It’s been nine years since the release of 50 Cent’s stellar Get Rich Or Die Tryin album. Friday night, 50 and G-Unit celebrated the album headlining Shady 2.0′s showcase at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The 60-minute show featured performances of a majority of cuts from the 2003 LP including “Many Men,” “In Da Club,” “Heat,” “Back Down,” “If I Can’t,” and more. The big surprise of the evening came from Eminem, who joined the stage to perform “Patiently Waiting” and followed that up returning later for a medley of “Til I Collapse,” “8 Mile,” and “Crack A Bottle.” A great night for this year’s festival.

It’s blasphmous to even mention 50 in the same commentary as Jay-Z! 50 has to do a concert with the music from his first album because that’s the only good music he made, you can’t even compare his catalog and live performance with Jay, it’s like a grown man vs a little boy! I know 50 is rich and a successful buisness man, and congrats to him for that, I’m not hating (that’s what it is when you disagree or think someone is wack these days), but since the first album the music has sucked and he’s no longer relevant and no where near Jay’s level!

@ JAY WOW this is pure HATE if i’ve ever seen it. People alway make ref to is first album and i always have to ask if they listen to the second (Massacre). IMO i think that album is a really good album if not close to a classic. I think one of 50 biggest problem is he gives away a lot of good music for free that he should save for an album. I think he’s probably the only Hip hop artist that can perform only mix tape material and it would be a great show. Tell me one record that 50 has ever been on with anyone of the so call greats and he got embarrassed, if anything he always show is a$$ and show how good he really is. This guy don’t get credit for anything. Jay-z is a great artist but what can you point to to say he changed the way the hip hop industry is run. 50 is reponsible for the mix tape revolution and how a lot of these new artists are even being discovered. Just give the man some credit, if you don’t like him as a person that’s fine but don’t take it out on what he as done and is music. I think Ross if a fake but i can’t deny is music, That’s a female trait…

In all fairness, I agree somewhat with both of you. But “Get rich or die trying” was the concert headlines because it was set up through fuse who if you noticed have been playing get rich or die trying movie all week. The venue was set to perform the entire album to promote the brand (not because the relevance of the song or lyrical capabilities). He didn’t get the reception he thought he would not because his new material is wack, but because it was poorly executed. I can tell he didn’t prepare like he would for a tour and to be honest Jay-z’s performance was lack luster as well(besides his emotional glory moment).
The only performances that had some form of energy and excitement were slaughter house’ and Theophilus london sets. Remember the crowd feeds off the performer’s energy. You could never predicate how a crowd will react but you should always come with it, what 50 said is exactly how he performed “I already got the money and what i came for;Don”t act like it didn’t sell 13 million records” The crowd already knew that but he wasn’t well prepared and his energy was half azzed..so was Jay-z’s.

When you line up THE CLASSIC TRACKS 50 HAVE MADE, the amount of music is crazy…. Massacre is damn near classic, GRODT is Classic, he has about 5 Classic mixtapes and a shit load of classic verses… Which is a lot for a nigga who cant rap..
When you say you cant compare 50 to Jazzy thats right you cant because 50′s the only other rapper to sell more than 5mill records in the past 10yrs not named eminem and not using other peoples verses or lines.. He’s been stealing hot lines and using them in his songs since his first album.. Thats why Nas is the GOAT maybe next to LL and Kane because illmatic influenced Ready to Die and everything Jazzy did.. THAT NIGGA IS A SUCKA!!!
What it took him 20yrs to do 50 did in 5…He’s an old dickriden ass fraud..

Seems 1/2 of them had no clue as to the material 50 was performing.

what a crazy night. 50 and Em killed it. The crowd really doesn’t get fired up a lot at these shows I’m seeing. Even when Em came out it seemed pretty modest. Maybe it sounded different being there live. Instead of watching at home. BTW Duke losing in the first round made this an even better night.

Love 50 but that was a poorly executed show, no banks songs, or yeyo songs, or mixing the new artist well with both of them. He didn’t prepare well (first time I’ve seen a 50 show so poor). It was so bad he mistakenly adlib out loud”get em buck” on one of his songs and missed his cues and timing on two other songs lol Let’s you know even at 50 level you should take rehersal and preparation to a show seriously.Eminem saved 50′s set with energy. (and I think even 50 realized it, when he couldnt feed off the crowd’s energy and became visibly upset)

If it was going to be an hour of full songs they should have done 3 yayo songs 5 Banks songs 4 group songs off the G-Unit album and TOS A FEW mxixtape cuts the very best of GRODT and then those few tracks with EM…I dont think 50′s irreevant but I do think that he’s not in tune with what certain moments require.. He just might be a little out of touch..
Right songs, wrong delivery, right stage wrong presence/song…

50 is irrelevant. He stopped making hot music 6 years ago. Should’ve held on to Olivia.
