there to say Aaliyah would have wanted to work with half these people? We have seen a bunch of posthumous work just shit on artists careers… Drake tattoo’s her face on his back, sang over some of her shit and has ballads dedicated to her and now he is the guy for the job?
Hold on wait… Did her go-to producers and writers die? Nooooo… This is really just a bunch of horse shit and I am sick of people taking advantage of the dead and/or leveraging their star power for a check for themselves.
At least if Timbo and Missy were involved they would be doing it for the art and they would try their hardest to respect what they believe Aaliyah’s wishes would be..
Just because Drake has probably spent more time jerking off over Aaliyah than anybody else doesn’t make him and his producer the right fit for the job.
Get all 4 of them in there and we would probably see some magic… Maybe Drake and 40 could learn a thing or two about making real hits instead of this fast food shit we gt now a days.

I actually hate this. I hate the boring, leftover drums from Marvin’s Room, hate that he’s dissing people who sell less than him but oh, it’s supposed to be an Aaliyah track? Really? This is a DRAKE TRACK, through and through.
The ego is out of control with this dude. Eff Drake for this whole project tbh!

It really does sound way more like a Drake track than an Aaliyah song… Infact it kinda just sounds like a remix 40 and Drake put together and threw that verse on there to get Drake on a song with Aaliyah.
The more I listen to it the more it doesn’t sound like a song but just a remix.

Love it!! I think he could have toned it down and done a rhyme with a smoother delivery though.. Perhaps one more and thats it because it would be doing too much without Tim and Missy…

It sounds refreshing to hear Aaliyah on a modern sounding beat. I’m actually glad Drake and OVO are producing her stuff, cause Drake always got hot beats

@ ppl saying Timbo n Missy should b envolved … now i’ll start by saying i mite b rong and have no facts but, these past years i dont remember Timbo or Missy showing any interest in doing anything Aaliyah related … they’v spent thier time pushing the Nelly furtados, Yazmine Sullivans and even trying to turn Cassie into the new Aaliyah (Cassies “unofficial Girl” song was 10times more Aaliyah than this)… n now that sum1 is showing interest and moving forward with a Aaliyah project now they wana stand up and wave their hands from the back of the classroom along with the irritating student (Drake) who brings the teachers cookies, sits in the front and cares ??!.
back 2the song, 4me it doesnt work … like Tony Yayo mocked Fat Joe “TAKE OF THAT GRILL, ITS NOT A PHANTOM ITS A HEMI (300C).
U cant put a Rolls Royce grill (Aaliyah) on a 300 hemi C (Drake n 40) and convince ppl its a Rolls Royce (Aaliyah).

hmm. I dont think that not wanting to put out Aaliyah’s unreleased audio or putting out Aaliyah duets or whatever is a measure of how much Timbaland and Missy love and miss their friend.
In fact, it might actually be a sign that they really care.

ya i agree with you i see what you mean … ppl celebrate and remember ppls lives and legacies in diffrent ways, some like to leave them as they r and as they remember them and others chose to keep those legacies alive.
I know it mite be difficult 4u (as a celeb and media source) as u mite have 2play the middle ground and not take sides … but if u can, please give us your honest opinion of what you think bout the song and the issues surrounding it

you that African dude rite ? u posted that brilliant post on kanyes cover. i like yo posts they very intelligent and i like how u always have examples.
ppl like to post hate and praise but never have examples to back them.
i was not aware of the Cassie song you made an example with but when i youtubed it i saw what u ment, even the vid is a Aaliyah rip Cassie dressd in just underwear and a jacket with her hair blowing and a clear background.
i get what u mean about timberland and missy but i still think out of respect that Drake n co should still involve or atleast consult with timberland and Missy out of respect 4 ppl who were close 2her and know Aaliyah best.
lol @ the grill comparison nicely done even tho some wont get it.
and by the way Tony Yayo is wack

@ Siy@ and The French Connection.
That Cassie song was produced by Timberland so u can also look at that as Timberland celebrating Aaliyah thru that.
the sad truth is if Tim & Missy headlined an Aaliyah project ppl would hate on it calling them washed up. nowadays its all about the artist involved rather than the quality of music if u get what I mean.
Im just abit uneasy with this, I dont no if i buy this Drakes love 4 Aaliyah thing and the letters he writes. how can u love sum1 u’ve never met so much, sum1 who when at her prime u were only +- 10 years old

Drale is trash, I am discusted with what he is tryn to do. Realy bro, you aint even about that life you rap about to male money now you are sceemin to make money off Aaliyah. How dare you. I am aginst him producing or being anywhere near invovled with anything Aaliyah. I have a fan Of Aaliyahs music forever and he is just destoying what we have left about Aaliyah. She would of never been a song with Drake nor with an artist rapping about what he was rapping. not a good move brotha.

Because it was “unreleased” likely there is no video of Aaliyah singing it – thus no chance of using hologram technology for a live show – maybe something to think about for other musicians thinking of collaborating with the dearly departed?

I can’t lie when I first heard the song. I thought it was ok. After reading the comments and taking another listen I’m un easy as well. First off pay homage. Missy and timbaland need to be involved. A word from dame would be koo. Relevance should not matter. At all. It’s a legend who will forever be missed. Anyone and everyone should be involved if they cared and helped her career. Drizzys verse was very out of place. Just not the route he should have taken and I’m a fan. And the reality is Aaliyah today over that 40 beat would be a hit and heard on every radio station so you can’t discredit. Drake isn’t dumb. It’s obvious this might not be his call who can have involvement and who can’t. (if timbaland and missy aren’t involved.

My issue aside from Drake is 40′s production. He doesn’t let the rhythm drive a track and doesn’t create memorable melodies. His style is based on musical textures and mellow soundscapes. It’s great for an artist like Drake to rap over. But it doesn’t compliment Aaliyah like a Timbo track or (gasp) even old R Kelly stuff. You can bang on a table the beat to “Are you that somebody” or whistle “Try again” and people know it straight away. This however…
It’s great to hear Aaliyah again but not like this. RIP.

ok, so ima huge aaliyah fan myself, shes my fav, n i understand drakes obsession BUT however you all have made a grand point here…why did he have to go so hard on this track, his tone just didnt match hers, this def sounds like alotta drake…from the structure, to the echoes, timing all that, i just know if this was an AALIYAH single it would have been much better, its not a terrible record at all, im soooo happy to hear her voice again, but i think it could of been executed differently, and probably much better if missy and tim had anything to do with it, what drake doesnt realize is aaliyah had a CHEMISTRY with missy and tim, even r kelly back in the day, you cant really build a chemistry with someone who cant even give their input. the best thing he couldve did was try to build this track with the ppl she had the most chemistry with….it just makes sense…i feel like this track was rushed or some shit, idk…but rest in peace baby girl, hope this aint in vain. xoxo

TBH i think that blackground think that their cheque would be alot smaller if Tim n Missy were involved, wheras they knew that Drake with his stanimosity would do it for free maybe? i reckon Missy and Timbo would be involved without any money coming there way just to ensure that baby girls legacy isn’t tainted.

people need to stop hating on drake, it’s just too much just cause this young man is successful and relevant, in fact people should worry about their own life’s instead of the drake bashing all day long on all hip hop website. personally I think the song is good and the drake verse was solid as usual, the hook by aaliyah says “say you got a lot on your mind” and drake said what’s on his mind. use your brain to analyse the song instead of allowing all these media and blogs opinions get you emotional for no reason.
