Prodigy was a tough crowd to please, so if the H.N.I.C. says you’re good, then you’re good. Shortly before his untimely passing last year, Albert Johnson blessed Long Beach’s A$ton Matthews with a verse for his new song “1 Minute to Pray.” The grimy, Jay Curry-produced collaboration is the latest preview of Matthews’ upcoming album Chapovelli.

“Working with P had to be one of the top 5 greatest moments of my career so far,” Matthews tells Billboard. “Mobb Deep as a group had that raw, ‘We don’t give a fuck,’ spit-in-your-face vibe every record, and I feel like I’ve incorporated so much of that attitude into my own music. For me, I’m still working my way up in this rap shit, so for him to bless me with this verse is something legendary. I’m forever grateful for what he did for this game, and the influence he gave me, as well as the rest of the world.”

The track is our first taste of Onyx’s upcoming album, Black Rock, out February 16. “The inspiration for the album came from the song ‘Judgement Night‘ we did for the Judgment Night movie soundtrack, hip-hop meets rock and roll!” Fredro tells XXL. “People can expect boom-bap mixed with guitars, but it’s what people wont expect that makes this album dope!”
