50 Fest Brings NYC Together, “They say New York City, we don’t actually get along, that’s not true.”
Posted by Mikey Fresh under concerts , videos[51] Comments
Mikey: After 50’s drama free “50 Fest” on Saturday, he spoke to MTV News with the night’s participating performers by his side on the positivity and unity for NYC Hip Hop that was brought on by the concert.
“I wanted to make a festival that didn’t necessarily have to have an artist [who has a] single in rotation at the time,” 50 explained to MTV News at the show. “That doesn’t directly reflect good hip-hop. It reflects marketing dollars spent by the major corporations, the companies. Tonight we have everybody that means something to us musically in one spot. When I bring Cory Gunz, Trav, Maino …”
“Check this out, this is impressive: Now we got Jadakiss out here. This is real! Tell me anywhere else you can go where you can see everybody. It represents different portions of hip-hop. You got the Lox, the new young gunners Cory Gunz, Trav, Maino. Jimmy [Jones] and Juelz [Santana] coming. They say New York City, we don’t actually get along, that’s not true. We could work together and get more money than we can get apart, and they gonna see us do it in the future.”
“We mixed it up,” Fif said of the set. “We made a set that got all of us rocking. They get to see it properly, so they get to see all of us rocking at different points in the actual sets, not just who got positioned. You know how sometimes you go to the tour and some people’s music is louder than others? They fix it. As long as [the audience] leaves saying that everybody that came out to the festival had a good time, it’s mission accomplished.” via – MTV News

So is 50 REALLY trying to unite NY or is he just realizing that his Beef = Success formula isn’t working anymore?

I think you hit the nail on the head. The beef formula isn’t working anymore becuase the people see right through that now. Besides think about it like this NY wasn’t feeling 50 and G-Unit as much as they did before so what better way to get the home town back on your side but to put a concert together with Hot NY acts… Oh and don’t forget he does have an album coming out soon. Its a win win for everyone involved. Man this man (or whoever is the brains behind the 50 cent brand) is a smart person.

Damned if you do damned if you don’t. 50 does something good = ulterior motive. 50 does something bad = he’s a hater.
Gift and the curse I suppose.

Co-sign!!!
What does a brotha or a sista got to do to get props & respect from “our” community??? (I said “our” like that because sometimes I’m not so sure)
Just ride with it & forget about the conspiracies. Nobody beefed, no fights, no B.S. just Hip Hop. All that was needed. Sounds like somebody was there standing in the corner with they arms tightly folded talkin’ about “F*ck dat ni66a.” Some people stay miserable. LOL like a mofo!

I still cringe whenever I see 50 and DBlock hang together. Ugh.
But yeah, I would have no problem if New York became the new Atlanta of a few years ago. 50 could be the real leader of New York gangster rap.

The real beauty is how many beefs got squashed under the bright lights…D-Block v. G-Unit, 50 v. Kiss, G-Unit v. Dipset, G-Unit v. Joe Budden. People that don’t like each other still coming out and drama free…Rae v. Joe Budden. New cats getting shine…Maino, Red Cafe, Cudi, Wale, Corey, Slaughterhouse. I LOVE IT!!!!

True…don’t forget Papoose v. Uncle Murda. That one was about to get real for a minute but there pics of them chillin’ on the boat ride over.
Still waitin’ to see if Fif & Cam settle their beef. But it was definitely a good look for Hip Hop…specifically NYC.
Now the Cam v. Jimmy & Juelz drama…that’s another story.
I was there…and it was a lot of fun and bugged out to see it all happen.
The crowd was a bit too NY tho…the ol’ “Too cool to act like a fan” steez.
Hopefully we’ll see some bangin’ collabos

I never ever ever ever thought we’d see that day where Sheek louych daps up 50. Never. With that being said, its a good look and it would take someone like 50 to do this being that he has the most clout (other than Hov but he too Hollywood for this). I just wish Cam was a part of this. Maybe Kiss can get that together.

OH BOY!!!!! I got my 1st Anon commenter named after me.
Ok seriously,>:(
1st off I’m the first person to welcome the unification of the NY hip hop scene. If you gonna name ya self after me then check my posts through the site. I’m very even. But the fact is this. It was a nice warm fuzzy moment in hip hop. But if it doesn’t spawn any further music/collaboartions then it was just that. Secondly, for anyone to not even consider the possibility of 50 seeing a personal benefit to “squashing” beefs now is delusional.
Once again you tell me a 50 cent and D-Block project is coming from this then I’ll be 1st in line to cop it.I’m from the 914 with ’nuff people in Yonkers and we all knew the 50 beefs were counter productive to NY hip hop.
I hope for the best but prepare for the worst.Tigers changing stripes is hard to have faith in.
Thanks again.

First of all I don’t know, you don’t know me..what difference does it make if I state my overall arguement in the ‘name’ section..its my opinion.
Second of all even if nothing at all comes out of the concert but pictures and statements to MTV..what does it matter?
We can all find solace in knowing that there isn’t a issue between those crews anymore which is productive.
Lastly, 50 wasn’t the only person to have beef in NYC, Jay had alot of beef also and people appaulded when he squashed it with Nas despite everything said on wax and even the things he did off wax (that Carmen shit was unforgivable in my eyes). I doubt Fif really views the concert as something to sell his album because he’s not gaining any new fans off of this, he already knows how to win them over…with a quality album.

d same rappers 50 rubbished on his way up are the same niggas he is seeing on his way down.Dnt let d hype get into ur eyes n ur ear drum, its all gimmicks by 50 since d beef gimmick dont work again, why dnt we try d peace/unity gimmick.

Why do you have to try and find something negative in this. I mean what was in the past is in the past. I mean remeber Jay-Z and Nas were going at each other and that almost was personal and yet they sat down like men and moved on past it. How do you ever expect people to come together when people like you try and point out the bad of the past. Come on man!

Nigga didn’t 50 go at anybody who was rappin with rule on a song, that’s why he went at jada and joe. So how come he don’t fuck with joe then? Cause he’s a fake and he saw that he couldn’t win every battle so he had to become friends with certain people. Think about it, he wasn’t fucking with nobody in ny for a minute except busta, then jada roasted him. He won’t fuck with nas or joe, burry them beefs that are not personal, then I’ll believe he’s bringing ny together for the better and not just for whatever else.

People being negative because they don’t know or don’t WANT to know how to sit down like men & resolve a situation. That’s why there’s so many beefs & shootings in the ‘hood over nothing.

I see people fall for the hype without the substance. How many NY based shows has Jay-Z done? And he always brings out artist from NY and more.MSG was a stunt? Yeah cuz no one knew BP3 was coming out.And I guess when he does Summer Jam and Power House thats a gimmick for rich white folk too? Please, ALL those concerts are hood parties try again.
So let me also get this straight? 50 throws a 1 time event and that’s more then Jay has done for NY? Look beyond the smoke and mirrors and answer this.If we’re talking about supporting other artists, how many up and comers or local artists has 50 put on his albums? D Block, nope but they’ve been supported by Hov since the 90’s. Wait 50 did have J-Hood pop up in the Bx to antagonize D Block while Remy was there to urk Fat Joe.A lot of NY love huh? Even Dip Set as much as they won’t admit it made good money and broadened their audience with Jay and Rocafella.
I give 50 credit cause he’s talking a great game and I genuinely hope its for real. But to hop on the anti-jay-z bandwagon and act like he hasn’t supported NY is ignorant.

You know what would have been the cherry on top would have been if Cam would have came out! i swear the island would have went crazy. I have a feeling 50 did reach out to Cam’s camp and see if that could have happen. I mean think about it could it be that 50 cent would go down as the person that put NY artist back together and start the NY movement again!!! who else in Hip Hop could/would do that??

Look man I ain’t even gonna got out on a lim and say he wouldve been more convincing if he done it with rule. But at least nas or fat joe. Just the other day he was dissing fat joe. He’s doing this with ny cats that he been fucking with. Now he got jada to be a part of his games. This would only be good for hip hop if nas or fat joe was there. Other than that it’s a joke.

First off why’s this NOT “good for Hip-Hop”?
Second, you can say what you like about Jay-Z and 50. The official difference is he’s uniting NY Hip Hop. Something Jay-Z is NOT concerned with.
I’ll let everyone else do the over analysis about the reasons why.
While the “ambassador of Hip Hop” is doing his interviews (and doing nothing for the NY seen after his self promoting is over) 50 is keeping his ear to the streets.
The streets. Remember that? Where Hip Hop came from.

The illest part about all the comments is that everyone is right. The concert is just as motivated by self-interest as it is a desire for unity among New York rappers. People like 50 and Jay-Z have mastered the art of using a single event to achieve multiple objectives. These guys are really living by books like “48 Laws of Power” and “The Art of War.”

50 is just using these guys to make good in the rap game to just sell records… he should have brought jarule and fat joe… But those are real beefs well not really fat joe but ja…..
Why would JAY EVEN make a concert like this. the majority of these dudes stay talking greasy about hov. And that I declare war thing wasn’t a hoax. That shIT was a real moment.. It wasn’t like hov had to pay nas to make good. that shit came from both of them…
You really think 50 could have done such a show without promising high security and big checks. I DOUBT IT….
To better explain it Jay would ask these dudes to be a part of a jay concert and they will be there early with no monies being offered. It’s just a bigger venue. THose 50 roosevelt island tickets where on sell for a while so it shows his star power really is not what people perceive it to be….
