February 2014

According to Deadline, Johnny Dep and Warner Bros have signed on to bring another White Bulger movie to the big screen. Dep will play the Mobster in the he Scott Cooper-directed crime drama, Black Mass. Sources also say Joel Edgerton will play the disgraced FBI agent, John Connolly, who helped Bulger allude the feds for so many years.

The real Whitey Bulger was finally captured back in 2011.

Warner Bros will co-finance the film with Cross Creek Pictures. Out of the equation is Exclusive Media, which was selling foreign territories at Berlin, but I’m told isn’t in the mix now after the company imploded with the impending exits of chiefs Nigel Sinclair and Guy East, and Warner Bros signed on for the whole world. I’m told that production will begin in eight weeks in Boston, and that Warner Bros is eyeing an October 2015 release slot.

Looking to gain the support of the youngsters, Divergent creators have a hip-hop heavy soundtrack lined up for the movie. It’s set to hit retailers on March 11 and will feature new music from Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper, and A$AP Rocky. Today, Complex got their hands on the Rocky collaboration with French producer Gesaffelstein. It’s a spacey number with A$AP using a tongue twisting flow.

Fallon is really on a roll right now. After taking over Leno’s spot on The Tonight Show, Jimmy has been firing off left and right with the killer skits. He won us over for the millionth time with his history of rap segment with Justin Timberlake, but last night it was all about the laughs as LeBron rolled into town. Remaking Kurtis Blow’s classic basketball ode, Fallon flipped it into a terribly cheesy 80s rap video. Only, he references a game every blogger is very familiar with. Thankfully, BronBron stayed off the mic.

It’s been three years since Kanye West famously debuted G.O.O.D. Fridays, a weekly music series that brought us bangers like “Christian Dior Denim Flow,” “Lord Lord Lord” and “Don’t Stop” in the lead up to his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy LP. According to G.O.O.D. Music member CyHi The Prynce, the crew are looking to bring it back this year. At least he’ll make sure they do. Here’s what he told MTV in a recent interview:

I’M doing it. I’M making sure it’s coming back. See now, he’s my partner long enough to where I can say, “Ye, we doing this, we doing this and we doing this.” I wanna motivate him to do that too, because Ye got a lot of stuff that I’m like, “Yo, no one’s ever gonna get to hear this Ye!” I hear the fans, I understand what they want from the G.O.O.D. Music family. I talked to Sean, I talked to Pusha to kinda get them to do it too, because I like them guys and lyricists and artists, and I wanna hear more from them, too.

Despite his optimism, let’s not forget this is the same guy that repeatedly said the Cruel Winter album would drop last year. But hey, a man can hope, can’t he?
