New York-born, Los Angeles-based producer A.CHAL emerged as one of the Internet’s most intriguing, not to mention elusive, bass music talents last year. He released a handful of original instrumentals, as well as wholly unique remixes of The Throne’s “H.A.M.,” Biggie’s “Juicy” and Drake’s “Cameras,” capturing the intrigue of listeners while carefully curating a consistent catalog. A little over a year since his first coverage on major music blogs, we still don’t know an awful lot about A.CHAL, real name Alejandro Chal, but we do know that his music is pretty damn good.
His latest offering, “On N On,” is a minimalistic yet mezmerizing number, fit for any poignant movie scene. A.CHAL himself raps in a deliberately lackadaisical flow, adding potency to the track’s drugged-out vibe, while guest vocalist Alex Burnett juxtaposes the vibe with a powerful, yawning hook. If you’re feeling this, look for A.CHAL’s debut EP, BALLROOM RIOTS, dropping Feb. 19 on BallroomRiots.com.
